Rating: Summary: Sure it was disturbing - but it was very good! Review: First of all, if you hate can't bear disturbing movies, don't see this one. For the rest of you, I recommend this chillingly captivating tale of a high school student's fascination with the Holocaust. Sure, a few of the choices that Brad Renfro's character makes are not the most typical of a student with his abilities, but his unique character must be considered. Ian McKellan's performance as a retired Nazi is definitely the best aspect of this movie. One minus of this movie was too much of the psychological "I know this about you, so you better do that" without enough delivery. On the other hand, a strong plus of the film is that it was just as truthful and engrossing as Schindler's List in its words and visuals despcribing the treatment of Jews during the Holocaust. It provided me with the same type of feelings that I had while watching Shindler's list. Altogether, this film is definitely worth seeing if you can stomach the content.
Rating: Summary: Incredible! Review: This is the best thriller since The Silence of the Lambs. Everything about it is great. Very interesting premise, good dialogue, and great performances from Ian McKellan and Brad Renfro. Bryan Singer, however, deserves the most credit for truly demonstrating the extremity of human evil. His direction fully flushes out the atrocity of the Holocaust as well as the shocking nature of the two leads' behavior after meeting. This is a very deserving follow-up to The Usual Suspects.
Rating: Summary: No where near as good as King's story. Review: I read King's novella "Apt Pupil" about 5 years ago, and I thought it was the best King writing I had ever read up to that point. When I heard about the movie I was very anxious to see it. I was very dissapointed. This movie does a great job of following the storyline until about halfway through the movie, then they just left out too much stuff for me. The ending was no where near right, It is rare to see a movie contradict a book this badly.
Rating: Summary: Very Good Movie Review: I rented it and really enjoyed it mainly because of the performance From Ian McKellen was excellent
Rating: Summary: This movie was incredible! Review: In this adaptation of Stephen King's novella - the shocking truth of pure evil is revealed in a very clever way. Through absolutely brilliant acting and great direction by Bryan Singer - I loved this movie and deeply enjoyed it. It can be very disturbing at times, so brace yourself, but if you want to see a great fim - rent or buy this today! Brad Renfro and Ian McKlennan are unbelievably talented.
Rating: Summary: cant identify with characters Review: Usually when i watch a movie where the protagonist turns to his dark side there is some kind of reason that you can understand for this. In Apt Pupil you never understand why the main character Tod Bodine doesn't turn the old nazi in. Because he Wanted to know what it was realy like? give me a break! Ask a holocaust survivor. the premise is just ridiculous. Any american boy, discounting skin heads, that discoverd a nazi war criminal woulde much more likely turn him in and become a hero not blackmail him for some horror stories.
Rating: Summary: This movie is a fine work. Review: Apt Pupil deals with very serious subject matter. The messages it sends about the Holocaust are secondary to the thesis of the movie. This being that as a student, who is willing to do anything to succeed, drastic measures may be taken, and in reality often are. The movie, however, does have many emotional scenes in which the Holocaust is portrayed and the suffering which the Jewish people endured is enacted.
Rating: Summary: This movie blew me away Review: This was amazing, It shows you that you cant forget the past. It was fabulously filmed and deffinetly deserves four stars!!!
Rating: Summary: AWESOME! Review: Ian Mckellan and Brad Renfro are wonderful in this movie. Once again, they prove that they are worthy of our respect!
Rating: Summary: It was... odd. Review: I read Stephen King's story in his book Differant Seasons, and it ran chills up my spine. Like always, the movie was not as good as the short story.
