Summary: Tom Hanks got robbed!
Review: This was a total awesome movie.. if I could give it more than 5 stars, I would! Hanks has really outdone himself in this movie, I saw it 3 times in the theatre and cannot wait to receive my dvd to watch it again and again. Tyler Hoechlin was totally awesome too (the young girls loved him)! Tom Hanks received no nominations for an oscar? Boy did he get robbed![.]Nice guys truly do finish last, is the appropriate phrase for this guy.

Summary: A mediocre and somewhat boring movie
Review: Simple script and plot. Don't even know why Paul Newman would have been nominated for an Oscard. This movie is trying too hard to get the noir genre but falls short almost every minute. It also tries very hard to look deep but simply not deep enough to render any deep feeling for the audience. Just another movie like Godfather or Soprano, all the gangsters could only kill among themselves by all the excuses in the underworld such as betrayals, personal grudges, turf disputes. Tom Hanks performed a just so-so role in this movie simply by the interpretation that he got to be a husband, father and a mob killing machine. So what else is new?

Summary: Now thats what I call perfaction!!
Review: To be honest i wasnt dying to watch (ROAD TO PERDITION), actually i did miss it in the theartical release. But after i heard how good it is i decided to add it to my DVD library. after i finished it i dcouldnt stop my hands from clapping and my mouth from saying PERFECT! Great perfomnances, a stunning direction, gorgeous music, a fine screenplay, and real entertainment! When you find this factors in a movie you can only say its a perfect one. The only problem is the DVD edition, the only intresting feature is the deleated scenes. No making of, interviews, nor theartical trailer although these stuff are allready available. Dreamworks home entertainment needs to improve it's movies' features. Hollywood ending is nearly featurless, American beauty is well featured, but not enough for such a classic, at least it disserved a 2-disc edition. the same goes with road to perdition

Summary: BORING MOVIE
Review: This is a very bad movie. I can't seem to figure out whether the script or the directing is what lacks but it's defintely a bad melodramatic movie. The cinematography is good, and of course so is Tom Hanks but there's not much to it really. I personally found it very boring.

Summary: Will you love it? That depends.......
Review: This film is very strong. It understandably has many flaws (this only the second film from director Sam Mendes.) But whether or not you will find any joy in this artistic gangster film depends on what kind of gangland films you are accustomed to.

Basically, modern gangster films break down into two groups. You've got your Scorsese-ites and your Coppola-ites.

Your basic Martin Scorsese fan will love movies like "Goodfellas", "Casino", "Mean Streets." They will watch and enjoy films like "Donnie Brasco," "Heat," and "Training Day." Scorsese-ites will watch the Sopranos religiously and enjoy TV series such as "The Shield" and "Kingpin." Scorsese-ites love the gritty, hard boiled reality of gang life. A life, which ultimately has tragic consequences for the film's characters.

A Francis Ford Coppola fan will, on the other hand, be a fan of films like "The Godfather" and it's sequels. A Coppola-ite enjoys films like "Scarface" and older films of the Noir genre such as "The Big Sleep," "Public Enemy," "The Maltese Falcon," "Key Largo," and other Bogart efforts. The Coppola fan enjoys the myth of the gangster. The unrealistic and glamorous depiction of gang life seen in the Godfather trilogy. These films are 'tone poems,' and "Road to Perdition" belongs in this category.

"Road to Perdition" is an art film, no doubt about it. The storytelling is surrealistic and quite removed from reality, as told through a child's eyes. It's really quite cerebral, and will give gritty, hard-boiled reality fans a disappointing display. Remember, it is a visual poem, not a historical document.

Bottom Line: Gangster fanatics will love it or hate it, depending on how much 'art' they want in their movies.

Summary: Anemic epic fails to connect
Review: Roger Ebert correctly evaluated RTP as a type of Greek tragedy--its predictability--indeed inevitability--saps the film's life away. While a visual feast, RTP gained no real momentum for me because I could foresee most of the significant details ahead, which led to the second problem of my not caring much about such events when they transpired--why?

Like another reviewer, I never bought into Hanks as a cold-blooded hitman. I felt as if he enacted a script, rather than inhabited a real character. Part of my problem is understanding what led him and his wife to accept this type of lifestyle--we receive no background to support our need to believe in Hanks' performance, which in turn further drains the film's credibility and emotional impact.

Is this a bad film? No, it has many good offerings, including Jude Law's own hitman creation. Nevertheless, I do not plan to see it again, as I never managed to care for the films' protagonists or even truly believe they were more than parts either miscast or underwritten.

Many will enjoy and celebrate RTP. I will anticipate more successful projects from all involved.

Summary: Robbed by the Oscars - It was the best film of 2002!
Review: The Motion Picture Academy has largely passed over the most perfect film of 2002, "Road to Perdition," omitting it from Best Picture and Best Director consideration. Paul Newman and the cinematographer were nominated and there are nominations for Art Direction, Sound and Sound Editing, but Sam Mendes is out of the running, along with Jude Law whose eccentric, sinister hit man was a virtuoso turn. It looks as though this year it's the Oscars that are headed for perdition.

Hanks as an assassin? Come on.

And it dragged on for what seemed forever.

If you enjoy "mafia" type films, this one falls into that category but it will leave you bored throughout.

Summary: Road To Oscar ?? Probably Not.......
Review: Tom Hanks plays a hit man role (Michael Sullivan) who works for Paul Newman (John Rooney) as his right-hand man. Tom has to make his choice between family and his crime job.

Tom Hanks acting would not disappoint you, but I wouldn't say this is his best or super performance. In reverse, I found him to be acting too much in this movie. There are many better choices this year for the Oscar Best Actor nomination. I love Tom Hanks, but forget about him this year. I think he needs some new stimulus after doing Cast Away.

Pace is slow for Sam Mendes' (American Beauty) directing. Cinematography is Hollywood A class standar, but I think this is basic.

I would give an overall B rating.

Summary: Another great one from Tom Hanks
Review: Tom Hanks must have had his genes genetically altered to win Oscars. It seems like every film he comes out with is a hit. This is the most recent of his conquered endeavors. Also starring Paul Newman and Jude Law; each plays their role to perfection. This triangle of actors just works. The costumes and scenery are also great elements that added to this film's greatness. It really makes the audience believe that they were really in the 1920's. Every element that contributes to the success of a film was exceptional. This movie gets five out of five stars.
