Summary: Might really come true?
Review: I first saw this movie many years ago. I thought it was a great story similar to 'A Brave New World" and "1984". After the Impeachment vote it looks like it may really be coming true. This movie may have been made in 1990 but it pertains well to 1998. I hope people will watch this movie again before the next election. "The Handmaid's Tale" shows how dangerous it could be to mix religon and politics in the USA.

Summary: EXCELLENT FILM!
Review: I first saw this movie on cable because I'm a big fan of actress Traci Lin, so I taped this movie on that basis first... Once I watched it, I instantly fell in love with this film. It's really an amazing film. Very interesting and scary to think what if this actually happened in today's society. It's fascinating to think about. I'm currently reading the book and they both are excellent. Natasha Richardson is just wonderful, I'm forever a fan of her work after this role, Elizabeth MaGovern is classic, these two characters made me feel something, and I love when a movie effects me in that way.

A real recommendation. I think children in schools should be watching this film.

Summary: An absolute insult to such a thorough and compelling book
Review: I have recently studied this book in my AS year at college and thoroughly enjoyed it. I have so much admiration for Margaret Atwood in writing such an imaginative, yet horrifying, book. The film version does the novel no justice at all, even my lecturer said it was 'absolute bobbins.' We gain no insight into the atrocities of the Republic of Gilead and the mental/physical effects it has on the women. I would admire anyone who successfully films a version of the novel!

Summary: a masterpiece
Review: I HAVE SEEN THIS FILM WHEN I WAS 12 YEARS OLD. RECENTLY I HAVE PURCHASED THE BOOK AND READ IT 7 TIMES AND LOOKING FOWARD TO REREADING IT AGAIN..IT BRINGS UP A FUTURE UNTHOUGHT OF BY MANY WRITERS AND DARING..

Summary: Not That Bad
Review: I liked the concept of this movie and I really didn't think it was that bad. However, the acting was dry. The story itself was the compelling factor. I had no idea this was originally a novel. Now, instead of buying the movie I'm going to buy the book. This way I can be abosrbed in the story without having the visual details delivered to me.

Summary: Handmaid's Tale Sucks
Review: I read the book Handmaid's Tale for my year 12 english text response and I thought that it is a very warped book and that it should not have been given to us in the first place. I think that Margaret Atwood must be either very bored or a bit sick in the head to have thought up this story. END

Summary: hand maids tale not good
Review: I read the handmaid's tale for my grade 12 english class and I thought that it was quite insufficient for an intellectual of my standard. The book is basically a porn story and how women are being exploited in the world. It was good for a while, but towards the middle of the book it seemed incredibly boring. END

Summary: Disturbing!
Review: I read this book a couple of years ago and did not realizethere was a movie until I happened to notice it in the video store.

The movie is nothing like the book. The book was much better. The movie drags way too much, and the focus of the movie is on "romance,"--not so much on the society of Gilead. However, even without the book, it is an interesting story and sobering to consider. Beautiful Faye Dunaway was an improvement over the dumpy Serena Joy portrayed in the book, and was very good at portraying the "Bondage" that existed for all women in this society--even the supposedly "privileged." Robert Duvall is amazing, as always, and in spite of his "corrupt" character,(...).

Overall, a movie worth watching. END

Summary: Brilliant, scary that this could still happen
Review: I remember watching this a few years ago and thinking of it some times scares me. It's like 1984 meets The Story of O. To me this shows that yes women can be strong in such situations. Duval and Henderson give masterful performances which truly inhance the quality of this wonderful film.

Summary: Beware of movie Prophesy
Review: I saw the movie and eventually read the book, and my heart skipped a beat. This movie hit close enough home to make it frightening. Though fiction, it seems to have a scary connection to actual foundamentalist political though of some "so called guardians of morality" groups.
