Summary: I was disappointed with this movie.
Review: This doesn't compare to the Lloyd-Webber version at all, because David Staller's voice is too deep for some of the songs he sings. It sounds like he is talking rather than singing. Crawford has a better range and can sing "Music Of the Night" and "Wandering Child". Carlotta's rendition of Marguerite's "Jewel Song", done in English, was a disgrace. The French version on Gounod's "Faust" CD sounds a lot better as did the dubbed singing voices for Teri Polo and Charles Dance in the 1990 version shown by NBC. The make-up on Staller's face was eerie, but not scary.

Review: This is a GREAT musical version of Gaston Leroux's novel the "Phantom of the Opera". But, it is NOT the Lloyd Webber musical. Personally...it is better. It has wonderful music including a beautiul song sung by Christine called "Angel of Music". Filmed LIVE in front of an audience! Worth Every Penny!

Review: This musical interpretation of "The Phantom of the Opera" has to be one of the worst yet. There are no redeeming qualities in this production. From the very beginning it's amateur night in the theater. DVD looks like it was made on the cheap. Sound is distorted at times-there is no booklet/ very little info on back of box. Stay away from this one- it is not enjoyable.

Review: The music of this theater drama is not one like Lyyod-Webber's but the voice talents are very exceptional. There is one song that will grab your attention called or I assume "Perfect Music." This song can relate to "Music of the Night" because of the its timing. Elizabeth Walsh stars as Christine and is very convincing, even more so than Sara Brightman was In Lyyod-Webber's version. In all, this is an average theatrical version of The Phantom of the Opera.

Review: Got this Video just the other day. I was so excited to watch it never knew it was out. I am a BIG Phantom and Lloyd Webber fan but I am a fan of Phantom in all forms..this production is a medium to well grade production video...That I laughed myself to tears in parts...It is alot of fun and if you just need that Phantom fix...here you go...I really recomend it...I am gunna share it with all of my friends they will love it...a GOOD TIME FOR ALL!

Review: Honestly - this title ought to be removed from every list of serious retailers, it's a fraud in many senses! The whole show looks like some provincial amateur staging. I cannot judge the music, because the copies are such poor quality in picture and sound that one can barely notice that there's a musical score at all... Copyright issue: even the producer's trailermusic is stolen from another filmcompany! The only star goes out for the best phantom makeup I've ever seen. To every Phantom phan out there: don't touch this one, "or a desaster beyond your imagination will occur"!

Review: I LOVE this version! The music is very lovely (well, except when the ballet girls are singing/screeching about the Opera Ghost) and David Staller is an amazing Phantom! Not to mention the Christine has a beautiful voice. But if you happen to be a Raoul-Basher, you might be a little irked - in my opinion, Raoul is given a little TOO much credit in this (On the roof: Raoul:"But Christine, I will go to any lengh to win you...! Unless I am exagerating my own importance..." Christine: "Don't say that! You're VERY important to me!" Me: *slaps forehead* "Omigawd...") Anyway, the managera are HALARIOUS, and The Persian is such a cool character! Only thing that bugged me is that Madame Giry is REALLY scary...

Review: This movie is very moving. It lets you imagine what Erik the phantom of the opera has really been through. It also has very well done music.

It a comedy sort of because some of the parts are rather funny. I think it was worth every penny. David Staller has a very nice voice and knows how to use it well.

My favorite part was the mirror scene it was a very beautiful duet and you will enjoy it if you get this movie.

The makeup for the phantom's face follows closely to the novel. But the makeup makes him really look like the phantom that you imagine when you read the book.

I really recomend this book for anyone wanting to purchase it. I loved it! It is really good!

Summary: I LOVE IT!
Review: I am always glad when a new movie about Erik comes out, especially when it is done as a musical. Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical is excellent, but his is definitely not the only one. I truly enjoyed this one. It captures the seductive qualities that I have always seen in Erik. I love the humor and I do get a guilty pleasure out of that very last scene (with the ballet dancer). Just go on with life, Erik. Hee hee. Just go on.

I adore David Staller's voice. He sounds a lot like the way I had always imagined Erik to sound. The makeup used for Erik's visage is one of the most loyal to the descriptions provided by Leroux, Kay, and Siciliano I have seen in a movie. Lon Chaney, as much as I love the guy, gave Erik that look that comes across to me as way too campy. Staller's is for real, except I wish they had not followed Andrew Lloyd Webber's half-mask, half-facial deformity formula.

Part of what some others may not like about this one is that it does have that quirkiness that comes with trying to record a live stage show. I hope one day that it gets better adapted for a movie like the Yestin & Kopit musical had been, the one starring Charles Dance as Erik. I mean, this is one of the few adaptations in which Carlotta, Raoul, and even the Daroga are ALL made likeable. Remind me to send Carlotta some roses (sniff). Remind me also to accompany the Daroga in chasing Erik (tee hee) and to be Erik's audience for DON JUAN TRIUMPHANT!

Review: If you are a fan of Lloyd Webber's Phantom, then you should look at the case and realize that 1.) Andrew's name isn't on it. 2.) It doesn't have the correct logo.

I have seen this tape. I have seen 5 different musical versions of Phantom. Webber's isn't the only one out there. Just as there are innumerable screen versions, not just Lon Chaney's silent adaptation.

This show shows the Phantom story in a different light and should be taken on its own value, not compared to Webbers. It would be like comparing "The King and I" to "Anna and the King of Siam". totally different.
