Summary: I AM NOT A RAP FAN!
Review: But I do want to say that once again I am amazed by Eminem's talent! The guy is pretty good at all corners of the entertainment table of life. I don't really like the whole rap and hip hop style but I can't help to find myself moving my head to his lyrics and dropping my shoulders as I drive my listing to my girlfriends CD. This movie does ispire me and I am sure many others to show that no matter how hard it gets you can always get back up. The cast and filming this film create a farely real enviroment for the characters. I do have to say no matter how "old school" a person may be. This film will still amaze them.

Summary: Good movie
Review: There are some old-school Hollywood conventions at work in this movie, and in truth, it wasn't as good as I would expect from Curtis Hanson. But remember, before L.A. Confidential, he did River Wild. Anyways, this is pretty damn interesting from beginning to end. Detroit is an ugly place, but life goes on. Eminem does some decent acting work, but the rap battles are what make this movie stand out. Rap battles are in their crudest form exceedingly racist and degrading, among other things, but imagination, skill, and tact elevate some among others. Now you can see why Eminem's apparent degradation of women and homosexuals is actually just part and parcel of his training in one of the ugliest sections of urban America. Take a close look at the impromptu rap battles that Hanson didn't put in the film, and you'll see how truly ugly rap can be, and how polite and imaginative Eminem is by comparison, if you can believe that.

Summary: Gay Man Won Over By Eminem!
Review: When Elton John played with Eminem on the Grammy Awards I wondered what was up? Elton wouldn't jumpt into a controversy without a good reason. I then saw Cleaning Out My Closet video on MTV and was hit right between the eyes! When 8 Mile was released I couldn't wait to see it. I saw the movie and later the DVD, I was a convert! Great talent!

Review: Okay, I can't believe I'm doing this. I'm walking home with a copy of Eminem's star vehicle '8 Mile' under my arm. The rental guy knows me pretty well, and he looked at me funny when he saw me renting it. He knows what I think of rap in general, and Eminem in particular. Still, I have to see what all the brouhaha is about, so here, let's play this bad boy.We start with Eminem himself in a bathroom, getting ready to go rap. Oh, and we start with the new hip way of shocking an audience: live barf on screen. I didn't need to see that. But it's getting better already. After a biographical aside into Eminem's character, Jimmy Smith, Jr., a.k.a. Bunny Rabbit, we get a shot of him onstage at a rap duel. Seems all he wants is a fair shake, and his best bet for getting it is to be able to create better art than anybody else. He and his crew are looking to face down another group, the Leaders of the Free World, led by one Papa Doc (!). Sadly, onstage, B. Rabbit chokes, and then, well, so much for his hopes. The movie, as it turns out, covers one week in B. Rabbit's life as he's forced to move back home with his mother, accept a demeaning job, break up with a shaky girlfriend, and try to rebuild his life. All he wants is the respect due a man, and all he gets is slapped down coming and going. His rap is the only thing he has, and he's coming more and more to realize it. B. Rabbit is a white man in a black man's world, so he loses coming and going. He has the support of a few friends, and he meets a heck of a girl, but only progressively does he come into himself. He's offered a chance at a recording deal, but the man who offers it talks out of both sides of his mouth, and it's hard to tell what to believe out of him. Brittany Murphy plays his girl, but she seems to be along mostly as a plot device. Her character isn't much fleshed out, and while she provides something for Eminem to fight for, she seems vague throughout most of the movie. There's also a wholly unnecessary scene in which we watch Murphy and Eminem have sex. This forwards the story not at all, and it's done in very unromantic tones besides, as though Murphy is there to provide sex on demand for our hero. Okay, Brittany Murphy is a good-looking young woman. Great. But you don't need to prove it to us in exacting detail! This film appears to be partly autobiographical on Eminem's part, but there are some inconsistencies. In his music, Eminem has openly attacked and berated his mother, yet B. Rabbit loves his mom, played by Kim Basinger. (Notably, we are able simultaneously to believe that Basinger is old enough to be Eminem's mother and sensual enough to have a boyfriend her son's age.) B. Rabbit also busts a rhyme to defend a gay co-worker from insult ' this from the artist who declared his dislike for homosexuals, then gave Elton John a big bunny hug live at the Grammies. Will the real Slim Shady please stand up, indeed. In part, this film is wish-fulfillment for Eminem, but it's not the apotheosis we might be led to expect. It ends, not with the hero being made a star, as rock movies often do, but with our hero realizing he has a long row to hoe and that he needs to get back to work. This demonstrates a distinct maturity on Eminem's part, and a definite clear head for the writer and director. So what do I tell the rental guy? Do I suddenly like Eminem? Naw, I wouldn't go that far. However, there may be more to him than I previously gave him credit for. Maybe it's time for me to open my mind and re-evaluate him a little.

Summary: Surprisingly great movie
Review: I wasn't expecting a whole lot from this movie and was very pleasantly surprised. Some of the my favorite acting performances have been when an actor is basically playing himself, and Eminem plays himself very well in this movie. The reviewer who said it was basically Rocky with rappers is extremely correct, but it works. The thing is that the movie is a drama but Eminem's raps are so funny it adds the perfect amount of comic relief in all the right moments. Highly recommended.

Review: I saw this movie at my theaters today and enjoyed the film alot. Eminem (Marshall Mathers) who has never taken serious acting lessons at all and performed extremely well for his first film.
It was an emotional feeling film about a want-to-be rapper who wants to make it to the big time. He will need to take it step by step though. In the film Eminem over comes his stage fright. It was a movie that I would recommend to anyone. I know that I'll certainly be buying the DVD. This film made around $220 million world wide. As some might say, the film's ending was a bit off, but look at 'The Good Girl' with Jennifer Aniston, it ended terribly but it was one of the best films of 2002 and was at the Sundance Film Festival 2002. I think Eminem deserved an Oscar for this film. It is an Oscar winning movie!

Summary: Simply Bad
Review: Picked up this movie after hearing all the praises and decided to find out what all the fuss was about. Simply put, this movie is simply aweful, the editing job of the film was horrible and there were some scenes in which made me go "what the hell was that?" What made it worse was that I didn't like the overall character that Eminem plays...simply put the main hero is just a wuss. The rap battles were alright and there were quite a few...but made me realize that the rap battles were all scripted just for the movie, which loses the credibility in when these rappers spit out their dissing rhymes. Spend your money elsewhere.

Summary: Hip Hop on DVD
Review: Many people were doubting Eminem would act well or that this movie would be good. Well, Eminem shows he's a great actor and the movie is very good... The 2003 Oscar Winner for Best Song (Lose Yourself, by Eminem), 8Mile is now on DVD...
It's about a white guy who wants to have fame in hip hop world, his name is Jimmy Smith Jr., known as B Rabbit along his friends. The movie starts out with a rap battle, and he's defeated. It takes the whole movie for him to win the ultimate battle (a very exciting scene).
The 5.1 Surround sound is amazing, the image is much better than many others DVDs I own. The extras are great too! Check the main extras out:
- The Making-Of 8Mile: It's not a huge making of, but it shows some things you might be interested in knowing.. Why did they decide to make this movie, and many other things.
- Rap Battles: In the Shelter (the place where rap battles happen in the movie), there is the crowd who judges the rappers. Between takes, they were getting really bored, so the director made a contest: "Are you 'good' enough to battle Eminem"? Some people tried, until four were selected to battle him. What happened? Well, watch it! Very funny!
- "Superman" Music Video: This is one of the best extras. This video clip will never be on TV because it is really explicit, but it is one of Eminem's best video clips ever.. Exciting!
The movie is rated R because of strong language (those words, you know... F-word, S-word, N-word...), Sexuality (it has three sex scenes, but not explicit ones), some violence (a Rabbit friends shoots himself with his own gun in the leg, Rabbit is beaten up, no big thing...) and drug use (Rabbit's friends smoke marijuana).
If you are a hip-hop fan, you might really like this DVD. If you don't like it, give it a try and rent it. It's a very fine movie, NOT an Eminem-movie!

Summary: Surprisingly, and amazingly, well put together and good
Review: Let me start off by saying that I am not a listener of rap or hip hop music. It's not by type of music, never has been, and never will be. That aside however, I am an admirer of Eminem; not so much for his music, but his attitude and the unbridaled passion that he puts into his music. Despite all the hype built up around it when first released, I went into 8 Mile with an open mind, and came out pleasently surprised. Yes, the storyline and plot is the typical underdog comes out on top story we've seen too much of in films of the past, but thanks to the smart direction of Curtis Hanson and a surprisingly solid cast, 8 Mile ends up being far better than it should be. Eminem may not have all the acting talent in the world, but he brings a vulnerability to the screen that will make the viewer root for him whether they are an Eminem fan or not. Kim Basinger gets extra kudos for her role as the alcoholic mother, and Mekhi Phifer is surprisingly good as well. All in all, 8 Mile is a surprisingly good film that is worth checking out whether your an Eminem fan (or a fan of rap music for that matter) or not.

Review: This movie is very good and is inspirational as well. This is a movie that you should see if you love rap music,especially if one of your favorite rappers is Eminem. All of the actors in this movie did a great job especially in the freestyle rap battle scenes. 8 Mile isnt just a story about a white rapper proving that he can rhyme,its a story about what you can do if you believe in yourself and work hard to achieve your goals.
