Summary: Not as bad as I thought it would be.
Review: In truth I wasn't expecting much of this movie. I'd read the book and I know that movie directors tend to butcher books when they make them into movies. But I was curious so I decided to get the movie anyway. And I was pleasantly surprised; it was very good! It followed the book's plotline closely. The only major difference was turning the Handyman into a woman, and the changed ending.

Summary: ~Perfect just the way it is!~
Review: It will leave you crying. When I heard of this movie the first time, well I thought it was going to be A really boring movie. To tell you the truth, I only watched it because Elijah Wood was in it! But after I watched, it just blew me away and I cryed. It takes you beyond the movie. Elijah Wood and Rachael Leigh Cook were such a cute couple (in the movie). Like I said it will leave you crying!

Summary: Hopeful and sad at the same time
Review: Kept me guessing what was really going on the first hour. Elijah Wood was pretty compelling as a young man who has amnesia. Surprise twist towards the end that made me sad, angry, and glad (kind of) at the same time. Wish we could see more of the story though, because they leave you hanging in the end.

Summary: A pathetic waste of time
Review: Like most of the world, I was astounded by the convincing performance of the cast in the Lord of the Rings, and have consequently looked into the background filmograhy of the actors who previously were just mere names to me: Elijah Wood, Viggo Mortenson, Sean Astin (I recommend Sean's "Rudy" as a great family flick). Elijah Wood is no doubt an extremely talented actor, however "The Bumblebee Flies Anyway" is really the pits. The movie is so poorly done, I was very dissapointed. The script is poorly written, the story lacking any kind of development, and the characters are as stale and sterile as the hospital in which it was filmed. The subjects in the movie are profound indeed - love, hope, terminally ill children, friendship - but they were not treated in a convincing way. This could have been a great movie had not depth been replaced with a dry superficiality. Actors like Wood, Janeane Garfolo, and Rachel Leigh Cook deserve better, as there was really nothing for them to work with here. If you are looking for an Elijah Wood film that is worth watching, I highly recommend "The War".

Summary: Great Movie
Review: One of my friends (a die-hard elijah fan) and I were trying to decide what movie to rent at a video store. She picked The Bumblebee flies anyway. What a stupid name. I was skeptical.
Here's the dirt: The movie is great, as long as you are a thinker. You will like it okay if you like chick flicks. If you are only an action-type movie goer, then don't bother, you won't appreciate it.
Acting-wise: Elijah wood does a great job, so does joe perrino. I also thought janene garafolo did a good job. Rachel lee cook wasn't that great. She had her moments, but every once in a while, it sucked. I mean, hey, if you're brother was dying, wouldn't you cry when your brother was dying and you had to say good bye?
it however, is a must see to us artistic individuals.

Summary: A MUST SEE!!
Review: The Bumblebee Flies Anyway

16 year old Barney Snow didn't remember much before he came to the clinic for terminally ill children. Only his name a few random facts and one dream, like a vision of his past, he was driving in a red convertible out of control but that is all that he remembers...

You see Barney is amnesic which means he cant remember anything about his life or how it ended. As Barney's condition worsens people keep having to tell him stuff over and over again. He then finds strength and hope in his roommate a boy with bone marrow cancer and as their friendship grows Barney has to come to terms with the fact that his new friend's days are limited. The title comes from the fact that bumblebee's are too big for their wings and shouldn't be able to fly but they do.
Mazza, his sister now turns to Barney for the strength to leave her brother. Mazza falls in love with Barney and the story takes a new turn as Barney must now decide which is worse, give up his future or lose his past?
This is a compelling story about hope, courage and friendship and one that may require Kleenex but should apeal to all ages 11-20 and is surly a movie you don't want to miss.

Summary: Remarkably bad -- do not buy
Review: There is a mystery at the heart of this movie, for sure -- what are well-regarded actors like Elijah Wood and Janeane Garofalo doing in such a terrible film?

It is so maudlin and poorly-written it verges on mocking the plight of terminally ill children. Ick.

I suspect many of the positive reviews here were written by young women smitten by Wood. And he is cute, and he is in every scene in this film. If I were still 15, I expect I'd feel the same.

But if you happen to be a grown up, don't bother with this one.

Summary: Homebase
Review: This film hits homebase with me. Not only do I work with young kids in a phase one atmosphere I too won't make it to middle age. This film brings a true light to what really goes on in our lives and ourdilemas and also brings in great cinematography and score. The plot will keep you guessing, laughing, crying and sitting on the edge of your seat. Definately a film worth buying and watching again and again. I hope this opens peoples eyes to our world if only for a little while. Passion and courage are vividly portrayed by the cast of this film so acurately I have practically made friends with thier characters. I recomend this movie to people of all ages and tastes.

Summary: An aquired taste
Review: This film is about a Barney Snow (Elijah Wood) who's lost all his memory of his family and is currently living in sort of home for sick and handicapped children, under supervision by doctors and such. Rachel Leigh Cook co-stars as his love interest he meets through her brother, Burto, who is also at this hospital home. The story unwinds as Snow figures out exactly why he's lost his memory (and it's not at all predictable).
The pros in this film are the lead characters, all the children in the film are excellent (except for that little black kid, who can't act very well) and the story is unpredictable and pretty original. It's the type of soothing cute story which will leave you with a feeling of calmness after you've seen it, mostly because of all the locations the movie is in; a quiet, quaint, suburban town in the middle of autumn everyone dreams of growing up and living in.
The cons for one are the pace of the film; it's not for the impatient, because even though this movie is only about 1:30 hours long, it feels like a lot more simply because there is just too much dialog and quiet moments and the film just seems to move too slow. My g/f was bored watching it, it's almost as if they just threw a lot of stuff in to take up some more time. Jeanine Garofallo was obviously doing this one for the money, her character is not comedic in any aspect, she is flat and doesn't seem to be trying very hard in terms of acting abilities, if she was trying to showcase her dramatic side, she picked the wrong film.
So why did I give this film 4 out of 5 stars? Mostly because of the ending (mostly with the Burto character), even though it's kind of hard to grasp (I still don't really get it), it has a sense of fundemental beauty, whether it's the music, the 3 boys situation, or whatever, it just seemed to take me back to when I was a pre-teen and felt that the whole world was at my fingertips, and that there was hope for the future or anything for that matter. Sure the pacing is slow, and story is a bit proposterous, but underneath it all lies a beautiful film and concept, just a bit misdirected.
