Summary: Very bad movie !!!
Review: This film is nothing marvellous !!!

Nicolas Cage could'nt make a great performance in this terrible movie. This boring and soporific movie without screenplay is the worst movie of Nicolas Cage. Watching this movie during two hours is almost an impossible mission, it's a waste of time.

Don't buy this horrible movie !!!

Summary: Modern Day M*A*S*H
Review: This movie was awsome. It got great reviews from Roger Ebert. Unfortunately it didnt do well at the box office. Just a few facts for those who are not in this buisness (I have been an EMT for 10 years with one of the busiest volley EMS services in CT) Frank is suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Remember this movie took place in the early 1990's, long before the development of CISD (Critical Incident Strees Debriefing). No we do not all really act like this, Connelly was trying to make a point about how stressful this job can be and he did an excellent job of putting together all of the war stories he has either experienced or seen over his long career. IMHO EMS, Fire and Police professionals with a sense of humor enjoyed this movie, those who take themselves too seriously did not. As far as Rescue 471 goes it was a good book. Canning's writing style improved dramatically from his 1st book - Paramedics. Just a warning to my fellow volunteers. Canning bashes us big time in his first book. He has no respect for volunteers or the hard work that we do FOR FREE. Remember, Paramedics save lives, EMT's save paramedics.

Summary: Bringing out what?
Review: I'm not sure what to make of this movie. Part of me wants to laugh at its absurdity while the other wants to just stare in slack jawed shock at the complete and total inaccuracies and discrepancies of the film. Still another part of me cringes to think that lay people will see this and think that emergency medical professionals really do behave in such a manner. I cannot comment on the book this movie was based on because I have not read it. I can however direct you to the truly excellent Rescue 471 : A Paramedic's Stories by Peter Canning. Similar area, identical tales of human madness. Identical patterns of burnout, insanity, redemption, and hope. Peter's novel leaves you with a sense of satisfaction and fondness and pride in your profession. All Bringing out the Dead will bring out is a bitter taste in your mouth.

Summary: A future classic.
Review: Some of the reviews here claim there is no plot to the film, and that takes away from the overall package.

Personally, I feel the movie would not have rang true if there was some kind of a plot. Much like Taxi Driver, it's a film about one man's internal meltdown.

Maybe the fact that there really isn't much of a character development adds to the feel. Frank doesn't know who he is himself, which makes it impossible for us to truly know him.

The film seems all too real. Maybe not a film for all tastes, definitely not Marty's best, but truly an amazing film that deserves a second look.

The film is also about forgiveness of self. Frank beats himself up over a girl he couldn't save. So many times we don't forgive ourselves, even after we've been forgiven. It isn't until the end when he truly realizes this.

Lastly, have you noticed that Frank is actually more stable than many of his partners?

Summary: The danger of retreads
Review: Director Martin Scorcese and screenwriter Paul Schraeder revisit the territory that, in their youths, they brilliantly explored together in "Taxi Driver" -- the streets of Hell's Kitchen, NYC. Unfortunately, this time they should have stayed home! We get the same old lowlifes and trapped working class we had in "Taxi Driver," with no compelling story line and no fascinating inner compulsions, and no hint of the economic boom that today is transforming Times Square from devil's den into Disney's playpen. Nicholas Cage, John Goodman, et al, are talented, and the emergency lights streaking down the rain-slicked streets make for lush visuals, but this movie just drives around in circles, looking for a reason to live.

Summary: One of the most misunderstood movies in recent memory
Review: A lot of people had trouble finding the core of this movie, thus blaming it for being too unfocused. The main character in this movie is New York City of the Nineties. More specifically, it's an anti-Giuliani picture. In this movie, Scorcese argues convincingly that the notorious qualities of the "old New York' still very much exist today. The Giuliani administration and large corporation(read Disney and Gap) has put considerable effort in sweeping the underbelly of New York under a rug. After seeing the movie, I could not look at my favorite city the same way. I saw what the city's been trying to hide for the past few years more clearly, even in the "New Times Square". If that doesn't convince you, look at the statistics, the gap between the rich and the poor grew dramatically, the percentage living below the poverty line rose, and the number of homeless pretty much stayed the same. Everything in this movie conveys this message.

Cage here embodies the psyche of someone who is obviously frustrated and worn down by this disparity between the real New York and the spin-driven hyped-up image of the new NYC. Like in Birdy and Leaving Las Vegas, Cage shows that his versatility is only surpassed by the likes of Brando, Duval, De Niro, etc. The rest of the cast is stupendous. The transfer is absolutely stunning, doing complete justice to the gorgeous work that we've come to expect from Scorcese and Richardson.

Summary: so unbelievably believable
Review: honestly, i haven't seen this movie in about two weeks. I got it first about a month ago, and watched it again and again. I think i have seen it four times. It is extremely hard for me not to pick it up in the rental store. I am forcing myself to not watch it so i don't get tired of it. I sure as hell do not want to memorize it. ok, now to the movie. It is great. I'd like to think i watch a fair amount of movies, about 1-3 every week. This is my absolute favorite movie. One thing i can remember about why i like it is that there are a lot of scenes where something could happen and it, doesn't! it is quite difficult to understand, but to see something that has scenes like that is great. to explain, most movies i see use every scene to try and make something happen, and the characters are flawless, they always say the right thing at the right time. This movie does not do that. it is life-like. it gets the viewer to root for the characters, like, do this, do that, why aren't you doing that, and so on. and when the characters don't do what you were hoping, you honestly feel let down. in a good way. i don't know if this makes any sense, but i love this movie greatly. It is Scorsese's masterpiece, in my mind.

Summary: Scorsese Returns
Review: In Martin scorsese`s 18th film Bringing Out The Dead, he returns to his normal New York setting to direct an excellent cast in his usual style. This doesn`t compare to his most renowned works, Goodfellas, Taxi Driver, Mean Streets and Raging Bull. But it is still an excellent addition to his fabulous list of films. The film kept me hooked with its visual images, and the fact that he works with writer Paul Schrader again, after Taxi Driver and Raging Bull, and with a no holds barred story which could easily have been made in scary style. The dark humour involved between the characters is near genius as we seen before in his other humorous film After Hours. It does remind us of Taxi Driver, in the way that Nicolas Cage plays a crazy loner floating through the streets of New York. It doesn`t have the power of Taxi Driver but even Scorsese not at his best is better viewing than most attempts to copy him. This film couldn`t have been done without Scorsese`s style. His blistering direction combined with a great cast makes this a near perfect film. But saying this, watching this film makes us think of his earlier, and far superior films. It always made me think of how this film isn`t as good as his past should suggest. But again, without Scorsese it couldn`t have been done as well. In short, very enjoyable, with dark enough moments and exciting turns to keep Scorsese fans happy.

Summary: Not good
Review: Perhaps the biggest problem of this film is that it indicates the deterioration of a great director.More of a star vehicle than an actual film bringing out the dead disappoints minute after tedious minute. Perhaps scorsese should disregard his own hype and take a look at some of his work from the 80's, particularly the very neglected After Hours, or perhaps he should stop hanging out with spielberg.

Summary: Great on paper....Boring in reality
Review: This is a great concept movie, filming the life of a paramedic in Nyc, it sounds intriguing... However, this movie just doesn't deliver, its all over the place, and in my opinion Nicolas Cage hasn't been in a good movie since Leaving Las Vegas. The guy is just way to melodramatic...and dull in this film, which goes further to all characters..(why the hell is Marc Anthony in this movie, and exatcly what kind of hair does the guy have...a spanish guy with dreadlocks? ...i don't know seemed a bit fake to me)There were some sequences that were really cool, like when Frank was helping out ghosts out of the cement,...i thought was cool..as well as a section of the film where he passes by some people who are filmed walking backwards as forwards...in other words their steps are all over the place..cool visual. However, as a whole the movie doesn't hold itself together..a big disappointment..
