Rating: Summary: One Of My Favorite Films With Flash, Style and Substance Review: This is easily one of the best historical biopics ever made ranking up there with Nixon and Malcolm X. This is also a towering directorial achivement for Danny De Vito that proves he can handle telling any kind of story not simply dark comedies (i.e. Smoochy, Momma, Roses). Nicholson's performance is also pretty amazing as is De Vito's and particularly the bit roles of Robert Prosky ("wear it like a white man") and Frank Whaley. The cinematography and score are also completely out of this world. Give this film a shot you will not be dissapointed. I cannot wait to purchase the dvd the day it comes out. De Vito is a genius.
Rating: Summary: Hoffa: One of my heroes! Great Film! Review: This movie rocks! Hoffa and the movie Casino with Robert De Niro are the two greatest movies of all time! Hoffa tells the story of a labor matyr with such precision that it could make a heartless man cry! I have always been a fan of drama movies and this one really kicks @$$! This movie is tied with Casino for my favorite movies of all time! See it now!

Rating: Summary: DeVito (Mis)Direction Sends Potential Classic Off-Track Review: Yes, Nicholson gives another good (I would hesitate to say great) performance, but DeVito miscasts himself and shows a complete lack of knowledge when it comes to the direction of action sequences. I didn't believe any of the big set piece action sequences for a minute. Much of the early movie is dark and gloomy, and that's exactly the mood established in me. Hoffa was a gangster, pure and simple, and not a subject for glorification, but if you're gonna do it, at least have the style and wit of a Scorsese or Coppola. Not recommended.

Rating: Summary: Electrifying Drama Review: You don't have to have any interest in the life of Jimmy Hoffa to like this. This is a film for hard core drama fanatics. If you want to learn how to act, watch Jack Nicholson in this movie, who I feel gave the best performance by any actor in the 1990's. I think the telephone call scene around the latter half of the movie was enough to get Jack an Oscar for best actor. Without him, I don't think this film would be nearly as engrossing or captivating. Danny DeVito is another attraction, and if you're not a fan of him now, you will be after you watch this! The performances of these two men, and Assante as well, simply dwarf the talent of today's "hot" actors. I couldn't recommend it more. This movie needs a DVD widescreen release with commentaries and extras. I've been checking for over a year, so I hope Fox gets on it!
