Rating: Summary: good cast and good message overshadow the pedestrian script Review: "The Mighty" has an excellent message of tolerance, and that is why the film should be shown in junior high schools--diversity in people is important and this film does not ignore that. However, the script and the characters (the way they are written, not played)leave much to be desired. The script is full of hokey lines, and the story veers off into action/adventure too many times--but the ending saves the film. The characters all are underwritten, yet the attractive cast makes the gallery of people interesting. The two young male leads are likable enough, Kulkin being the more watchable of the two, however, the adult actors outdo the kids, in terms of thespian achievement. Gena Rowlands and Gillian Anderson give thoughtful performances in two characters that are written nothing much above cartoon characters. The major scene-stealing that is done in this film is by Sharon Stone as Kulkin's mother, who despite having horrid lines to read, manages to pull her Gwen out of the plaster-saint mold that the writer saddled her with. All in all, a good diversion.
Rating: Summary: The Mighty Review: We all gave "The Mighty" five stars because they all did really good acting. Kevin {freak} did a really good job acting for his disability, because we all believed he was disabled. Max did a really good acting for his learning disability. Plus he is really large and he has the physical features for the part. They both had a really good relationship with each other even when people are teasing them. We loved the action especially when Max's dad was in the room, that really scared us. Our favorite was when Max's window was open, and Max closes his eyes and then opened them, and his dad was there. The Mighty was a really good, and thrilling movie. We all enjoyed it.
Rating: Summary: The Mighty Review: It's a very heart-warming tale of two boys that join brains and brawn to overcome the obstacles in life. The characters were well chosen, created a magical friendship and were realistic in their portrail of each individual's disabilities. The characters included Max and Kevin, both with developemental disabilities. Kevin was a teenager with strong physical disabilities but a very strong mind. He is able to help Max overcome his learning disability through immagination and creativity. Both boys are kind to the surrounding community and part take in many deeds of good service. However, Blade and his gang, do cause many obstacles for Max & Kevin to conquer. A wonderful movie for the entire family to enjoy!

Rating: Summary: The Mighty is MIGHTY! Review: This has been my favorite movie since I first saw it on video several years ago. I am so-o-o glad that it is coming on DVD. Disabled children are picked on in the real world. And, so are children who are smart, overweight, economically and/or emotionally poor, etc. The underdog soars high in this film. It is a very touching movie that was well acted and well done. The real story in this movie involves the neighbor boy who lives with his grandparents. He portrays many, many of the children who populate our schools. You won't regret seeing, or even buying, this film.
Rating: Summary: Hokey Review: This film starts off promising, becomes manipulative, and ends up cliched. So what happens to a movie that seems so promising, since it has a cast including Sharon Stone, Kieran Culkin (Igby Goes Down, Signs) Harry Dean Stanton, Gillian Anderson (X files), and James Gandolfini (The Sopranos). Well, it's kind of like those lifetime movies. (You know, the ones which are high on sentmentiality and low on quality.) Not that I'm against emotional movies...I actually love them, when they work. See, the film tries too hard to make you sad. It seems too fake. Not that the acting is horrible. It's just that the film takes you to one touching moment, to another, and then another, and so on. It just seems fixed, and once you start feeling this then the film has no emotional impact on you at all. And the whole sun plot involving Gandolfini was not needed, and didn't fit in well with the overall story. And the whole knights thing was cute at first, but then became too distacting. Still, it's difficult too bash on this film too much because it is still more rewarding than most Hollywood drivel.
Rating: Summary: Excellent family film Review: This film, based on a Scholastic book for young readers, explores the idea of friendship between two adolescent misfits. The cast in the film is excellent, especially the two young men--Culkin and Henderson both do justice in their parts--a very difficult task, since child roles are very difficult. As good as the teens are, the adults (unintentionally probably) overshadow them, which is a mixed blessing--since the adults do not play major roles in the film. Gena Rowlands is very good as is Harry Stanton, as a grim, stony-faced couple. Gillian Anderson proves she has range, as a prostitute--however, the best performance comes from Sharon Stone(!), as Culkin's long-suffering mother, who is awed by her child's superior intellect. Stone's part amounts to little more than a cameo, yet, she inhabits each scene and does the cinematic impossible--steals scenes from child actors. Although it is hard, initially, to believe Stone as a hard-working blue-collar mom (she does a very poor job of "deglamorizing" herself), her spangly star power notwithstanding, she does an incredible job, imbuing strength and intelligence in her spare scenes. Her powerful performance, and scene-stealing is akin to a good Angela Bassett performance, with equal amounts fire and beauty. The film works on many levels, and has an important message of tolerance of individual's differences, and would be excellent for junior high schoolers, or high school freshmen.
Rating: Summary: A touchy story of friendship and hope Review: This movie touched me..the mighty is based on the novel Freak the mighty. This is an excellent movie..great cast, setting..music...this movie blends beauitfully from beginning to end.
Rating: Summary: A disappointment Review: I was very disapointed by the film, for I almost fell asleep during the movie and it wasn't even close to catching the aspects of the terrific book. The book touched my soul deeply, but this was just plain bad. Max and Freak did not look or act like I would have imagined, nor did they have the true feelings you could sense from the book. Also, the movie missed many huge points that the was in the book which were crutial to understanding the plot and how close they were. I was very disappointed by the performance of the all star cast with Gillian Anderson, Sharon Stone, and o couple other people. I almost forgot to add that I think that Gillian Anderson and Sharon Stone should have traded parts because their personalities didn't match up with their parts.
