Summary: Hey, anybody want this $4 million I just found?
Review: Great flick and nice DVD. About halfway through the movie, my wife and I looked at each other and asked "What would you do?". I will not spoil the story for you, but I think that you will be pleasantly surprised by this movie - which got quite a bit of critical acclaim, but was not a huge commercial success.

The DVD transfer is very clean and I felt like I was right in the middle of a midwestern winter (a little cleaner, brighter winter than the one in Fargo). The crisp, clear picture, especially during the daylight scenes outdoors, really give the feeling of cold isolation. The sound is very clear, but the surround channels are not used extensively. There are basically no extras on this disc (I don't consider a movie trailer an extra).

If you can watch this movie and finish without a knot in your stomach, you might be a candidate for hiding the $4 million yourself (and just maybe getting away with it).

Summary: nothing short of perfection.
Review: Never before have i seen a film where i felt so attached to a character. From the start of this film, my appreciation for Jacob grew and grew as the movie and his character developed together. Billy Bob Thornton does a suberb job that is nothing short of perfection. Bill Paxton is brilliant as well. Paxton proves that he can compete with the best of them in todays acting world. Those of you who think this is worlds apart from the lackluster "Twister" role should definately check out "One False Move". He's always had talent, just was never able to show it. Couple these 2 great actors with the superb direction of one of my all time fave directors, Sam Raimi,(Darkman, Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2, Army of Darkness) and you have the best film made in 1998 by far.

Summary: The greatest movie ever created.
Review: This is the best film ever made. (yes, better than Titanic) The performances were astounding and the story was gripping. The ending left me phsyically shaking for a half hour after seeing it. A must-see.

Summary: Why Scott Why
Review: My town did not bring A Simple Plan to the local movieplex so I had to wait for the video release to see just how Scott Smith would bring his shocking book to the big (small) screen. If I could just speak with Mr. Smith over drinks on the front porch some time, I would ask him why he felt the need to sell out the ending of his disturbing but top-notch book for a neat and tidy Hollywood package. Did they make you an offer you couldn't refuse? Did the test audiences not like all the blood? It would have been so much fun to cast and shoot the book's liquor store scene that brought out the true evil in our "hero," not to mention so vital to the story. Gary Oldman would have been perfect as the cashier and maybe Geena Rowlands as the woman who simply wanted a bottle of wine. Despite my disappointment in the betrayal of the book, the movie gets 4 stars for the performances of Thornton, Paxton (easily his best role yet), and the consistently underrated Fonda. If you have seen the movie but not read the book I urge you to do so, and Mr. Smith, in the future always go with your first instincts and write a screenplay that is faithful to the book that got you there.

Summary: ONE-LINER OF THE YEAR
Review: The 1999 best movie line of the year: "Hey -- Did you see them birds?" -Billy Bob Thornton, to Bill Paxton after a violent encounter of vulture-like crows. Sheer genius demonstrating sheer stupidity.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Bizarre!
Review: This was such a bizarre movie! however, it was very entertaining. I thought Billy Bob Thornton did a great job and I am not a fan of all his movies. If Fatal Attraction kept you from having an affair, this will keep you from trying to hide 4 million dollars you find!

Summary: BILLY BOB THORNTON FINE ACTOR
Review: Very Good Film

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Enjoyble examination into the psychology of human rapacity
Review: "A Simple Plan" is quite simply one of the finest cinematic characterizations concerning the nature of human greediness. Furthermore, it plainly, yet bitingly reveals that which suggests the concealment of one problem leads to a much deeper and more complex obstacle. Sam Raimi's directorial technique is professional, admirable, and extremely effective. The acting is genuinely believable (specifically Billy Bob Thorton's portrayal of Jacob). It is an unquestionably sophisticated film, worthy of its thrilling subject matter, and certainly one of the best pictures of 1998. Do yourself a favor and purchase "A Simple Plan." It will definitely get under your skin.
