Summary: A "must see" which will touch your heart!
Review: My husband and I just returned from a long weekend in Vermont. One of the best things which happened during this, our annual visit to this special place, was our visit to a bookstore where the owner suggested "Spitfire Grill" as a wonderful movie filmed in nearby Peacham, VT. Having visited Peacham one of my first priorities on getting home was to rent the video. After watching the film this evening I can only say that it's everything our new friend said it would be when she recommended it. Fictional Gilead, Maine, the story's location, is so typical of a small town's hesitancy to welcome a newcomer, yet Percy's presence changes this little town forever. Its citizens learn through a tragic experience to look beneath the surface appearance of a person to discover the soul within. Watching the film is truly a spiritual experience. The acting is superb, and the beauty of rural Peacham, Vermont is the perfect setting for such a touching story. While I rented the film watching it once is truly not enough. I'm definitely purchasing this one! A wonderful story to watch over and over again and to share with your family and friends.

Summary: The Sweet Smell of Redemption
Review: Spitfire Grill is a wonderful film about a girl Percy(Allison Elliot) who is recently released from prison and looking to have a fresh start in the small town of Gilead Maine. She is taken in by the local retauranteur Hannnh(Ellen Burnstyn) who is at first unwilling, but knows she needs help around the place.

As the story progresses she eventually wins Hannah's heart, and the heart of her Nephew's wife Shelby (Marcia Gay Harden). They come up with an idea to sell the Spitfire in an essay contest. As this throws the town into an uproar, Hannah hands the essays out to them to read. We are witness to how this act brings new life and a sense of connection to the town and its inhabitants. Although her newphew Liam(Will Patton) believes Percy is bad and out to take advantage of Hannah. This conflict eventually leads to the films climax.

This film is a thoughtful and inspiring, it is plentiful with hope and redemption. Something we all need more often in life. The performances are truthful and honest, what more could you ask for in a movie.

Summary: a Christ story
Review: The character of Percy Talbot is clearly a Christ figure. Her arrival in Gilead at 30 years of age (the age of Christ as he entered Jerusalem) and the neccessity of her to die to bring absolution and salvation to Gilead are no mere coincidences. A little investigation uncovers that a brotherhood of Jesuit monks underwrote the production of this film. This latter point explains the positive message of the film and the complete lack of sex, crude language and vulgarity.

This is a deeply moving film and I believe that naysaying critics are so jaded by the coarse content of modern film that they find it hard to come to terms with a movie that is as uplifting as The Spitfire Grill.

Summary: One of the most amazing films I've ever seen
Review: The Spitfire Grill is a movie that shows the beauty of life and the hope that can be found inside it. This film can make you cry; I've seen this a few times and I still cry. You cry because you feel like you've lost part of your heart when it's over, like it's part of you. Allison Elliot portrays a girl that just needs love, and she's remarkable at it. Everyone should see this.

Summary: amazing portrayal of human emotion triumphing over society
Review: The Spitfire Grill is an absolutely incredible film which shows how the basics of human emotion can be the victor over the oppression of society. This moving film, starring Alison Elliot, is a movie which, unfortunately, not many people know about. Perhaps you have seen it on the shelves of your local Blockbuster but have not even taken a second glance. Next time you go to the movie store I highly reccommend you check this beyond amazing movie out; you will not be dissapointed!! The Spitfire Grill is not a Hollywoodized film, the director had the intent to make a movie which touches on many problems of society today which he wants the viewer to think about. However, although the ending is not your typical Hollywood ending, it shows the viewer how friendship and love can filter through the corruption of society and triumph over it.

Summary: Excellent film!
Review: This film was so well done. The acting was superior. Allison Elliot has an Oscar in her future.

This film proves that you don't need special effects and sex to sell a story.

When watching this film you feel that the characters are real and you care.

The ending is completely unpredictable.

I put this film on my top ten list in the Drama dept.
