Summary: Woman as God intended her!
Review: This is basicly a "tale as old as time". An uptight, well bred, colonial officer is sent out to a colony, meets a beautiful local girl, falls in love, has some kind of conflict, and ends up giving up everything for love.

If your looking for a well written script and creative plotline, look elsewhere. There is nothing in the plot that sets it apart from the myriad of similar offerings. The only people who will find the storyline compelling are hardcore romance fans.

However, one thing that does set this movie apart is its title character. Jessica Marie Alba is one of the most beautiful, stunning, graceful, alluring, and captivating women to have ever graced this planet, let alone the screen. Her mere presence glues your eyes to the screen. Sadly it would appear that a body double was used for the natural scenes, as her face is never shown in any of the shots. However, in a less satisfying way mind you, her choice helps to heighten ones imagination, as there is no doubt that she is undressed while filming some of the scenes. In the end, unless one is fond of body doubles, we are left to enjoy 60 or so minutes of her gorgeous smile, sultry lips, and lithe body with some bonuses thrown in. More than enough reason to check out this movie if you ask me.

One last note, anyone else think that she should have been cast as the heroine in Daredevil?

Summary: HUGH DANCY REMINDED ME OF A YOUNG PETER O'TOOLE?
Review: THIS MOVIE IS PREDICTABLE, AND SOMEWHAT FORMULAIC, BUT NONETHELESS IT SHOWCASES THE BRIGHT NEW ACTOR (HUGH DANCY).

DANCY SHOULD DO WELL IN PERIOD PIECES WITH MIRAMAX AND MASTERPIECE THEATRE. IF YOU DONT KNOW HUGH DANCY, YOU WILL AND HE IS A ***** STAR UP AND COMER. HE WILL DO VERY WELL IN CLASSIC PIECES FOR THE BBC/A&E, ETC.

I WAS HAPPILY SURPRISED TO LEARN THAT DANCY IS IN "BLACK HAWK DOWN" (WHICH I WILL HAVE TO WATCH AGAIN FROM MY DVD LIBRARY) AND RECENTLY "DANIEL DERONDA" (INTERMISSION)--- NOW BACK TO THE DVD, I ENJOYED THE CINEMATOGRAPHY AND THE SOUND EDITING.

A GOOD COMPANION FILM IS "ANNA AND THE KING" WITH JODIE FOSTER. I HOPE MANY WILL ****TAKE NOTICE OF MR. HUGH DANCY****

Summary: The Sleeping Dictionary is breath-taking
Review: This movie was an unexpected delight. I took my kids to see "Ella Enchanted" and found the prince to be played by Hugh Dancy. Not knowing who he was at the time, I decided to go to the local video store and looking in their big book of movies/actors discovered that he was not only in "BlackHawk Down," but he was in "The Sleeping Dictionary." I ended up watching the movie three times in one week (once with my husband)!
The film's setting was amazing, with lush tropical jungles and rivers. The plot was adventureous and playful. The main characters were engaging and fun to watch. There was great physical and emotional chemistry between the two main characters, so the love scenes were sweet and touching.
I have been recommending this film to my friends and co-workers. For me "The Sleeping Dictionary" is a sleeper that turned into a definate keeper! I will definately be looking for more films with Hugh Dancy! I love that playful and devilish smile!

Summary: A beautiful movie for the true romantic
Review: This movie was perfect. It isn't the normal piece of [junk]that is floating around video stores today. It is truly romantic and the fact that Hugh Dancy is hot is a real bonus!

Summary: Contrived schlock
Review: This pitiful excuse for vhs tape was one of the most embarrassing moments of my life. Except for Bob Hoskins, I couldn't believe a word anyone mumbled in this incoherent waste of film. There's a good reason why this never made it to the theaters. Save your money. Life is too short to spend 2 hours on a concept that might have been done in 80 minutes, and even that's pushing it. I should agree that Jessica Alba is a lovely young actress, and she's nice to look at. But go to the internet and look at pictures of her instead, if that's what you fancy.

Summary: I like HUGH DANCY!
Review: Viewers can find many things to criticize about this movie. I am partial to Hugh Dancy. For me, it made a movie I normally wouldn't see worth watching. The supporting cast is excellent. I have seen him in Daniel Deronda where he gave an astounding performance. He is gorgeous, talented and just a fascinating screen presence.

Summary: Is it really Alba?
Review: Well, you do get to see somebody, but I'm not sure it's Jessica Alba. The way the scenes were shot would imply a body double.

Summary: Selima, the Dark Angel
Review: With breathtaking cinematography and lush backdrops, the Sleeping Dictionary is a movie for romantics and kick ... Dark Angel fans alike. Jessica Alba's facial expressions speak for themselves alone, but when she opens her mouth it's like Malaysia meets LA ghetto street talk. Hugh Dancy is absolutely yummy with his school boy turned lover boy attitude. I would like to watch "Black Hawk Down" again just to see Dancy in another role. The two have excellent chemistry together and it's hard to take your eyes off of them. I highly recommend this movie to anyone who needs a "love conquers all" night. Some extra "on the scenes" footage would have been great due to the fact that the movie was shot in Malaysia. Rent it, watch it, enjoy it. ...
