Summary: I saw Robert E. Howard come to life!!!
Review: Being the biggest D'Onofrio fan (I wish he'd let me call him Vinny), I LOVED this movie...Renee was great in her role, and it was so sad to see the unrequited love between the two...as the kiss someone else mentioned.I read alot about Robert E. Howard, and Vinny brought him to our century. 4 stars only because there wasn't enough about REH!!!

Summary: The Best Movie I've seen In a Long Time!
Review: I've always thought Vincent D'Onofrio was a wonderful actor... Over the years I became hocked on everything he did. I had to see everything he was in so I picked this up and was even more amazed. The way he got into this character and the delivery of emotion that he portrayed in this movie was beautiful. This is the first movie in my 18 that I've ever cried to. It touched me so much. If you want to see a GREAT movie please buy this one. You won't be dissatisfied.

Review: Okay, I'm not going to go into detail about how wonderful this movie is...I think the others have already done this quite well.
I just want to point out what an amazing on-camera kisser Vincent D'Onofrio is...there's one particular scene that sticks out...when they're both up on that ledge, looking out on the country, and she leans her face into his. And then he immediately turns to her, and they kiss.
It's one of the most passionate movie kisses you'll ever see---filled with love and urgency.
He's so incredibly wonderful in this film---great in his role. Great movie over all!

Summary: the ending
Review: I came back to my room on an ocean liner, exhausted. On one of their channels they had this movie, and I was almost too tired to watch it. But it held me. Unfortunately for me, I was watching the last half hour, but let me tell you, I was in tears and wide awake by the end of that half hour. Without even seeing the whole movie, I am obsessed. Buying the book and the video in one go. From the other reviews, I can tell I will love the whole movie.

Summary: A Different Kind of Love Story . . .
Review: Eccentric Bob Howard wouldn't be given the time of day in a typical "modern pop-culture" love story, but the beauty of The Whole Wide World is Miss Price's seemingly hopeless perseverance in seeing past and tolerating outward behaviors & appearances and others' opinionated judgements to witness the wonderful and charming person trapped within Howard's isolated persona, yearning (if not outwardly struggling) to break free of the chains that hold it down.This movie will make you feel good as it makes you sad. It's not five stars because, though excellently done, the movie didn't exactly leave me on the edge of my seat. If you're a true romantic, do yourself a favor: see this movie and "take a look at that sunset I ordered for you..."

Review: What a film! The characters are unforgettable. The film gets you all wrapped up inside of it and won't shake you loose. For those of you who like love stories, this is a definite watch. It moves you to the ends of the earth, shakes you up and sends you on your way with the memory of it on your lips.

Summary: touching, truthful and terrific
Review: what a great film. the script is beautiful and the scenery breathtaking, but the real triumph is the performance put forth by the movie's cast. renee zellweger and vincent d'onofrio progress through the relationship between aspiring writer novalyn price and pulp fiction sensation robert e. howard with grace and energy. in a small texas town during the 1930s, novalyn price makes her living as a schoolteacher, but dreams of being a writer. an ex-boyfriend introduces her to quirky bob howard, who makes his living by writing sensual adventure tales about conan the barbarian, among others. this is a love story tinged with madness, and at times you can feel the exhaustion induced by howard's intensity. this film has some great original moments. specifically, look out for the greatest kiss scene of all time. i had to rewind the video and rewatch, stunned that no other director or actor had conceived of this scene before. i saw this movie because i'm a huge vincent d'onofrio fan, and fell in love with the movie. if you see this movie and fall in love with vincent, check out Household Saints, another great independent film (with lili taylor and tracey ullman).

Summary: I Felt Like My Emotions Were Stirred Like A Pot Of Stew!
Review: I taped it off of television several years ago and still 'til this day I haven't forgotten about Robert E. Howard. I think we can all relate to this tragic love where time and circumstances and differences make it unrequited like Romeo and Juliet. Somehow you're hoping it will defy the inevitable. Renee and Vincent were so astounding that it took a while for that story to wear off. Still, I think about it from time to time. A story of love that develops between two writers. One published and one aspiring. The conflict between wrong timing and personal differences serve as the catalyst. One needing something the other can't give or that would kill the other (emotionally) to give it. One person okay with life... they other very unsettled. Two magnets often repelling but attracting is the best description of the true love story that will leave you wishing you could experience that type of love yourself... but perhaps maybe on a better basis. I've not forgotten Vincent D'Onofrio since. Never recognized him much before this movie and couldn't forget his presence afterward. Renee brought it alive and I don't think there could have been a better actress for this role. The Whole Wide World really deserved much more recognition. This is a real movie. But I suppose that would explain the lack of publicity... the truly great movies usually aren't noticed like the typical junk.

Summary: A haunting gem -- don't miss it
Review: This film should be used as example of independent filmmaking at its finest. Made on a shoestring budget with then unknown actors, director Dan Ireland creates a film that is by turns sweeping, intimate, funny and tragic. He takes the viewers into 1930s smalltown Texas and makes you feel like you are there -- you can see how he trusts his actors to portray their characters, and they in turn don't disappoint Vincent D'Onofrio and Renee Zellweger both give unique and memorable performances in this haunting love story. One never feels that they are "acting", even for a minute. One senses the tragedy in the relationship between pulp fiction writer Bob Howard and teacher Novalyne Price, but also the sweetness that led her to write the memoir on which this film was based, many years later. View this film, it will not disappoint. I think it is one of the top ten films I've ever seen. It's a crime that it was not more widely released, or recognized by the Academy Awards. Both actors were deserving of Best Actor/Actress recognition for their work, but I guess small non-moneymaking films don't stand much of a chance in that arena! In my book, Vincent D'Onofrio bested the Best Actor award for that year, Nicholas Cage, by several degrees. This film introduced me to his work, and he is an actor who never fails to give a memorable performance, no matter how small or offbeat the part.
