Summary: Angelina Jolie
Review: This movie works because of Angelina Jolie. Any other actress and it wouldn't even be worth watching. She brings danger and excitement to the film which it desperately needs. The film starts out with a bare butt naked man running through the forest. He barely has much of a part after that so you can guess they didn't hire him for his acting ability. There's some female nudity and some lesbian themes so if you're not into that I'd suggest renting Tomb Raider.

Summary: Intoxicating performances by Angelina & Hedy
Review: The talent that exudes out of a young Angelina Jolie is breath-taking. She is so believable as "Legs", the street smart, fun-living & loving wanderer. You could feel Hedy's anxiety and emotions as she also gave a truly believable performance as the geiky student photographer looking for a little excitement which is delivered by Angelina Jolie's character "Legs". I LOVED THIS MOVIE!! If you are an Angelina Jolie fan & you haven't seen this movie - BUY IT! YOU WON'T REGRET IT!!

Summary: Chocolate-like addiction
Review: Upon first viewing I was disappointed, I felt the story left so many questions and I didn't understand the relationship between the girls, particularly the two main characters, Maddy, played by Hedy Burress, and Legs, played by Angelina Jolie. The plot moves so fast and the characters become so close so quickly, I didn't know how and why they got from point A to point B. To answer my questions I went straight to the source and read the book, then I re-viewed the movie. It was then that I fell in love. The adaption was brilliant, the story was slightly different but the movie kept the book's important elements, the most important being the characters. The producers of this film couldn't have picked anyone better than Angelina Jolie, who displays many of the same qualities of her character, Legs. Angelina Jolie's portrayal is so real, yet she is so dreamlike, etherial, and addictive. These people put together as one is a lethal combination for both the audience and the other characters within the story. As a movie on its own, it's entertaining but I would recommend reading the book then watching the movie. The combination truly gives you an understanding for the story and the characters, more-so than just doing one without the other.

Summary: A beautiful, fun flick
Review: I saw this movie a long time ago and I've always loved it. It's what introduced me to Angelina Jolie, and made me a fan before she became a huge star. There's a lot to love in this film, and not just for teenage girls, though no doubt that was the target audience. I've known guys, and adults of both sexes to enjoy it as well.

What I loved about it, besides the great acting (Jolie, of course was great, but the whole cast of girls shone in this movie) was just about everything. It was fun and heartfelt, the realtionships between the girls were well developed, and there was a certain charisma between them that was interesting. The teenage rebellion was fun and not too formulated, (though it was predictable, of course.)

I also really enjoyed the artistry of lighting and sets in this movie. Buress's room filled with stars (Spike and Virgo - the June sky) the beautiful blue lighitng in some of the scenes and warmth of the candle scene. Someone was an artist here with the feel of the sets - that beautiful old house, too!

Some of the scenes were really powerful in ways that most teen flicks aren't. A lot of that has to do with the quality of acting, I'm sure. But really, all of the actresses were great, and like in all good movies, I was really attached to the characters. Jolie was superb as the cool James Dean-type, drifter-into-town. Buress was a good strong main character and did a fine job of acting off of Jolie, making their relationship really intersting. I loved the scene with Jenny Lewis (who played the shy, Rita) where she sings in the grocery store (she sings in real life in a band I think), and Sara Rosenberg as Violet played her part as the steretypical "[tramp] with a heart" perfectly. Not enough has been said, though, about Jenny Shimizu who plays Goldie the drugged-out "tomboy" character. I think she was really memorable in this movie. Not many supermodels (yes, she's a supermodel, modelling for Calvin Klein among others and appearing in many, many music videos including Madonna's En Vogue) seem to end up acting, but I wish I could see more of her. She's very interesting and tough/vulnerable. She's comes off as sort of androgynous and sad in this story. (Angelina Jolie, after acting in Foxfire, was quoted as saying that if she hadn't married Thorton she would've married Jenny - and I can see why.) I wonder what's happening with her and if she'll be acting again?

And finally, the power of some of the bonding scenes were worth watching this movie for. The tattooing scene with the candles, the scene on the rooftop after Legs finds out Goldie is being abused by her father, the scene where Legs inadvertantly finds out that Goldie wants to kill herself, and the final scene with Legs and Maddy which was sad and powerful. The final scenes made me feel lonely and elated at the same time. And it made me feel how strong the characters were for the choices they made and the directions they took. The very last scene with Maddy is liberating. A great ending to a great movie. And to top it all off the soundtrack kicks [butt]. It's one of my favorites.

To sum up, see this movie, it's well worth it.

Summary: I'm not one for chick flicks but I love this movie...
Review: Foxfire is a film about the intense nature of friendship forged in unusual events, and about what friendship really is and isn't. Five girls come together who weren't previously friends when one confesses that a teacher sexually abuses her. Another of the five confirms her story and they decide to make it stop. What happens next is that they all risk a great deal to be there for the abused girls, and the friendship that comes out of the experience is unbreakable. Throughout the film they take care of each other in a way that you'd expect from family, which is telling of the fact that by taking risks for each other and being true friends they have formed bonds of real sisterhood. This is a movie that adolescent girls will appreciate especially, but all people will enjoy. The chord it strikes in people who seek true friends is something not easily forgotten. This movie is more than a chick flick, and it's more than a story about female rebellion, it's a celebration of the nature of real friendship.

Summary: One of Angelina's best
Review: This was a very beautiful film. When I rented it, I had to watch it three times. Now I want to buy it. The music was excellent. The best song was "I Don't Want To Think About It" by the Wild Strawberries. I just had to cry in this movie. The ending is sad, but it's also happy in a way. Believe me, this is NOT just another stupid chick flick. Foxfire is emotional and it shows you the true value of friendship. I recommend it to all girls and even guys.

Summary: Female empowerment?
Review: I think "Foxfire" is trying to make a positive stand about young women defending their rights. The problem is...it goes about it all wrong.

The fresh, young cast is wonderful. Yes, Angelina Jolie shows what kind of talent she has. Jolie plays a character nicknamed Legs. Legs literally shows up out of nowhere and struts into a high school biology class. She pulls the pins out of a live (!!) frog that is about to be dissected and tosses the frog out a window to freedom. She then climbs out the window herself. Legs has this odd habit of showing up at the school even though she apparently has no connection to it.

Anyway, she befriends four girls at the school. She soon finds out that the scummy biology teacher has been sexually harassing and fondling some of his female students. They decide to get a bit of revenge and end up beating him up. The girls are then suspended for a few weeks. They find an abandoned home in pretty good shape and they decide to make it their hangout.

Some female bonding and hijinks take place. They give each other tattoos. They break into the school and carelessly start a fire. Implausibly, one of the girls is almost abducted by a bunch of guys from the school. Luckily, a couple of her friends had been hiding behind some bushes or something and one of them pulls a knife on the guys. Then they steal the main abductor's vehicle. They end up being arrested and charged with several serious felonies. Extremely weak plotting if you ask me.

Ultimately, the film tailspins out of control. As the movie progresses, the viewer loses more and more sympathy for the girls. It should be the other way around. You should care more about characters once you get to know them. These girls make such awful and selfish decisions that you end up feeling that they deserve whatever comes to them. Sadly, the fabulous cast can't save the fatal script they were given.

Summary: I just cannot decide whether I like it or not
Review: How odd is that? The movie is in a nice package.. music, dressing, etc., down to the minute details. those details wouldn't be so insignificant if they ended in some sort of thing.. a climax, something useful. Sometimes it seems like a nuttin dressed up, trying, trying really hard to be something real. To mimic kids; hopefully not mocking; be symbolic, or just another teen flick. But who is the exact target audience of this thing? Young girls... no too obvious. It wouldn't hold the average 13 yr. old's interest, trust me on this one. Young women, certainly they would have gone past that by watching Clueless a few dozen times. Any Male; perhaps, but only if the individual were poetic or in order to check out the cast with the likes of Angelina Jolie. Dont Worry Though, there is a bright side. Even though there isnt much of a plot, if you are in an appropriate mood, the superb acting (by such a wonderful cast, such great actors), music, ideas, potential or hopefully its essense will keep your attention sealed. It has plot twists, but predictable ones. (As far as poetic..) Well, I think the movie is what you make of it. It does have something about it; something I can't quite pinpoint, that makes it enjoyable. And the chemistry between the girls is fabulous as they do things like saving each other from abusive teacher relationships, breaking into a school, and discovering each individual soul the way it should be. The movie has great direction and production. It is so close, all it needs is substence. You guys decide whether or not you like it.{I havent read the book, but maybe you should.)
