Summary: Buffalo '66
Review: Buffalo '66, directed and written by Vincent Gallo, is an incredible film about this guy named Billy Brown, played by Gallo himself. Billy was a man who was severely down in his luck, from having neglegent parents, terrible luck, and dysfunctional relationships. The root of his anger and bitterness definitely comes from his parents. His mother (played brilliantly yet uncharacteristically by Angelica Huston) was so obsessed with the Buffalo Bills that she disowns Billy since he was born on the same day the Bills won the Super Bowl in 1966 and she couldn't go to the game (and they haven't won since). The story starts off with Billy being released from a 5 year jail sentence ("I was innocent") wandering the streets of Buffalo looking for a bathroom. He finds one at a dance studio, in which he runs into Layla (played by my favorite actress, Christina Ricci). He kidnaps her and somehow persuades her into pretending that she's this girl named Wnedy and that they are married, along with a whole barrage of lies, to impress his parents, not that they really care anyway. After that, Billy and Layla still go places together, but yet Billy is still very bitter and won't easily open up to Layla. He had many emotional scars and trauma (all shown in the movie) and contemplated doing a terrible act of revenge. Then he experienced an epiphany in terms of what would happen if he did it, with Yes' classic epic "Heart of the Sunrise" used effectively, and from there he finds himself in a way, and the film has a surprising ending. This film dealt with human emotion in a non-cliched way, and contained great music and even better acting. Definitely a new favorite film for me.

Summary: A great film by Vincent Gallo.
Review: Buffalo 66 is both a woderfull and very compeling film to watch, it stars Vincent Gallo and was also written and directed by him. The film starts when Vincent's character Billy Brown is released from prison after five years he soon ends up in a dance class where he kidnaps a blond girl named Layla played by the very talanted Christina Ricci and he tells her to lie to his parents who they soon meet up with. His parents seem to be cold and heartless but also funny at the same time, Layla does not seem to have a problem with this and tells them that she met Billy at his work in the C.I.A. and that she was working as a secretery. I think what Vincent has done with this film is that he provided us with some realistic characters and that a difficult person like Billy has some qualities that we can relate to, so some viewers might not like it but I thought it was interesting like how the revenge plot seemed to change at the end.

Summary: A BIG LET DOWN
Review: I heard this movie was going to be good. But within minutes of renting it and putting it in the player (please don't waste money and actually buy this tripe) I found it to be a two hour study of a guy who shot a movie - simply so he could look at himself. The saddest thing is, that he's just not as sexy as he, or the semi-retarded housewives who think he's sexy, think. The movie has no purpose other than ego and it's amazing we even know this bums name. Can;t wait until it's forgotten either, because since seeing it, I've seen so many articles on his NEW MOVIE, suckering people into watching what I'm sure amounts to more of the same. The only thing Gallo is actually talented at, is getting more press. And that's something that any pathetic, souless, brown noser can do.

Summary: I fell in love with this film.
Review: I saw this film on a movie channel in a hotel...I had never heard of it before. It is probably my favorite of all time, funny, happy, romantic in a non chick-flick way, and extremely cool.

Summary: VINCENT IS MESMERIZING
Review: It's hard to explain, but ''Buffalo 66'' touched me in a way that other films and the way they are made don't do so well. Vincent was engaging as Billy Brown. The way it was made and acted just felt real to me and not over the top, and a lot more true to real life(aspects of it).I loved the ending. I was really hopeing that I wouldn't be left with a depressing ending which would of seemed predictable, but boy, I really felt joy with the out come, Vincent definitely won me over. Vincent has given me something to think about that won't be leaving my head any time soon.

Summary: Buffalo chippy-chips
Review: Movie with a big reputation and critical acclaim (mostly). Ho hum. Just a barely average movie.

The positives first. Um, lets see here...
1. The music was pretty decent (Yes, King Crimson)
2. Christina looks nice, but only has two looks in this movie - "pout" and "gaze".
3. A few funny moments.
4. Somewhat interesting camerawork. Except for the boring parts.

Negatives...
1. Hopelessly unbelievable story. Christina's character "Leyla" (but going by Billy's imaginary only-previous-girlfriend's name "Wendy") had many chances early on to escape her loony kidnapper, but chose not to. We have no character development for her, so we don't know if she is emotionally unstable, rebellious against her family, etc. Actually, the fact that she ends up liking the unlikable grimey ex-con loser points to fact that she has no taste, or sense.

2. I can not emphasis enough how much of a loser the character of Billy is. He would not have survived 5 years in prison without getting his teeth knocked out and his nose broken because he was such a messed up ass. He needs some serious psychoanalysis ("Hold me a minute" - she does - "Don't touch me!") Give me a break. His fashion sense has to be seen to be unbelieved. Although Billy seems to see the light at the end, I doubt he will make any lasting recovery. Bottom line - "Does not play well with others."

These 2 large negatives pretty much balance out the 4 positives. It is a professionally-made movie, and the participants seem to be trying, however.

Supporting cast of Mickey Rourke as a bookie, Jan-Michael Vincent as a washed-up alcoholic bowling-alley owner, and Ben Gazzara and Angelica Huston as his parents are decent.

Recommended for fans of Christina Ricci, and maybe residents of Buffalo.

DVD has no extras. A generous 3 of 5 stars.

Summary: Classic
Review: Oh no you are not going to pass this classic up. Nobody should go without seeing the "shifter car" scene, because I think people deserve to laugh really hard. It's you god-given right to buy a movie this good! God wants you to buy this album. If he didn't want you to see such a good movie he wouldn't have created Vincent Gallo or Christina Ricci (with her just-f__king-amazing looks, especially in this movie; pay attention when she's in the tap-dancing class).

Plus it has a happy ending. Everybody likes happy endings. I'm totally gonna steal a page from Billy's book, and buy a girl a heart cookie and a hot chocolate, and I'll play "Sweetness" by Yes when I give them to her. I'll also steal his "kidnap a girl and give her no respect" technique. So romantic!

Summary: Short, but sweet.
Review: People call this film pretentious because it is better than anything they have done...or will do.
