Summary: Actually a pretty good Teen 'Horror' film!
Review: Watching a movie like Final Destination, which is obviously a teen horror movie, you definitely take your chances. You could get something genuinely creepy yet tongue-in-cheek, like Scream, or you could wind up seeing something like Darkness Falls or They. You just never know. When Final Destination came up on my Netflix list, I didn't know what to expect. Would it be something original and scary, or just some lame dud? Thankfully, it turned out to be the former.

Alex (Devon Sawa), along with about 40 others, are all set to take off on a plane destined for their senior trip in France. Right before it is set to take off, however, he has a premonition that shows him that soon after takeoff the plane will crash and everyone on board will be dead. He and others are forced off of the plane, and, sure enough, the plane crashes with everyone else on board. While everyone thinks that Alex caused the accident, he knows that they were supposed to die on board. Soon, everyone who was supposed to be on the plane start dying one by one.

Knowing that this was written and directed by the same team who did Willard, I knew that a lot of the movie wouldn't be just needless blood, but that there would be some sort of a creepy atmosphere to it all. And, by gum, there was. Although it wasn't as atmospheric as the aforementioned movie, and it relied a lot on sudden violence, it was still creepy. It seems like horror movies today rely on quick jumps to scare the audience. Final Destination sure had some, but also the music and the general movie itself was thrilling. When you could see that something was going to happen, you wanted to yell at the character to not do so-and-so. Then you sit back and enjoy the ride.

Something else that surprised me was how many special effects were needed. That was one major drawback. At times, the special effects didn't look real AT ALL (re: the bathroom scene), or there were too many when less is more (re: the final, climactic storm). One other thing that upset me was the constant need to do odd lighting. Because of the off-again, on-again lighting, it's sometimes impossible to tell what's happening. In Final Destination's pursuit to become something ultra-modern, nifty camera movements are tried, but for the unnecessary reasons. For example, a long, overhead tracking shot is used when two people are going to the bathroom. Very unnecessary, if you ask me. I just realized how much Glen Morgan and James Wong are fascinated with people going to the bathroom. There must be a few scenes of that in Final Destination, and one quite humorous one in Willard

I also thought that the movie took too long to get started. We understand that Alex will see the plane crashing, but for about the first half hour that's all that's `implied'. It's very annoying. Thankfully, the characters aren't as stupid as they usually are in teen horror movies, and I did like all of the talk about `death's pattern', etc. Overall, get on board to Final Destination and it won't crash.

Summary: "Destination" is a Mess
Review: When I first saw this film I was looking forward to what I thought would be an interesting new thriller. Although it turned out to be extremnly violent and with an unbelievable story line. Ihis movie starts out wonderfully with the scen at the airport and the dream and then the plane crash. But after the that its basically a gore fest with blood every 5 minutes. After a few deaths (which I might ad are extremly random and could rarely occur) Devon Sawa thinks that there is a pattern to which these deaths are occuring, and basically the whole movie is just watching people die then watching people try to escape the death. Although the movie did try, and the look of the movie is great the overall movie is a mess. And before watching notice the R Rating this movie drops the F- Bomb thousands of times and many times its pointless.

Summary: Nerve shaking
Review: Very freaky movie. It gives you that false sense of security like In the part when the car locks him in on the train tracks, but he gets out. You didn't think that a minute later, the train would run over a piece of metal and chop the guys' head off who was stuck in his car on the tracks. Original plot. Very good movie, but it is pretty fake. If it was remade today it would have been a lot better. Hard to do anything after this movie because you'll be scared that something will kill you that you wouldn't expect.

Summary: It wasn't scary, just gross
Review: Ok, so I was in the mood for a scary movie, I thought this would be scary. WRONG!!!!!! Not scary, just gross. This reminded me of something the sicko boys at my school who are obsessed with stickdeath.com would have come up with. In the plane crash scene, you see a person explode and Alex get burnt to a crisp. His friend dies by slipping on a mysterous liquid in the bathroom and being hung or stranggled to death by a wire cord that was acting as a clothes line. The girl steps out into the street and is hit by a bus and her blood/body pieces go flying into her friends faces. Charming, I know. The teacher...this scene goes on forever. She gets, stabed, burned, electricuted, what doesn't happen to this poor lady?! A guy is almost hit by a train but gets out in the nick of time and as they all stand there, in shock, a piece of metal that was under the train, shoots out and cuts this one guys head off...well, part of his head. Mouth up. You see his head go rolling and his body falls to the ground while another guy pisses his pants. Then you go into this whole "I'm gonna die, No...wait...I changed seats. She's gonna die" thing. Totally stupid. So then they all make it and 6 months later, their finally in Paris, and he is almost killed and then the other guy gets killed by a big sign or something. Or if you watch the other ending, the main guy gets burned to death. Really gross, you see his skin actually frying. Then I think something happens to the other guy. I don't know, I try not to remember. I guess if you are a sick, demented person, who likes watching people die in gross, horriable, but thank God, highly unlikely, ways...This is a movie for you. If you don't want a ton of gore, and were just looking for a scary movie like I was...DON'T SEE THIS MOVIE!

Summary: My favourite movie ever!
Review: I LOVE this movie (and I'm not biased because Seann W. Scott and Amanda Detmer are in it.) I think this is SO underappreciated.
You see, not only are they not conforming to the typical Teen Horror genre (repeated in just about every review) but they are taking what COULD have been and turning it around.
EX: Characters. Typical personas. Just look at how they put a spin on the classic characters.
THE LONER GIRL ("Clear") was pretty much dubbed as one of those "misunderstood starving artists with a troubled past." But then you see that there's more to her than the dark cloathes, the VERY BAD (sorry) art and the boards on her windows. She's pretty spicy, if you ask me.
THE BLONDE BIMBO ("Terry") hardly speaks, simply looks pretty and makes out with her boyfriend. But in her final speech, you think, "Omg, she's pretty mature." Makes you sad when the bus smashes her to bits! NOT!
THE GEEK (My personal fave--Billy!) well, is a geek, and you love him, admit it (On second thought--no, he's MINE!) And while he's really kiddish, it's good to see a kid in a teen flick that DOESN'T have their own car, wear kahkis and have an annoying cell/palm pilote.
THE ANNOYING BEST FRIEND ("Tod") was one other character I couldn't get enough. He was so cute, it was really funny to see best friends that fought all the time.
THE JERKY JOCK ("Carter") was probably the most exhaggerated character, but Kerr Smith played him well. He was still realistic (not EVERY jerky jock has to have a sensetive side.) And I DIE laughing when Seann Scott is lying headless on the ground and Kerr Smith has pissed himself!
I also liked to see Alex gone crazy. It was funny and scary. This is not like a dark comedy, because it's still horror, it's, uh... a hot dog! Makes you gag, but topped with the best thing in the world--ketchup! How come it doesn't fail? It's packaged by a bun!
I don't want to exceed my limit, but I will just say--FD is totally original, everything about it is. It grips you. You don't even care about the "flaws" (omg, Alex has gone psycho but it's no excuse to freak out about a kid he hardly knew dying!) and you just want MORE!

Summary: Ehhh....Could've been better.
Review: This movie had so much potential, but in the end it is just doesn't deliver as much as it could have. I mean the teen actors were ridiculous. Totally unbelievable. The death scenes (well most anyway) are scary because they are pretty realistic. But in the end it's a slasher film with nods at the FAR superior The Omen. But it's not to bad. The sequel is pretty lame, but the gore makes up for it.

Summary: A REAL NAIL-BITTER!!!
Review: Now this is a movie that will keep you on the edge of your seat!!!
Story: A class is going to France for a field trip. Alex (Devon Sawa) has a vision that the plan is going to explode!!! Everyone panics and him and his friends and a teacher are forced to get off the plane. It turns out that the plane explodes and now that they have cheated death, death is going to come after them!!! This film is great to watch in the dark! It has plenty of gore for you gorehounds!!!
