Summary: Interesting, but odd
Review: I'd give this more like a 2 1/2, but I rounded it down. It's kind of interesting, but it's really not the best. The "touching" through time stuff is extrememly weird... and the ending is odd, too. I thought it was going to be some kind of dream or something, but it tried to make the ending happy, but instead made it weird.

Summary: Somewhere in time updated.
Review: The Love Letter is a wonderful family movie. While the plot is a little strange, letters from the 1990s travel to the 1860s. AFter a few minutes of watching, it doesn't matter, you get enmeshed in the personalities of the two prime charecters.

What made this all the more compelling for me was that I have a hobby of collecting military medals. I then try to research the person who was awarded the medal. I many times find myself wondering what it was like during the time in question; Egypt in the 1880s, the Crimea, The North Atlantic in 1943. While there are books describing these times, I would certainly like to sit down in a coffeeshop and talk to these men and their families. This movie hit a chord with me that makes me want to add this movie to my collection.

A fine movie and excellent cast. This film should be in every familiy's library.

Summary: Unbelievably hokey and cheezy!
Review: Usually, i love Hallmark movies, but this one was very disappointing. I bought this video because of reviews I read on this site. The story line is so incredibly unrealistic and hokey that i could not even focus on the acting. I'm all for love and romance stories, but this one crossed the line. It was so predictably lame. The only entertaining thing about it was making fun of it with my friends as we watched. I feel very sad to have to give this kind of review for a Hallmark movie, but i would hate for anyone else to waste their time and money as i did. If you are in the least bit a realistic person, do not get this movie!

Summary: Another 5-star offering from Hallmark!
Review: In "The Love Letter" a young man buys an antique desk, and in a hidden compartment he finds a woman's Civil War vintage love letters. He's intrigued by them, begins to ponder them, even obsess about them, and he eventually decides to respond to them...buy posting his letters in the oldest post office in Boston (where the story takes place). Miraculously, responses from the woman to his letters appear in the hidden compartment.

A rich relationship develops through time via the desk.

You'll have to watch the movie to see what happens. But I'll say this...I happened upon this movie accidentally one night, and was captivated by it.

The premis is interesting, the acting is good (as is the acting in virtually all Hallmark offerings), and the messages are strong. Those things make this movie, for me, a 5-star offering.

Give this movie a look...you'll be happy you did!

Summary: Such a wonderful story!
Review: When I first heard about this movie I thought... "ok, this sounds like an after school special for adults." I stand corrected! My dad, of all people, told me how good this movie was and how much I would like it. It's a beautiful movie full of all the sentiment and understanding that really makes a good love story. Don't be fooled by this movie, because it's not just a chick flick!! There's some civil war action to appeal to the guys, and the story overall really makes you believe in the power of love!

Take two people, one in the 1990's and one in the 1860's. They write letters and send them to each other across time. Eventually, they fall in love. But what makes this story so neat is that at the same time, both are already in relationships (sort of). Scotty is engaged to Debra (in the 1990's), and Lizzie has agreed to consider an understanding/engagement with "his Reagle Highness". While Lizzie's father could care less about Lizzie feeling any love for Mr. Reagle, Scotty completely understands her situation and advises her to follow her heart. At the same time, Lizzie presents some trying questions to Scotty, making him question his own relationship with Debra. Continuing on, Lizzie and Scotty both run into obstacles that bring them closer together, even though they are so far apart.

Watch this one with the box of kleenex nearby, and here's a hint... listen carefully to Lizzie's last letter to Scotty. It's so important when you get to the last scene!

Summary: Loved it, loved it, loved it!
Review: What a great romantic movie! Sort of like Somewhere in Time, but a whole lot better. There were sad parts, and I didn't see how it could have a happy resolution, but the end tied everything up perfectly (in terms of the people, the plot, AND the universe!). Wonderful! And surprise, surprise, my husband liked it too (and he's about as romantic as an old shoe). Buy this!

Summary: This is so ironic for me.
Review: The Love Letter is so special to me. Since I met Michael on the internet back in May of this year, I can absolutely relate to this story. Michael is from England and I am from the USA. At times, we would type the same things and/or have the same feelings about something. We both realized we were in love when a couple of weeks after meeting, something went wrong with my computer and we had to be apart for a few days. I thought of Michael so much & I couldn't believe how much I missed him. It was like I was being pulled towards him for some reason. I couldn't wait to get back on the computer & send him a message to tell him I missed him. I actually sent him 3 messages & asked him to please get back to me as soon as he could. I didn't have to wait very long for him. He told me he missed me too. He also told me that he loved me. I couldn't believe he actually felt the same way I did. After he told me he had feelings for me, I opened up to him & told him I was in love with him too. We not only sent messages to each other but we heard each other's voices on voice chat. Not long after that, I was laying on my couch one morning & the apartment was quiet. I didn't have the television on or the radio. Michael & I had talked on voice chat earlier & I was laying there thinking of what we talked about, when I heard him say "Hey!" I layed there thinking how could I have heard him! I looked at the computer wondering how could he still be talking to me! We had closed the voice chat earlier! So, I got up and came to my computer & I couldn't believe what I saw! He was sending me an instant message & I told him that I had just heard him say "Hey!" He told me to scroll up and read the first word. I did & it was "Hey!" We both knew there was something very special between us! A few days later, I was in the shower & I could feel his presence! It was like I lost control of myself. I knew he was there with me! I have felt his touch many, many times since then. Most of the time, it's very intense. Other times, it's on the mild side. I can also tell when his presence leaves me because this feeling that comes over me gradually subsides. It can last can last anywhere from 20 minutes to about 45 minutes. I can usually tell when something isn't right, like he's been interupted by something or someone because the feeling gently fades away quicker than it usually does or it just isn't as strong as usual. There is no doubt in our minds that we are soul mates/kindred spirits. We both feel we must have known each other in a previous life. That would explain the mutual attraction we both felt for each other ever since we found each other. So, when he told me he saw The Love Letter on television and it reminded him of us, he not only had to tell me about it but sent me the movie. The only difference that we can see is that we are living in the same time period, unlike Scotty & Elizabeth. I just love this movie. I get so emotional every time I watch it because of what Michael & I are going through. We can really relate to The Love Letter. We wonder about the author & feel the author must have been through something similar to be able to write about this subject. Michael & I know that this can happen to someone because we are proof of it.

Summary: Refreshing, clean, delightful, and haunting.
Review: Refreshing and clean! No need to worry if your kids or your grandma walk in while it's playing. This movie shows love and life like we wish it could be. It's totally delightful and haunting as a beautiful statement of love and devotion. This movie makes us wish it were true and it almost feels like it is. DON'T MISS IT! Have a box of Kleenex handy - you'll need it.

Summary: Unbelievably great
Review: I was searching the web to buy the VHS - to my surprise I found another version of this same movie. I have seen The Love Letter with Elisabeth Shue, not Jennifer Jason Leigh. (Has anyone watched the version w/ Elisabeth Shue?) I am sure after reading all the reviews that it is THE SAME movie. I watched it alone, so nobody saw the tears in my eyes at the end. I was mostly impressed by the end of the movie - when the poems actually went to print! I am a poetess and I was immensely inspired by the movie - I wrote the best poem of my whole life after watching it. Being also a script-writer I appreciated every single detail of the movie. Thankx to the guy who came up w/ this very original story.
