Review: I confess; I am a wrestler and that probably biases me slightly. No matter, I love this movie. My wrestling coach showed our team this movie my sophomore year in high school, and I have loved it ever since. Truly, before I seen this movie I thought no one understood how we felt--the feeling of sacrificing so much and receiving so little in return. The blood, sweat, and tears (literally) that came along with such a demanding sport, along with the joy, comradery and lasting friendships developed through sweat all come together in this movie. There are dozens of football, basketball, and baseball movies, but now we have something to call our own. Something we can watch that reminds us of how we used to be. If you have ever worked hard or sacrificed for anything in your life, you should not only understand this movie, but should love it.

Summary: As close to a perfect movie as one can be...
Review: ...and I was not a wrestler -- in fact, I rather disliked the sport growing up! What makes this one of the greatest movies, besides the brilliant casting, directing, music and of course, acting; is the way it moves your emotions. If you don't feel complete euphoria after watching this film, you don't have a pulse either. Call it a cult classic, or a relic of the past -- however it gets categorized -- it will go down in history as an inspiring, true-to-life portrayal of youth and passion and the quest for success. Not a single scene in this movie is flawed or unbelievable -- a truly remarkable...yes...masterpiece.

Summary: A truly excellent film
Review: On the surface, this is the story of a high school wrestler. But the story goes so much deeper. While I, like many others, were drawn to this movie because of the wrestling theme, I found it to be an amazing story about growing up, and about life as a teenager in America. The book was better, but the film takes you through a full range of emotions and leaves you feeling good at the end.

Review: 'Vision Quest' is a brilliant film for two reasons. The character of "Louden Swain" as portrayed by Matthew Modine captures the raw power and motivation to attain his ultimate goal. Swain is a man who will stop at nothing to lose thirty pounds to wrestle Brian Shute. Many people who have never wrestled appreciate this film for it's honest portrayal of youth and inspiration. I as a wrestler appreciate the presence of brutalness and pure pleasure that Louden exemplifies for his wrestling. Harold Becker who has directed films like "Malice" and "City Hall" knows how to convey the power of wrestling in this film. Most wrestlers will be appalled at the inaccuracies of scoring and unrealistic moves used in the film. But, this is Hollywood is you want to see a real match go see one. "Vision Quest' is for now and will always be a cult classic to every person that appreciates the sport. Let's be happy wrestling at least has a film this well done to portray the excitement of this incredible sport.

Summary: Possibly Modine's Best Performance
Review: I wouldn't describe myself as the type that is maniacal about a certain actor, but I think that Matt Modine is as good as they come. This all comes despite the fact that he plays a variation of the same character in almost all of his films (i.e. a smart-aleck who has a sensitive side). Vision Quest offers the trials and tribulations of a love-sick teen wanting to be a hero. Sure, the boy-meets-girl, boy-loses-girl story has been used before, but what makes this film underrated is that the viewer can totally believe Modine is an introspective virgin yearning for his dreams to be realized. Great '80s soundtrack featuring a fledgling Madonna singing "Gambler" and "Crazy for You."

Review: I love this movie because of two reasons 1. Matthew Modine's body and 2. The soundtrack rocks because of Madonna, Red Rider, Journey, Foreigner, and Ex-Babys lead throat/ my favorite bad boy of 80s rock John "Missing You" Waite I think it's the perfect date movie. I'm only 21 and you're all thinking why the hell she likes an 80s movie like "Vision Quest" BTW, John Waite was on "Paper Dolls" in late '84 and his hit "Missing You" was #1 Stateside Peace & Love, Rosie

Review: I had never even heard of the novel "Vision Quest," much less read it. And since I just saw the film, that fate has been forever sealed. Sweet but simple Louden Swain is a wrestler on the local high school team. His goal in life is to beat the rival school's top member. Then a beautiful, older, realistic young woman named Carla boards in his house and the young infatuated Louden finds himself having deeper thoughts and aspirations -- like being a gynecologist in outer space! The film just goes through the motions in typical eighties fashion, especially with the laughably predictable ending. Luckily, both stars would go on to do better things.

Review: The wrestling part was decent but the rest seemed rather forced, as tho its only purpose was to give it a veneer of what's socially accepted. Which ended up hamstringing the movie. And Louden's buddy...gimme a break! The book was far better. The screenwriters veered to much away from the book and made the non-wrestling part dumb and boring. "Hi! I'm Louden Swain and i'm just another airhead who licks up the spit of the status quo just like everyone else...So what i kicked Chute's butt..that was just to cover up how lame i am..." You're better off reading the book. At least it had some degree of reality to it.

Review: Not exactly an acadamy award winner, but a "cult classic" for anyone who ever wrestled in high school. Great soundtrack with Red Rider, Journey, and John Waite (not to mention an appearance by a young Madonna). Arguably Matthew Modine's best movie other than Full Metal Jacket and perhaps best of all, this movie was the first big screen appearance for Linda Fiorentino (totally hot!)
