Summary: What a nightmare!
Review: The music, nerve jangling. The movie, absolutely one of the WORST pieces of trash I have ever seen. It is beyond my comprehension how people could like this movie. It moved at a snails-pace and the actors looked as if they were sleepwalking through the entire film. I didn't like or feel empathy for any character in the film. It was just too weird with too much going on! I've liked some of Kubricks films, but not this one. People are just making a big fuss over it because he's dead.

Summary: Excellent film, but a disappointing DVD
Review: I just picked this up because I saw the film over the summer and was stunned by it. The DVD, however, contains that CGI changes that forced the film into an R rating. In addition, it isn't even widescreen. It seems like Warner Brothers has decided to go ahead and create the worst DVD possible. It's quite a disappointment. Don't get me wrong, the film's incredible, and I look forward to watchining it over and over to catch the different layers of complexity that hide behind its disturbing story. Cruise and Kidman are at the height of their acting skills (they both should have been nominated for academy awards) and the story, with the repetitions of each scene during the night and during the day, is eerie and fascinating. It also says a lot about experience and adultery and the problems they can cause in modern society.

Summary: superb...
Review: the fact that Stanley Kubrick's final swan song received a grand total of zero academy award nominations while traditional and sappy Hollywood fare like Cider House Rules cleans up with 6 noms just goes to show how out of touch the Academy is with what real cinema is.

Eyes is everything a discerning moviegoer can want in a film: intelligent, brilliantly directed and acted, flawless cinematography and art direction, and an original story that doesn't spell out its plot but rather allows the viewer to discover the film's genius.

Perhaps farther down the line people will come to realize what a superb film Eyes is and how much of a worthy finale it was for arguably the greatest director of all time.

Summary: LH
Review: I absolutely refuse to buy the "Americanized" (i.e. wimped out, censored, typical idiocy) version of this movie. If they were going to release this, they should have released the real thing. So, 5 stars for the movie, 1 star for the spineless minions that didn't have the balls to put the uncensored version of the movie on DVD.

Summary: Wrong wrong wrong
Review: You folks are nuts. Sorry, I adore Kubrick myself, but this film is just terrible and in Ameria the most beautiful photographed scene is exasperatingly mauled.

I've no doubt it might have turned out better had Kubrick had more time to tinker but in its present form, aside from his ever skillful camera direction, the film is utterly mediocre. Several scenes make the teeth grind. The acting is abominable - Nicole Kidman acting "stoned" is eerily like William Shatner.

Alas, if only the orgy were intact it might be worth a look but as is, your money is better spent elsewhere.

Summary: Widescreen v. Full Screen
Review: O.K. - all of you people complaining about WARNER being responsible for not releasing Kubrick's final film in Widescreen - IT WAS KUBRICK'S DECISION. If you know abything about his filmaking - since The Shining, Kubrick has shot his films in a way that did not require them to be tranferred to widescreen upon being released on video - did you notice on the Warner re-issues that only The Shining and Full Metal Jacket were not widescreen? The Shining was the first movie Kubrick made during the home video explosion and he was smart in making his movies so that widescreen tranfers were not necessary (waaaaay ahead of his time again). As for releasing the cut version of the movie - I am disappointed with Warner especailly considering that films like American Pie, Crash, Damage and other "sexually charged" films have been released in two versions or with the option to watch either version within one DVD. Warner should have known better in this case and get a big "shame on you" for that. Otherwise the film is a nice finale to a great career. Not Kubrick's best, but a movie, like all Kubrick movies that can be studied shot by shot forever.

Summary: good work by kubrick
Review: This movie is tedious. Never-the-less, the camera angles, lighting, directing and acting make this movie worth while. After watching, I thought about it for hours. Which is the sign of a good movie (in my opinion). This movie was very well acted, and the character's motivation was clear. Even though the story's a bit off center.

Summary: An incredible job of making sex BORING
Review: Besides boring, the characters were so unlikeable that you wanted someone to enter the scenes and just slap them. Yeah, this was Kubrick's last movie, but it goes to prove that even good directors can make real bombs.

Summary: EYES WIDE SHUT
Review: Kubrick's last film does have some merit as far as story line with special emphasis on a suspensful plot. However, the chemistry between Nicole and Tom is virtually nonexistant. They really seem to do better with their performances apart from each other. The middle of the film is filled with mystery and intrique and will hold your attention. The story is based on a surrealistic theme of immoral sex and debauchery and if you can overlook the disappointing climax and wade through the scenes in which Tom and Nicole overact, you will enjoy the film. This is definitely not for children 17 or younger but a non prudish wife could enjoy it with you!

Summary: Not a mainstream movie
Review: I have appreciated every film made by Kubrick. Some I loved on first viewing, others took longer to appreciate. Eyes Wide Shut caught me on first viewing. I couldn't stop thinking about this movie for days after seeing it. I felt like my life had become a dream.

Eyes Wide Shut is not for everyone. This film is art, and some will be captivated and others will not. If you aren't looking for a challenging film, this probably will not be to your tastes.
