Summary: Worthless
Review: Well, I was warned about this film, but I had to waste my money at Blockbuster. If you are the type of viewer who enjoys films that make no sense, go no where, and every incident dipicted is never referred to and means absoulutely nothing to the ending, this is the film for you. This film will provoke your thoughts alright, WONDERING WHAT IN THE WORLD YOU'VE BEEN WATCHING THAT YOU ACTUALLY SPENT MONEY ON! Reviewers who claim that one needs to view the film several times in order to understand it, need to get a life. If you just want to view a good film that leaves you satisfied with the reason why certain things happened, you must go elsewhere. The only good thing I saw in this film was Nicole Kidman's dainty back side, and that only lasts a few seconds.

Summary: Skip it!
Review: One word sums this movie. STUPID. For all those who liked this movie and said that it was "thought provoking, brilliant, fascinating, etc.". You all need to go to therapy or be a guest star on Roger Ebert & Friends. The only thing that kept my attention to this complete waste of time was the $4.32 that I gave to Blockbuster.

Summary: Shame about US censorship
Review: Rather a pity that the US reviewers think the American public such children: the R1 disc seems to contain a number of mysterious men in long dark cloaks standing around during the orgy scenes. These peculiar intruders are absent from the European edition. Die-hard Kubrick fans and dribbling pervs who own multi region machines may wish to purchase the R2 disc. Note that the film is not widescreen anamorphic. Bit of a shame but Stan knows best

Summary: Open your eyes...do you see the world as it is?
Review: This movie is a Masterpiece. If you don't see that, buy it and watch it several times. With every viewing you will see more...

"Eyes Wide Shut" is about perception. It is intended to make us look at our self-concept as well as our (personal) image of the world...and question it.

The 'slow' pace is essential...there is so much to see and grasp.

The orgy scene, despite all the nudity, is completely un-erotic. It is disturbing and that is what makes it so powerful.

The cinematography is breathtaking. Watch it once without sound, just for the 'play' on colors.

Listen to the dialogue, stop the movie, and take time to think (DVD is great for that).

If you still don't get it, you are a lost cause for humanity.

Summary: Open Eyes
Review: Several things about this film sticks out. First, I enjoyed it more than I expected. Second, throughout the whole film I constantly thought will happen next?" which is the sign of an interesting film for me.

I enjoyed the eerie nature, the overall dark tones. Kubrick uses what I call "space" or "silence" in this film which adds to the uneasiness of the viewer. Example: Tom Cruise's scenes with corpses.

There are also a few things I did not like such as, Nicole Kidman's performance, the obviously English actors sliding in and out of American accents. Sidney Pollack, who is usually a nice light addition to any film he's in, doesn't hold up well here. There's nothing light about this film nor his character, he seemed misplaced. The hype surrounding the orgy scene was unwarranted. Even with the digitally altered states, I didn't see anything overly provacative about it. Much ado about nothing.

The film left a few questions. First, why did it take 18 months to make this film? What happened to the Jennifer Jason Leigh role and if it weren't cut out, how many more hours would the film have been?

My best friend and I watched the film together and her response was "I felt like there was more to the movie that was never explained." That's exactly what kept my attention...when would Kubrick explain the questions? He never does.

Films which do not wrap everything up in a nice little bow are always more interesting. For those who'd rather have a pretty ending , rent "Notting Hill."

Summary: You think you're smart...
Review: Well then this is the movie for you. Go have a ball withit...it'll keep you talking for hours about how powerful it was, howmoving, how thought provoking... Then, once you've reasoned it out, rationalized in your mind why the film deserves to have taken up so much celluloid that would have served us better as "Con Air" sequels, explain to the world, or why you are giving it five stars.

Here's what I say this film is about, and why I give it 1 star (for technical brilliance alone).

A happy couple decides that they despise each other, want an affair, then love each other and want to work things out (or rather, f---) all in 24 hours.

Just because Kubrick made 2001 and Barry Lyndon doesn't mean he's flawless, and just because you went to film school doesn't make you a critic. In the end, this movie will be forever remembered as a mindless, juvenile sex romp and, I am deighted to say, will never rank among the classics.

Review: Another great movie that brings out intense emotions. Unfortunately, the US edition is censored. Will not buy until the Australian uncensored edition becomes available.

Summary: Watch It Again And Again
Review: The best movie of the year! Kubrick gets performances from Tom Cruise and Nic Kidman that far exceed anything they've ever done. Soundtrack is really wonderful. I watch the movie again and again. And I would recommend watch this movie repeatedly, because, as with all of Kubrick's films, they simply get better the more you view them.

I simply love this film. But this VHS tape still not available in Russia. So I was forced to buy an illegal VHS copy from a street seller for $2.5. The copy is not good but contains the orgy scene.

Summary: An Excellent Piece of Art about Identity and Sexuality
Review: Let me first say this is NOT a story. It's a series of symbolic events, its not meant to make plain sence. I really liked this movie, and it's so great because it could easily have been made wrong or too extreme. The only movie that I think is comparable to it is David Lynch's Lost Highway, even though this movie has its very own atmosphere. A terriffic end for Stanley Kubrick.

Summary: Close Your Eyes
Review: This movie was nothing but hype. The acting was awful, especially Nicole. The orgy scene was so boring and it was very sexist, showing only female bodies. Save your money.
