Rating: Summary: Abre Los Ojos on Steroids Review: Tom Cruise & Cameron Crowe have taken the script from the award-winning Spanish film 'Abre Los Ojos', tweaked, embellished, deepened and added even more dimension and energy to it. If you're into the more thought-provoking aspects of movies like 'The Matrix', 'Blade Runner' 'Dark City' and 'The 13th Floor', you'll love strapping yourself in for this 2hr and 25 minute rollercoaster ride. Tom's performance is amazing, Cameron Diaz is terrific, and Penelope Cruz is absolutely riveting.
Rating: Summary: Vanilla Sky: Good Flick Review: just saw it 2 hours ago. Whoever wrote this plot is a genius and has very good imagination. Very good plot twists, makes you think. I Recommend it.
Rating: Summary: Vanilla Sky Review: This was by far one of the worst movies I have ever wasted 2.5 hours of my time on. What is worse, there were other people in the theatre wasting their time also. I am not sure what to say about this movie, except DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME or anyone elses. If you invite someone to go see this movie with you, they will probably not go to anymore movies you suggest to see. (EVER AGAIN) Sorry Tom and Penelope but I would have thought you could have done better than that.
Rating: Summary: Wanted to die Review: This is the worst movie I have ever seen. Really not worth any comments except it is nothing like the preview and will bore you to tears.
Rating: Summary: Better than I thought! Review: I really like this movie, great performances with a twist of an ending. One of the fall's best movies with top-notch filmmaking by Cameron Crowe and probably one of Tom Cruise's best performance since "Jerry Maguire" or "Magnolia". This film is definitely not for everyone and is worth seeing if you're looking for a smart, complicated drama and most of the things that happen in the film are not what they seem.
Rating: Summary: Bizarre, but in a good way! Review: I literally saw Vanilla Sky just several hours ago, and I knew after seeing it that I had to recommend it to other movie-goers. The movie was VERY well done; adjectives that pop to mind to describe it include different...bizarre...unsettling, but all in a positive manner. While it was confusing in some parts, and even though I am still trying to make sense of certain elements of it, I love it -- it was 2 hours and 15 minutes in a world seemingly similar to ours, but with a sense of something being "off". For those people who like neat, clear-cut, cookie-cutter movies, this is NOT the movie for you -- it has twists and turns, and some things don't necessarily make sense at the end, nor are they supposed to...every viewer is going to have his or her own interpretation. If that bothers you, you might want to stick to a more predictable movie. From previews and interviews I saw prior to the release of the movie, I had created my own idea of what the movie's plot was about, and I'll be honest -- I completely missed the mark! This is a movie that keeps you guessing and wondering where it's going next...in the same vein as The Sixth Sense and The Others, there's no way for you to guess correctly where the ride will ultimately end. Be warned, though -- it's a movie that will make you think. You will not get the full effect by just sitting in your seat and letting your mind go on auto-pilot. Also, you will definitely want to see it with a friend -- after it ends, you will want someone with whom you can discuss the movie's plot and implications. If you like movies that stimulate your mind and force you to look at even your own life and culture in a different way, I highly recommend Vanilla Sky.
Rating: Summary: Ewwww..... Review: This was the worst movie I have ever seen. The promotions were completely misleading. Don't believe their lies, stay away!! The whole thing is like a nightmare. Someone please tell Cameron Crowe to go back to romantic comedies, for the love of God.
Rating: Summary: Tom Cruise pulls it off Review: So far the people I know of who didn't like this movie claim it was confusing and had no clear answer at the end. My husband and I had no problem with the ending because a character is provided to thoroughly explain the movie at the end and does a great job. I felt Tom Cruise, as angry as I am at him for leaving his family, did do some good acting. Cameron Diaz and Penelope Cruz don't do much for me; cute, adorable, sexy, but shallow. Why does Cruise surround himself with these little girls? But I digress. Overall, the movie is worth seeing, is very entertaining, keeps you thinking and wondering, but ends up making sense thanks to a lengthy explanation at the very end and the use of sci-fi. Great camera work and some humorous banter.
Rating: Summary: love, death and one of the best movies of the year... Review: Don't listen to these guys about VANILLA SKY not living up to the hype. actually, there right. IT'S BETTER!! If you have ever been in love, if you have ever wondered what love might be like or even if you have warded it off for eternity, this film is for you. it questions not only how deep our love lasts in this lifetime, but how long it lasts for eternity. i know that i am a romantic at heart, but i am also a filmmaker. and being such i can tell you that this film is one of the best of the year. in the year of jurassic park III and scary movie II, be glad someone (cameron crowe) is out there making quality films that actually mean something to the human spirit. Do me a favor, call your lover, your boyfriend, girlfriend, husband or wife. hell, call upon yourself even. all i ask is that you go see this movie with someone you love. feel what absolute joy is like...enjoy!
Rating: Summary: Watch out you could get fooled! Review: The movie is a remake of Abre Los Ojos which stars Penelope Cruz and another really cute actor playing the Cruise role. I think the first one was a bit better, yet harder to grasp. This movie is definatly much richer in style and color. If you appreciate well made movies with lots of visual imagery this might be your favorite. The Spanish version seems to involve more of my feelings than the remake. This movie mainly filled me with suspense as opposed to deeper emotions. Lets see, the music track is good and sometimes fits with the scenes, sometimes it doesn't but it might just be the reason they did it that way. I think the movie was trying to mix everything up so it would be very confusing. The ending was a bit of a disappointment because everything seemed to get spelled out so the audience would have closure, but was it really the truth?? I don't think so, remember the first shot of the movie was Cruise having a dream and waking up to Julie. Remember the clock was saying Abre Los Ojos or Open Your Eyes, this was being said by Penelope Cruz's character, how could she being saying this in his dream if he had never met her yet??? Consider that this whole explanation at the end could all be untrue, than you can still be unsure as to what is a dream and what isn't. Was the beginning also a dream??? Well, the movie is unsettling and could disturb some viewers. Definately not a typical Cruise film, or Crowe film for that matter, much more art film fare. More like Kubrick's film with Cruise. Cruise may be taking a turn with his acting, branching out from big blockbuster action pictures to a more enlightening type of movie. At any rate it requires a viewer to be able to handle some pretty surreal scenes and frustration in trying to figure out whats going on. Hang in there, I think the movie has alot to say, just don't be fooled. Oh, also the acting by Cruise and Diaz really stands out. Cruz seemed to be portrayed as the sweet little girl, which seems to be her usual, except for Blow, where she really did a smash up job of acting. Jason Lee acts the same as he usually does just with a bit more edge than usual. Cruise really gets into his character and makes him work and Diaz does a great job as a swinger turned love-obsessed addict! Overall, a pretty worthwhile film. Lisa Nary
