Rating: Summary: KAFKA Review: If Kafka was an optimist he might have produced vanilla sky. Those who pay attention to the movie will not be confused, or dissapointed by the movie. The movie is best explained as a mental journey or a thought experiment , on what would happen if God had a nightmare that he could not wake up from. Tom cruise was excellent and should be applauded for taking such an unconventional role.
Rating: Summary: A movie that you'll enjoy at home but not at a movie theater Review: I give this movie 5 stars for its storyline and its twists and turns, but it was so frustrating sitting through this movie that towards the end I just wanted it to end. However, when the final twist came it all made sense, even though I know that I will pick up more the next time I see it. This movie seemed to borrow a little bit from Sixth Sense but with more of a sci-fi twist. I loved the movie for how it made me think and doubt what I was thinking. It made me look at the obvious and disregard it. People have said that this movie is horrible, I just think that this movie is so different that all people can say is that it is bad. Tom Cruise gives an excellent performance in this movie along with Cameron Diaz who plays a stalking female pretty good. You may want to wait till it comes out on video to fully enjoy it or else you may struggle in the movie theater with this one, but if you enjoy the type that keeps you guessing until the end, then Vanilla Sky is a good movie to see.
Rating: Summary: Do not bother to see this movie Review: One of the worst movies I have seen. I would have walked out in the middle had I not been with other family members. This is an example of how not to make movies. In addition to a foolish plot, the movie has no other production values. The photography is poor, uneven, and the film stock they have used is cheap. Hope Tom Cruise makes better choices in the future.
Rating: Summary: don't be fooled Review: Don't be fooled by what other reviewers say. I do not like Tom Cruise, never have and never will, but I actually liked him in this movie. I think it wasn't because of his acting but because of the supporting cast, they did what they were supposed to do. Cameron Diaz scared the hell out of me, Penelope Cruz made the audience fall in love with her, and Tom Cruise made us pity him. The trailers and previews for the movie are definately not what the movie is about, but it was an awesome movie. If you like plot twists, romance, and just being awed then go see the movie. No one can possibly sway you into seeing except for yourself. Judge it for yourself, I actually liked it.
Rating: Summary: exhillerating Review: finally a big hollywood movie that respects its audience. cameron crowe has taken an audacious and mind bending story, added his flair for great dialouge and rich characterazations to make a truly fantastic movie. it has the robust visuals, uptempo atmosphere, and generaly larger than life feel that american audiences expect but it also has the delicate surrealism that can only be found in isolated pockets of international cinema and certainly no where in american product
Rating: Summary: Creative, finally. Review: I think that most people who did not like this movie, must like movies that are simple and predictable, like most Hollywood Flicks. Movies that make you think and that are not always Good Guy, Bad Guy, Good Girl, Bad Girl, etc. scare people. I compare this movie to movies that are studied in film classes across America. Thankfully, Some directors, producers, and actors think the general public are ready for a mind intriquing movie, and not just your typical flick. I was ready to be confused, altered, surprised, outwitted, and pulled altogether at the end for an "UH-HUH, now I get it". To me, a sign of a good movie is one that you think about after you leave the theatre. Well, I'm still thinking about it.
Rating: Summary: Save your money Review: First you take Tom Cruise and scar his face for a third of the movie, then you show him in a ridiculus mask for another third and hope he will get by on his acting talent. Second, you take a hot chick like Cameron Dias and make her play second fiddle to a talentless little woman with no appeal whatsoever, sexual or otherwise, and hope the audience will buy that. (Well, he did leave Nicole for her!!) Finally, you tell a tale so ridiculus that no one can really explain it to someone else. Vanilla Sky is an abomination. Dont waste you money.
Rating: Summary: I actually saw it again :-) I loved it. Review: This my contain spoilers :-) Now, I usually don't see movies in the theatre over. I am an extremely cheap person. It has to be really good for me to look at it over again. When I saw it the first time with my friends I was shocked at the ending and I just didn't get it and I hate feeling that way even though they sought of explained it all at the end.(...) I thought some parts of the movie were extremely funny. One part of movie when he was in the club bathroom and those guys came in said something to him. Which I won't say because it had profanity in it, and me and friend laughed so much people started to look at us. I am a silly person so it's easy for me to laugh. I HIGHLY recommend this movie for anyone to see. It's serious, very funny, sad and confusing, but it's worth looking at. (...) Not everybody is going like something, and I respect other people's opinions. One of the main reasons why I saw this movie was because Tom Cruise is one of my favorite actors and it looked great in the previews. Also I loved the music in the movie especially in the beginning in his dream. GREAT MOVIE.
Rating: Summary: The previews should have come with a warning. Review: After watching this movie, one thought immediately came to mind. What the hell were these actors thinking? This is the absolute worst Cameron Crowe film I have ever seen. After "Almost Famous" we get this crap?! This movie just got too confusing between dreams vs. reality, and they waited too long to reveal their suprise ending. Not only that, but the "suprise" turned out to be as confusing as the rest of the movie. Some suprise endings work with the rest of the movie and make you want to view the movie again (think "The Sixth Sense" or "The Others"). However this ending just seemed to be pulled out of thin air. Tom Cruise was never able to rise above his movie star persona and there was no chemistry between Tom and Penelope (ironic huh?). And while she may be a pretty face, Penelope Cruz cannot act. Cameron Diaz had a good grasp on her role, but she was hardly even in the movie. The only decent actor in the movie was Jason Lee, as Tom's best friend. Maybe if I watched the movie again, I'd understand it more, but I don't want to put myself through that again. Worst movie of 2001.
Rating: Summary: Dont pay money to see this thing called a movie! Review: This movie is impossible to explain, let alone understand. The movie has much sexual content, definatly not for kids and young teens. All I knew was it was a story of a man who sleeps with a stalker, and meets another girl after that. The stalker becomes angry, and gets him in a car with her. She then drives it off the road. She dies, but he lives. on the downside, his face is ruined. From there on he dates the other girl, and starts seeing the dead girl unexpectadly. Definatley the worst movie ever made, and I feel sorry for anyone who sees it. Save yourself some money and missery!
