Summary: fantastic lynchian rollercoaster ride
Review: If you like the surrealism of David Lynch films and you are ready to engage and surrender yourself to this movie, you will thank me later. The key is you need to be a person who doesn't lose interest when confusing movie sequenses occur. Go with the flow of the movie, let it dazzle, confound and thrill you. The sound track is one of the best I've heard since Lock Stock & two smoking barrels.
This twilight zone style plot can be compared to many a lynch film with one major difference: He wraps everything up at the end so that although there is still plenty to talk about, you have the nature of what happened in the movie explained to you. It's a nice change in that I'm still trying to figure out what happend in Lost Highway.
I was overwhelmed and speechless for at least and hour after seeing this movie, just soaking it all in. Exciting and emotionally draining, I think this is a wonderful movie that everyone should take a look at. For all the guys reading this: Even if you hate this movie Cameron Diaz and Penelope Cruz will help you make it to the end. I can't believe that it is not up for any oscars..

Summary: Please... don't waste your time, or brain cells watching.
Review: I've never been so lost, and so upset about watching a movie. Vanilla Sky starts out as an interesting movie, depicting the spoiled life of a rich little playboy. Cameron Diaz probably does her best acting in this film, and it's a shame it has to be attached to such a piece of garbage.

After Diaz's character runs her car off a bridge, it all goes downhill. We're thrown into a myriad of explanations of what's happened to Cruise's character, and we're never sure whether what's taking place is real or dreamed. The second half of this movie is so convoluted, and so pointless, it's sad. The movie started with a little promise, especially knowing we'd be treated to one-liners from co-starring Jason Lee. However, this becomes a train wreck of a movie, and great actors like Kurt Russell, Penelope Cruz and Lee are wasted. Instead, we're treated to a bizarre trip through the possibilities of what's become of Cruise's character's mind and body. Why the makers of this film thought people would be attracted to such a mess is beyond me. You'll be left with so many questions, and so many "Why?"'s, it's not funny. This might be the worst movie I've ever seen.

Please, please, please, please don't watch this.

Summary: Quite Possibly the Greatest Movie I Have Ever Partaken In
Review: This movie is undboutedly the most powerful, if not the greatest movie I have ever seen.... then your mind will be blown by this absolute masterpiece. It simply covers all bases and is absolutely gorgeous. If you have half a brain you will be completely riveted throughout this bit of perfection, and then left feeling extremely drained and shaken up at how truly amazing his movie is.

Thank you Cameron Crowe for giving the world a movie that is truly perfect.

Summary: The Most Underrated Film Of The Year
Review: "Open your eyes."

And thus begins the most wild film of the year and one of my favorite films of all time. Vanilla Sky, a remake of a film called Open Your Eyes, places Tom Cruise, a man who takes everything for granted, and places him something he can't control. A throwback to films like The Game, the character has no control over anything and anything goes. But, also in the tribute of Jacob's Ladder and Psycho, the ending will suprise you. The performance by Cameron Diaz was Oscar-Worthy and the screenplay should have been nominated. The film is very good and one of the only films that I like and the critics hate. Please, see Vanilla Sky and Open Your Eyes. Both are very good.

Summary: Brilliant
Review: Vanilla Sky was by far my favorite film of 2001. The movie is essentially about the main character's psychological development as he moves away from his callous and hollow lifestyle to a more enriching existence, even though he gives up nearly everything he had previously thought was important. The story follows classic mythological lines with an extremely well done and literate subtext of the emergence of the unconscious (See Carl Jung or maybe Erich Neumann if you don't get what's happening). The typical Crowe touches of brilliant soundtrack, gentle and touching love story, witty humor in the right places only heighten the experience. He transforms a good sci-fi thriller with no thematic push (abre los ojos/open your eyes) into a rich movie with equal parts mystery, thriller, love story, mind-bender, and sci-fi story about the nature of being human and making decisions with your life. I loved every second of it and can't wait for the extra features. And finally, after seeing the movie three times now, I must say that the first act plant was done brillianty. Wilder would be proud of CC.

Summary: Tried to be "Artsy"
Review: When you try to hard to make an"artsy" film it just comes off lame. This was the first movie I've been to where nearly everyone in the audience could be heard to say, "what the hell is going on?", ...." so is that really happening, or is a dream?" and at the end most everyone said "whatever..." and shook thier heads...

Summary: The mind is a powerful thing....
Review: I did not see 'Abre Los Ojos', so I watched this movie with no other in mind to compare it with. That said, I really loved this film! The unsettling opening scenes hooked me completely! Many people have tried to explain this film though their reviews, and almost everyone understands it in a different way, so I will not add my own description. Let me just say that it is, among other things, a sad, scary, hopeful story of one man's understanding of his life.
Tom Cruise displays the same manic energy he has in most of his other films, most notably 'Jerry Maguire' (another Crowe film), and 'A Few Good Men'(The "galactically stupid" speech). There are times when I really hated David Ames, but that was probably the point. :)
Cameron Diaz is very good, her beauty and vivaciousness superbly twisted into something frightening. Jason Lee, Penelope Cruz and Kurt Russell are a welcome relief when David Ames starts to get a bit wierd, hiding his damaged psyche behind his mask. Kurt Russell is wonderful as the psychologist looking for truth, especially when he finds it.
If I had to explain this to someone, I would say this; imagine if a beautiful David Lynch film had characters you actually liked, and (almost) everything was explained at the end.
Go see this film on it's own terms. Let yourself be unsettled.

Summary: ¿The Game¿ & ¿Fight Club¿
Review: Rule number one: "Watch this movie once and for all." Because if you did not concentrate in the first time you watch it you won't understand it and you'll ruin the movie for youself!

This movie reminded me of both "The Game" & "Fight Club". The story goes too far beyond reality to an extent that you get DISTURBED! But the end manages to pull all the threads back together!

The problem with this type of movies is that if you do not accept "swallow" the ending, you'll never like the movie... but I swallowed it & I liked it!

Both Cruise & Cruz did a GREAT job... personally I think one of the best "ACTING" jobs for Tom Cruise is this movie! ...

Review: It's better then you would think. Then again I paid only 4.99 to see this in the theatres and it was worth every penny. I went into it very neautrally, honestly intrigued by it's mysterious premise and considering the cost of the ticket I was ready to also be dissapointed but think nothing of it.

It's a big budget indie film, sorta like 12 Monkey's. It makes daring indie film twists and un-mainstream ways of conveying it's story. Tom Cruise proved that he can take on a challenging role and I was surprised the lengths he went through to portray himself for the artistic integrity of the film. Unfortunately I found Penelope Cruz uncomfortable on screen with him, and I couldn't help but think of Nicole Kidman the whole time, so sue me. The supporting cast of Kurt Russell and (Forgive me for not remembering his name) the best friend who is as always a great actor. He was also in Cameron Crowe's Almost Famous. Cameron Diaz was in full form, but it's not as great as her "Being John Malkovich" performance.

The movie has a few twists and turns, surprisingly funny moments. The problem I had was with the movies theme. What cruise is presented with at the end, really isn't much of a hard choice to make at all. You would think that this vain egotistic jerk turned humble freak would be given a more humble future or choice. The only problem with the ending is that it's really explanatory and doesn't leave much to discover on a second viewing. It leaves no mystery and fully explains the film's weird moments and confusing change overs. (Borrowed from our friend David Lynch of course, who never explains his weirdness)So in the end it was a daring attempt, but maybe it was too nicely packaged and didn't go far enough? Well thats for you to decide. Another thing, the ending was a bit too long, much like the over hyped "A.I., artificial intelligence" It should be edited so that Tom makes his "obvious" decision a little faster.

It's a trip worth taking, but only if your into David Lynch type films or indie films. If you liked this, take it a step further and check out Mulholland Drive. Now THAT'S a trip. :)

But please someone..teach Penelope Cruz to speak ENGLISH..her accent is So annoying...ugh.

Happy Film Watching.

Summary: Totally unexpected
Review: I loved this movie. I this movie is almost one of those you either love it or hate it type movies. I found it to be deep, emotional, suspensful, ... Most of all this movie really made me think. It's one of those movies that I will defend. I think Tom Cruise shocked a hell of a lot of people with this film. It really made me think about how we view beauty, what if I had a chance to do it all over again. I don't want to spoil for anyone who hasn't seen it, so I don't want to go into great detail. I highly recommend it.
