Summary: Looks Can Be Deceiving!
Review: I am a fan of Cameron Crowe's earlier works ("Almost Famous", "Jerry Maguire"), yet this movie was very complex and confusing.

Wealthy publisher David Aames (Tom Cruise) and Julie Gianni (Cameron Diaz), a 'f--- buddy', sleep together, which turns into a nightmare when she finds out he doesn't love her because he somewhat dumped her for shy, inhibited Sofia (Penelope Cruz). After a horrible accident involving Julie and David, strange things start to happen in his life that are out of control. David's once handsome face is disfigured and he sees Julie, who supposed to be dead, almost everywhere he turns. The ending is surprising yet predictable. A great attempt of Cameron Crowe's, but could have been better.

Summary: a multi-million dollar dubbing job for lazy Americans
Review: Why was this made? Are most members of the audience too young to have seen the original which was released WAAAAAAYY back in 1997 or were they targeting an audience who cannot read subtitles?

If you are allergic to subtitles and love American repackaging with a groovy new soundtrack (en Ingles, por favor) then this movie is for you. Buy it today, it will be a handsome addition to your movie collection which probably includes hit titles such as Point of No Return and City of Angels.

Summary: "I will tell you when were cats?" what the heck
Review: This movie was so bad, i can't even imagine why they made this movie. The only good thing in the movie was ms. Diaz she deserved her oscar nod. the movie should of had her in it more. The end of the film: Tom killed himself and he had himself frozen and its all a dream gone wrong then he wakes up.

Summary: Confusing but Compelling
Review: This is a film that makes you work! Don't hold that against it.
You will take something away with you after you have seen it. It may not be what the filmaker's intended for you to take away, but you will definatly be thinking about it for some time after.
David Aames(Tom Cruise) is a 30 something, extremely wealthy guy. He inherited everything he has from his parents who were killed in a car accident 10 years earlier. He lives in his father's shadow. The board of the business he inherits sees him for what he is, shallow and narccistic. He in turn sees them as old codgers. He has actually two true friends. One is Julie, (Cameron Diaz), who he sees as just a friend to have sex with, and the other is a Brian,(Jason Lee) who is loyal to David, but David is so self involved he really has no idea what his buddy is all about. Enter then Sofia(Penelope Cruz) who beomes the girl of David's dreams, literaly! Julie becomes hurt and jealous and takes David with her on a suicide mission. He survives, somewhat disfigured and what follows this is a bizarre sequence of dreams involving all the people in his life,(or ARE they really dreams). There are times when these dreams are nightmarish. At times we are not really sure when he is dreaming and when he is not, did he committ a murder or didn't he. You stayed glued to your seat trying to figure it out. In the end there is some explanation of the events, but then again maybe that was a dream too.
So what did I take away from this film(even if it was not what intended)? The life you lead is the life you must live with, how you treat poeple may come back to haunt you in the end, simply put what comes around goes around.
Maybe what I saw in this film will be something different for you. As of this writing there are over 500 reviews of this film with probably as many opinions of it. That is what makes this so good. It is a film to be talked about for some time. If you have already seen it, watch it again with someone who hasn't!
It was directed by Cameron Crowe and is very different from some of his other works(Jerry Magurie, Almost Famous). Cameron Diaz also in a departure from her usual roles, gives a superior performance.
If you have seen it and you liked it, you will love the DVD.It's in widescreen(anamaphoric), has the choice of dolby digital 5.1 or 2 channel, subtitles in English for those who may need it, trailers, and featurettes, which may clear some things up. Or maybe not....there is one where interviewers are asking the crew what certain scenes mean and they are not even sure!
The picture and sound quality are very good.
If you havnt seen it, it's a good one to have in your collection, as it does make a great coverstation piece for filmbuffs.
good luck! Laurie

Summary: Forget this garbage and watch the spanish version!
Review: Let me start of by saying the spanish version "Open Your Eyes" rangs in my Top 5 of best movies I've ever seen, along with "Fight Club", "Amélie", "Speed" and "10 Things I Hate About You". This english version "Vanilla Sky" rangs in my Top 5 of worst movies I've ever seen, along with "Speed 2", "The Haunting", "The Astronauts Wife" and "Armageddon". "Vanilla Sky" looks like a shot-to-shot Remake. The same dialogues, the same wings, the same actors(Penelope Cruz) and, and, and... It's so pointless, dumb and cheap. PLEASE, PLEASE, forget this pure garbage and watch the original, you'll be not disappointed.

Summary: Worst Movie 2001
Review: This was the worst movie I have ever wasted 2.5 hour of my time on. What is worse, there were other people, who wasting their time also.

I am not sure what to say about this movie, except DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME or anyone elses. If you invite someone to go see this movie with you, they will probably not go to anymore movies you suggest to see (EVER AGAIN).

Sorry. Tom and Penelope but I would have thought you could have done better than that.

Summary: Don't waste your time or money
Review: In spite of all the hype generated by the off-screen relationship between Cruise and Cruz, this film was very disappointing. I have not seen the Spanish Version, but from the other reviews, it looks like they did a very bad job with the English Version.

The story line is [bad]. Tom Cruise plays David Ames, who has everything, including Cameron Diazas a casual friend. He meets Penelope Cruz at one of his parties and immediantly falls in love with her, much to the annoyance of Diaz, who actually thinks of him as more than a 'casual' friend. In her rage, Diaz crashes her car with Cruise in the passenger seat. Cruise is disfigured, the rest of the story has lots of twists and turns that deal with how Cruise handles his disfigured life and how Cruz reacts to his disfigurement. This is as far as one can go without spoiling suspense.

Cameron Diaz is the pick of the lot with her acting and Cruise is the worst. He is totally unconvincing both before and after the disfigurement and he just shouts a lot and is totally wrong if he thought that people will mistake that for good acting. Diaz gives an even performance and she is one of the actresses who can balance the good and the evil. Cruz does not have much acting to do, she makes the most of her pretty face. Kurt Russell does his best with his small role. The direction is loose and the supposedly surprising ending generates more of a relief that the film has ended rather than a surprise.

Cruise's chemistry with Cruz and Diaz is worse than his acting. Overall, this film is a must-miss

Summary: Tired Idea All Dressed Up In New Clothes
Review: Imagine a very old and over used idea that's been done yet again - but with the most up to date film making techniques. I must admit I was absolutely hooked right up to the finish. However, I was so disappointed with the finish, it caused me to give this flick only two stars!

Tom Cruise is, as always, magnificent.

Summary: Get some taste - you people are shallow
Review: I don't see what you people are complaining about. This is an excellent film. For those of you who do not agree, perhaps you should watch it again, but you are probably more into non-intelligent films, so go watch a Vin Diesel movie or expand your narrow-minded horizons. I bet you didn't like Fight Club either, did you?
