Summary: Understanding History
Review: I played this video for my three classes of 20th Century History and they all loved it. Perhaps it was because they were all the same age as the main characters, but this video really helped my students make a connection to the horror of the Nazi years and understand it emotionally. Great movie for teaching history which kids usually find boring and not in their time reference.

Summary: almost perfect
Review: I honestly almost gave this movie 5 stars and if it hadn't been for the sappy ending, I would have.

This movie gives me chillz, the kind that run up and down the soine, as if someone is jitterbuggin' on my grave.

Never before has Christian Bale given such a brave and bare performance, kudos to the kid who plays the crippled friend, he's got balls.

Summary: Brown Shirts and Saddle Shoes
Review: In Nazi Germany there was a cult following of American swing jazz. These rebellious counter culture youths wore British fashions, their hair long, and played their music loud. Their lifestyle and attitude stood in direct contrast to the prevailing culture of the Hitler Youth (known by its German initials as the 'HJ') This film does a good job of showing the lifestyle of the average German teenage 'swing kid'. Focusing on a small group of friends. Their constant stuggle is to enjoy their pursuits and avoid being drawn into the ever-growing HJ. Frank Whaley has the best roll as a musician and somewhat nerdish jazz expert who is determined to resist fascism no matter what, even if it means refusing to play requests of traditional German songs meant to boost soldiers morale. The Third Reich backdrop sometimes lacks the ferocity of this evil empire but the story is entertaining. Viewers the same age as the characters will probably get the most out of it.

Summary: Swing Heil!
Review: Swing Kids is a great movie with a great cast. Robert Sean Leonard and Christian Bale take us into the lives of two young boys who want to be "HJ by day, Swing Kid by night". It seems easy at first until Hitler's theories and strict order cause friends and families to turn against each other. I recommend this movie to anyone who wonders what it was like not only during World War II but what it was like to be a teenager during that time.

Summary: A Good Movie!
Review: I found Swing Kids to be a moving and touching film; while sometimes it tries too hard to be dramatic, and at points it drags on a bit, it still held my attention. In Swing Kids, the story is a bit strange, but it still works, in my opinion, because of the atmosphere and the great acting. Swing Kids is about two best friends who are torn apart during the Nazi-era; one becomes a full-blown Nazi, and the other, Thomas, wishes only for peace and justice---soon, the only thing that Thomas can rely upon is the up-beat swing music, something the Nazi's are fully against...worth checking out!

Summary: Swing Kids
Review: I have used this film in a high school Ethics class for years and it is extremely well-received by 16-17 year olds. It portrays the different ethical attitudes towards Jews, people of color, the disabled, and people who would question authority, which existed within Hitler's youth group and within much of society during World War II. The film accentuates the importance of critical thinking as well as doing what is right whatever the cost. Swing Kids promotes a valuable lesson for life. It touches the soul, the conscience, and the human capacity to make a diffence through valiant acts of courage. Teenagers were moved by the power of this film and so was I! A "must see!"

Summary: A Good Movie, But The Ending Was Way Too Corny!
Review: I saw this movie late last year, unfortunately I did not tape it. However, I purchased the movie from z-shops, the other week. It is a good film, with good acting performances all-round. It also managed to capture the atmosphere of 1939 Hamburg, under the National Socialist regime and showed how hard it was for the those amongst Germany`s youth who went against the prevailing Nazi flow. Because, make no mistake, the Hitler Youth membership accounted for 90% of German males aged between 14 and 18 years of age, by 1939. So, it would have been extremely hard for teenagers to resist the Nazi propaganda that was prevalent in all corners of 1939-German society. Swing Kids was all in all a good film, though the ending was far too corny for my tastes, been a 23 year old male. However, I would highly recommend it too anyone with an interest in those times, especially teenagers!

Summary: Swing Kids: A Swinglover's Delight
Review: I thought Chrisitan Bale and Robert Sean Leonard were good. It had some really good scenes. I was really interested in seeing their Hitler Youth training and just how much propaganda there was. It's not often something you see.

I really liked the movie. The dancing was superb. Leonard and Bale look really hot after they're been given a haircut. Noah Wyle is also hot. (As Usual)

I agree the ending was a bit chessy. I mean I wouldn't have had all that slow motion junk ,but over all it was a cool movie.

The music is great. One of my favorite parts is when Eley first goes to the swing club and Peter spots her. I jsut think it's so cute how he signals her with his hands to come over. They also look great dancing together.

It's definately "A movie not to be missed".

Summary: Swing Kids: Just a good movie
Review: The movie made me want to get up ad dance. I was already very interested in Nazi Germany and swing dancing. This movie was a wonderful combination. It really has a good depiction of attitude of HJ members and of Nazis.

The end of the movie left me sad and a bit teary eyed.

It's a good movie for a rainy day or anytime you want to get up and dance.
