Summary: One of my favorites
Review: This is a spectacular movie. Angelina Jolie giving an Oscar-winning performance. The then little known Brittany Murphy also stars a bulimic at the instituion. Winona Ryder plays Susanna Kaysen well. When I sit down to watch this movie, I actually feel some of the things she is feelings. Great chick movie but depressing at times. Also, random, but I counted one day and they say the f-word about 30-something times.

Summary: "Just don't point your ****in' finger at crazy people!"
Review: A female version of One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest this may be, but it's far different, and just as emotional, if not more. With a bunch of terrific actresses, and unknowns, who light up the screen, this film is well worth watching.

Not many actresses could play the roles in this movie convincingly. Winona Ryder does a great job of the borderline-personality-disorder-ridden Susanna, although the short hair was a big no-no. She really makes you feel for her character, whether she's screaming, crying, getting it off her chest, or making you look at mental health problems a completely different. Angelina Jolie in a blonde role (biiiiiiiiiig mistake) is wonderful, although in some shots looks frighteningly skinny. She's a brilliant actress, although the dreadful blonde wig does nothing for her looks, and her lips can sometimes be distracting - the rest of us need collagen to get her kinda lips! Angelina steals the show as the charismatic "we are very rare, and we are mostly men" sociopath, making you love & hate her character at the same time. She won a well-deserved academy award for supporting actress for this role. Alongside these two brilliant actresses are: Whoopi Goldberg, Clea DuVall, Brittany Murphy (who looks quite depressing in this), Jared Leto, and Vanessa Redgrave.

I have actually read the book, I bought it not long after seeing the movie, but I couldn't really get into it. It's very different in some aspects, and the ending is somewhat different. The movie implies that Lisa never got out or Susanna never saw her again, but in the book, they do meet up again, and Lisa's had a child, and has very stretchy skin on her stomach, from what I can remember. The last scene of Lisa strapped to the bed is very moving, with the narration.

The friendships in this movie stand true, and are very emotional to watch. Sometimes, you know what you what Susanna means when she says Lisa's eyes are captivating, cos they are, and you get drawn to her almost.

One of my favourite scenes is when they all go out for ice creams - "You know, taking us for ice creams in a blizzard... makes you wonder who the real whack jobs are." This is a hilarious scene, and it has to be seen to be believed. I LOVE Brittany Murphy, she's so fixated with the ice cream cone in her face!

The extras are quite interesting on this DVD. The deleted scenes, albeit extension of scenes and overly long, are still worth watching, with an insight into exactly what is under the bandage on Lisa's arm *ouch*, and also a making of documentary. I think the commentary by director James Mangold would also be interesting to watch too, as you could find out about stuff you maybe never noticed before. I won't be watching it anytime soon though: the commentary that is.

If you haven't seen this movie, you have to see it! It's well worth seeing, and although you'll be left emotional afterwards (unless you're a cold hearted Scrooge), it's a must have for your collection. I don't really recommend the book, but that's just me. Enjoy.

Summary: boring!
Review: this is a very slow and barely interesting movie about 2 girls who supposedly bond in a home for troubled youths.the really just hang out since theres a limited amount of peers there.kids will fall asleep watching it.its boring.it looks low budget.i dont think even sentimental types will love it.the chick whose in it with wiona ryder whose not bad herself is this sexy ass sex pot named..........IT DOENT MATTER WHAT HER NAME IS!!!!!!!!!!shes sexy.she has sexy lips.which is usaualy a pretty good indicater how she got the role.then theres ol whoopi jewberg.shes outwardly racist in real life but is on the recieving end this time when wiona-whose jewish herself, makes fun of whoopis blackness after whoopi throws her into a tub.it was the funniest part.the message is no one really gets better from being in a place like that.being surrounded by terrible things will only make you terrible too.as far as ol wiona goes, this is a vpoor performance for her.the other chick stole the show all the way!most of her other movies are better than this one like beetlejuice.
