Summary: Arrrggghh!
Review: With its warm, original premise and Oscar-pedigree cast, this could have been a decent "family values" kind of movie if it wasn't sabotaged in its dying moments by an utterly pointless surprise climax and a hideously mawkish ending. It skirts self-indulgence for 100 minutes then drives full speed over the brink. But without the emotional setup this kind of ending requires, rather than weeping you'll probably be rolling your eyes. The film runs slightly long, but thankfully the performances from Spacey, Hunt and "that kid" (Haley Joel Osment) are magnificent throughout, so at least there's something interesting to look at - other than your watch. On paper, this must have looked like gold: a best-selling novel, an Academy-blessed cast, and even the music from "American Beauty". Proof yet again that films designed to garner Oscars rarely do.

Summary: Kevin Spacey & Helen Hunt Make This Movie Very Real.
Review: PAY IT FORWARD is one of those movies that leaves with a sadden but warmed feeling about life and the people around us. It touches the soul of who we SHOULD be and who we REALLY are.

Kevin Spacey shines in this film. He is passionate and emotion and comes to evolve from beginning to end. Helen Hunt is a good alcoholic mother who comes to terms with her son and her own mother played by Angie Dickenson (TV's original Police Woman). Haley Joel Osmen gives a great performance as the instigator of an idea that travels the country in good will.

Simply put this story is about how we each can 'save the world' or at least contribute something positive to it. It makes you think and the closing song "Calling All Angels" is fantastic in its sentiment and scenery when the film closes.

There is even a message on the video from Haley himself offering the opportunity to nominate the best people and teachers of the community you know. I love this movie in the theatre and even more watching it at home. 8-20-02

Summary: Closer to reality, further from Hollywood, California
Review: Though it was tough to watch at times, I really enjoyed this movie. It was full characters with large faults, and I felt that gave the story a human feel that was at times a little bit painful to watch. If you live in the suburbs, can tolerate Britney Spears(actually, visually she's quite all right), and enjoy movies where ridiculously attractive people fall in love at the end, then go watch The Wedding Planner. Haley Joel Osment was incredible, it was amazing to watch a child actor give such a great performance. This movie made me cry. I suggest you watch it.

Summary: Reiterates Christ-like message in splendid fashion.
Review: In a twist of extreme irony, it appears as if Hollywood has discovered what it is to live a pure and giving life without throwing in a religious agenda. Nicely done, Hollywood, for a change.

This film focuses on a young boy, played handsomely by Haley Joel Osment, and his view on how he can change the world. The idea is simply called, "paying it forward", instead of paying a good deed back. If someone does a good deed for another individual, it's that person's new responsibility to do good deeds for three other people, and those three people do good deeds for three more, and so on and so forth.

This is a basic Christian principle that we westerners have somewhat forgotten over the years and oh, is it so freshing to see this film echo those basic Christ-like beliefs without forcing doctrine or religious beliefs.

This film is magnificent and one that you will not easily walk away from when the end credits begin to role before your tear glazed eyes.

I highly recommend this film to all of you.

Summary: Nothing special
Review: I guess the story was decent, but it was still kinda boring. The only part of the movie I thought was that great was when the black guy (don't know his name) started yelling at the nurse to help the guy's daughter. It was pretty much the only funny part in the whole movie. The actors were pretty good (even Bon Jovi) but not enough to save a boring plotline. I thought Trevor's death was just unnecessary, and like some other guy here said, it blew the whole theme of helping people. The kid tries to help some other kid, and he gets his guts cut up. Really makes me feel like going out and changing the world.

Summary: Pay Me Back
Review: Shame on you.
For those of you who found value in this FILM.
Shame on you.
Even if you like and appreciate the basic premise of the story, that does NOT make it a good FILM.
Whereas the casting was based strictly on Oscar winnings,
the acting is startlingly wooden and contrived.
The story is basic and so dumb-downed that you almost feel like you're missing some bigger picture- but you're not. Everything from the hooker w/a heart of gold, to the teacher with an impossible past, to the reformed alcoholic, to the naively innocent hopeful child who sees only the good in the world (aside from dead people)...give me a break. This movie plays like a sermon and relentlessly beats you over the head with simplicity and judeo/christian mores that I find to be reprehensible. Take stock in the message of selflessly helping fellow man (even if you do get knifed for your troubles), but do not applaud this film for it's shameful pandering.
Kevin Spacey and the other two oscar nitwits- you owe me 2 hours of my life back or maybe I'll just pay my foot forward into your collective overpaid ...

Summary: A triumph everyone is bound to love!
Review: I wasn't sure what to expect with this movie. It doesn't seem too interesting. A boy has a class assignment to help change the world. So what?

Obvioulsy, my first impressions aren't always right. After seeing this movie, I was stunned, unable to speak because of its triumph! It's a movie that no one expects much from, but in return they receive a wonderful movie everyone can't help but smile at because of it's glory. It's cast is wonderfully selected, with Haley Joel Osment, Helen Hunt, and Kevin Spacey I don't think you can get much better. A wonderful movie you must see! It'll become a classic for sure!

Summary: Highly Underrated Movie!!!!!
Review: Once again, the critics have managed to sabotage a movie. Sometimes I wonder how they keep their jobs. This movie is absolutely wonderful and makes you think. Haley Joel Osment, Helen Hunt and Kevin Spacey did a wonderful job. It renews your faith in human kind. A 7th grader is given a social studies project and he comes up with PAY IT FORWARD, meaning when someone does something nice for you, you pay it forward 3 times. He starts by helping his teacher Mr. Simonet (Kevin Spacey), a homeless man(Jim Caviezel) and his friend Adam. And it goes from there unbeknownst to him.
It makes you think, it makes you laugh, it makes you cry. If you haven't seen this movie, drive to Blockbuster and rent it tonight. You won't be sorry......and Ebert and Roeper, try picking up trash for a living, you might be better at that.

Summary: Human drama in a Pulp Fiction format
Review: Some think the movie gets disjointed at times with the different
storylines. But it is still easy to follow and the character
developments are good.

I never thought of Helen Hunt as a sexy actress, but she did look
like a hotty mommy in this movie. If every mom were like her,
then a lot more men would become teachers instead of company
managers. She gives her usual sensitive character portrayal as
do the other two main actors.

Okay, about the ending: SPOILER WARNING:
Other reviewers were upset about it. I don't know why. How
unusual is it for a main character to die at the end of a story?
Often, a death in a story makes it more powerful even if it
leaves us feeling worse about the story. The Snow Goose by
Paul Galico has the same impact. And Trevor's death does in fact
tie things together by bringing many of the lives he touched all
together at the end. All in all, it's well worth seeing.
