Rating: Summary: A Masterpiece Review: Scent of a Woman is perhaps one of the greatest achievements in film history. Al Pacino is beyond excellence. His acting is impecable, forget about Paul Newman, Anthony Hopkins, Robert De Niro, and even the legendary Charlton Heston. This is the best performance I have ever visialized on a movie screen. A powerhouse movie that is brilliantly sculptured into perhaps one of the greatest films ever produced. Emotionally magnetic, powerfully crafted, and impecably directed.
Rating: Summary: She must have smelt bad Review: I remember the hype about this film when first it came out, and that is what it was, hype. Pacino gives a good performance as the central character: a blind ex-officer who goes to New York to end his life in style. However, this central solid performance is badly let down by the support, namely Chris O'Donnell, who is wooden. He is the young Private School boy (on a scholarship) with a moral dilemma who takes on the job of "Baby Sitting" Pacino over a holiday weekend. He is dragged to New York where he simps around, and eventually (how with his weakness of character, can he mentally overpower Pacino?) saves the day. The joy of the film is the little things, like Pacino's famous tango, and his frequent exclaimations of "Hoo-Ha!". Apart from O'Donnell's poor performance there are only 2 other things wrong with this film: the conclusion, which I shall not disclose, but which is feeble, and O'Donnell's share of the script. The supporting cast are alright, and some of them shine, but not brightly enough to shine out behind the over hanging cloud of improbability and O'Donnell. I believe that most of the films problems would have been hidden if it had developed at greater pace, and if O'Donnell had been an actor with more character, his fresh facedness cannot be over come. I am not an O'Donnell disliker by trade, but he does ruin this movie, and it is a shame as the story is good for all its fairy tale endings.
Rating: Summary: Scent of a Winner Review: If you like Al Pacino, here is his Lt. Col. Frank Slade for you. An engrossing performance, which you can enjoy more than once; a study on dispair, redemption, class and the pleasures of life. Here is Philip Seymour Hoffman eight years before he becomes THE hot actor in a wonderful performance. The Al Pacino/Gabrielle Anwar tango is worth the price of the movie. Get it and join Charlie Simms in a coming of life adventure you won't forget. Lot's of nice touches and good character acting.
Rating: Summary: A Very Pleasing Film Review: Scent of a Woman is definitely a favorite of mine. Today thereare so few characters in movies that get beyond "ho hum" fororiginality, and, love him or hate him, Colonel Frank Slade is strictly original. Pacino carries the part off with such style and charm and terror that he is truly unforgettable. The tango scene, his airplane monologue on women, the suicide scene, and his defense of Charlie are all quite brilliant and reflect some real work. As for Chris O'Donnell, have you seen this guy's work in Fried Green Tomatos or Circle of Friends? He may not be all he will become yet, but he is a fine young actor. How do you even remain noticable beside Al Pacino when your character is so understated and his is so flamboyant? The fact that you even knew his name by the end of the film says that he didn't do half bad. This is a fine film in many ways. Loved it.
Rating: Summary: Very Average&overrated Review: I have dug Al Pacino for a long time but he has made a lot of clunkers over the past decade and this falls into that pile.he shouldn't have won over Denzel for this Performance period.this film is pretty flat.and as far as playing a blind role check out Gene Wilder in see no evil hear no evil.far more convincing than Pacino.as for Chris O'Donnell he should be working at a Hot Dog stand somewhere.he can't act at all.
Rating: Summary: GREAT MOVIE PACINO'S BEST PERFORMANCE Review: FIRST OFF I'D LIKE TO TELL MOST OF THE OTHER REVIEWER'S THAT THE NAME PACINO HAS NO H A FEW PEOPLE GOT IT RIGHT BUT MOST OF YOU CAN'T SPELL AND PUT DOWN PACHINO AS HIS NAME. BUT ASIDE FROM THAT THIS FILM IS ONE OF THE BEST OF 1992 AND THE THE BEST OF THE DECADE IT ALSO CONTAINS PACINO'S BEST PERFORMANCE AS BLIND LIEUTENANT COLONEL FRANK SLADE AND THE SCENE WHERE PACINO DOES THE TANGO WITH GABRIELLE ANWAR IS ONE OF THE BEST SCENES EVER FILMED.
Rating: Summary: Superb acting Review: Ok...think AL Pacino at his best. Multiply it by like 10,000 and you have his acting performance. The scene where he tries to commit suicide still gives me goosebumps.Add to that, great supporting acting, a fantastic script which is quite funny at times and very moving also and you have yourself a superb film. Go get it.
Rating: Summary: come on- 4and a half? Review: jesus, this is worth 10 star
Rating: Summary: Simply Riveting Review: Of all the movies that I have seen that has moved me, Scent of a Woman was the one that did it. A highly emotional movie which starred Academy Award Winning Actor, Al Pacino who portrayed Ret. Lt. Col. Frank Slade, and Chris O'Donnell as the young fresh faced student of the prestigious Baird School, Charlie Simms. Charlie(O' Donnell) takes a job caring for Slade(Pacino), a washed-up, decorated military man who clings to his Jack Daniels, so he can earn enough money to go home for the Christmas Holidays. Along the way, Slade takes the young man through different turns during the Thanksgiving Day weekend in New York City not knowing what the boy will expect. While the unpredictable occurs, Charlie contemplates his fate with his school honor--a conflict of interest with who is your real friends and who are not. The entire movie wraps around relationships and how strangers can make a difference in a little over 2 hours and 37 minutes. For one weekend, Charlie and Slade discover that they need each other more than they thought, with different circumstances. You'd have to see the movie to know what I'm talking about, especially the finale. The director, Martin Brest(Beverly Hills Cop and Meet Joe Black), has the knack of bringing out the best in the characters even in unpleasant situations. The soft sides always show in those who don't appear to have it. If this film had a theme it would be, living is worth living.
