Summary: Russell Crowe: At Last, The Real One
Review: This is the finest performance by the finest actor we have. Despite the controversy over what was deleted from Nash's life, the film itself rises to emotional heights that will call you back to see it again and again
Russell Crowe is, from the first moment you see him at Princeton in 1947, totally gone into this character, unrecog-nizable as himself in other roles, or himself in the role called "real life."
You will begin to realize all over again what acting IS watching him on the screen. This kind of commitment to the art of it hasn't been seen in a generation of Hollywood-driven, middle-
class, easyboy lead men. Crowe is down, intense, blue-collar no bull..creating whatever it takes from touched to tenderized by his demons. No one else shows inner struggle and feeling so well. See if you don't agree. Then go back and watch his earlier triumphs.
Do you really care that he drinks beer a lot? And isn't polite about it all? C'mon Americans. This was clearly the most complex performance of any actor in years. Don't believe anything else.

Summary: THE BEST MOVIE DEPICTION OF MENTAL ILLNESS EVER MADE!
Review: A Beautiful Mind is simply THE BEST MOTION PICTURE EVER MADE! Russell Crowe is ingenious in his potrayal of John Nash, the brilliant scholar, on the border of genius, yet madness. Russell's actions, gestures, movements were incredibly real & life like. This movie takes you away, into the mind of a mentally ill person. Although the potrayal was of a real life schizophrenic genius, I am Bipolar (which is a fine line away from schizophrenia) & have suffered mental illness for the past 7 years, with a tortured brain & just like John Nash, have never been able to be "free" of mind. I related with this film on a very emotional & respectful level, all across the board! No one has EVER been able to capture the TRUE kaos of mental illness before on film! This film was truly unique, amazing, uplifting, it made you cry & director Ron Howard has made sure that this film takes you away on a journey with all of the characters, you truly find yourself lost in this movie. And it gets better and better each time you see it! I went to the movies 6 times already to see it & each time I figured out more things I had missed the time before. This movie is charming & innovative & it dared to go where no other filmmaker in our time has dared. Russell Crowe DESERVED that Oscar for his role in this movie & was absolutley appalled at the fact that he did not win. Simply put, this movie would NOT have been, if in fact it were not done by Russell Crowe~ RUSSELL CROWE WAS THIS MOVIE! Jennifer Connelley was incredible as well, and got her Oscar. It was unfair that the Academy saw to it that Russell only recieve his Oscar last year for Gladiator (which is another best film ever made!) and cheated him out of his rightful Oscar this time around. In a nutshell, A Beautiful Mind is Genius in itself. BUY IT!

Summary: freaking amazing, see this movie, 2-3 hankys needed
Review: A movie made for and about grown-ups, thank God and Ron Howard. Where does creativity and genius come from and how does someone come up with a truly original idea? Could YOU do it? What is it like to live with mental illness? What is love really? The casting of the 2 lead actors is perfect, they even resemble the Nash's! (see pics in the book, o'uninformed reviewers below) Russell Crowe = freaking amazing. Jennifer Connelly = wonderful. Mr. Howard = a smart man, he figured out a way to let us all experience what it is like to live with a mental illness. good work everyone. Read the book, 1998 National Book Critics Circle Awards winner in Biography.

Summary: A Beautiful Mind- A Beautiful Movie
Review: This movie has a little bit of everything- creativity, romance, a love that truly is for better or for worse, suspense, action, and taste. I have to admit- before this movie, I was never really a Russell Crowe fan, due in part to his reputation for being arrogant and obnoxious. I really went to see the movie because Jennifer Connelly and I are the same age and I grew up seeing her face in Sears' catalogs, never having seen any of her acting performances. But when I saw Russell and the enormity of acting talent he put forth in this movie, I was completely blown away. How wrong I was for opinionating myself and using my opinion to decide whether or not I would see any of his movies. This movie impressed me so much that I went out and rented all the Russell Crowe movies available to me, and all I can say is: Boy have I missed out through the years. His true personality radiates in every character he plays, and he was surely the right choice for the lead in "A Beautiful Mind". Jennifer Connelly was outstanding as Alicia Nash, and together, her and Russell were a "Beautiful Pair". Paul Bettany was also great. I would definitely recommend this movie to anyone in any age group, due in large part to the message it conveys- a beautiful mind, a mind that can appreciate the deeper things that most of us can't,
can be a troubled one, and those closest to that"beautiful mind" should never give up hope and keep close in mind the important things in life- compassion, long-suffering, and most of all--LOVE.

Summary: A great film!
Review: Despite what others said, I think this is one of the greatest films I have seen in years! Definitely deserve an Oscar.

Summary: Anthony Jr.
Review: Thus is the true story of mathmatical genius John Forbes Nash. The character of Nash is portrayed brillantly by Academy Award-winner Russel Crowe. Even if you hate him, you have to admit how incredible he was in this film. The story tells about the life of Nash and how in his early life, developed schizapherenia (typo?). While applying his mind, with the love of his wife Alicia, portrayed by the beautiful Jennifer Connolly, who won the Oscar for the role (not a terrific performance in my mind)he learn to fight this horrible illness. But with a incredible script, crew and score, it is one the top five films of the year 2001.

Summary: Ron Howard gets the nod - Great Piece
Review: Russel Crowe really shines in this movie with professional acting that did the character of Professor Nash justice in revealing the accomplishment of Nash's true story. Not only will Nash be known for his accomplishments in Universities, but his real life in dealing with mental struggles and the complexities it brings to personal relationships, as well as to one's own identity, are brought to notice with heartfelt emotions. Ron Howard was the perfect director to do this piece because he brings integrity and passion to his work. I was so pleased to see him get an Award. I have worked in the Psychology field, and while a movie such "As Good As It Gets" brings humor to the screen as a result of Mental Illness, "A Beautiful Mind" displays a more realistic seriousness to the issue that is combated with the greatest medicine humans will always need more of --- Love. :)

Summary: One of the years best. Crowe was robbed at the Oscars.
Review: First off, I would like to say how suprised I am to see so many reviewers on Amazon bashing this movie. I'm starting to wonder if some people even know what a good movie is. Crowe's performance is nothing less than magical. He really created something in this film and I was extremely disappointed to see him lose the Oscar. The supporting cast included Jennifer Connelly who was very good as Alicia Nash, Ed Harris, Judd Hirsh, and many others. Ron Howard's direction was impressive and this movie is truly a victory in his career. Along with "In the Bedroom," I'd say "A Beautiful Mind" was one of the two best films of 2001.

Summary: Not worth the Oscars.
Review: Definitely an overrated movie. I almost walked out during the first 10 minutes or so. Bad acting and cliche situations. At its worst when he has his 'brilliant' idea at university which is demonstrated by the girl in the red dress. But luckily it got a little better after that. Russell Crowe's excellent acting compensated for a lot. He plays a realistic over-focused nerd, although in my experience, people like that are not as good as self-evaluation (the silly-old-me routine) as this character seems to be. The casting for his wife is not very well done. She is just too beautiful for him. And although miracles do happen, I kept wondering what she saw in him.
On the whole, not a waste of money, but not a must-see.
