Summary: The Oscars Got It All Wrong
Review: This movie was terribly slow. It reached a climax early on when he came up with his theory, and then declined. The three big awards that it received were undeserved (Best Picture, Director, and Supporting Actress). Jennifer Connelly is a fine actress, but the role was not incredibly challenging (see Requiem for a better performance). On the other hand, Russell Crowe's role was extremely complex and he rose to the occasion. He should have received an Oscar for this role, and not for Gladiator. Lastly, Ron Howard should stick to less dramatic, less demanding movies. He is better off making less artistic, more entertaining movies like Parenthood and Ransom.

Summary: was it that great???
Review: i don't understand. best picture? best director?
best supporting actress? and best adapted screenplay?
there's nothing, absolutely nothing creative and amusing
about the director's filming, and picture.
jennifer connely proved her talent in Requiem for a Dream,
but i think anyone could have done this part.
there were many many stories similar to this, and nothing
makes this man's life better than all the other people
who lived a dramatic life. yes, it's a good movie,
a good story, but very typical and boring.
it definitely didn't deserve all the attention.

Summary: A Beautiful Mind = A Beautiful Movie
Review: A Beautiful Mind is one of the best dramatic movies I have ever seen. It won the Oscar for Best Picture which I belive it was. Russell Crowe is simply amazing at playing the part of John Nash. Jennifer Connelly deserved her Oscar for her part as Alicia Nash. Ed Harris did a great job as William Parcher. Christopher Plummer did a good job as Dr. Rosen who tries to help John overcome his problems. Paul Bettany also does a fine job as Charles Herman who is John's laid back roomate at Princeton. Ron Howard definetly deserved his Oscar for Best Director for this film. He's fantastic.

The DVD of A Beautiful Mind is extremely well done. The picture is fantastic and well detailed. The colors are so vibrant throughout the film. The sound is perfect the entire film. There are also great special features.

A Beautiful Mind tells the biography of the brilliant genius of a mathamatician, John Nash. The movie begins in a mathamatics class at Princeton where John Nash had a scholarship to becuase he is so good with math. His rival is the other winner of the scholarship who is always pressuring John. John's roommate helps John cope with thing when they get tough. John also studies people, animals, and other thing then draws there movement on window panes in his dorm room and the library of the college. Nash struggles throughout the movie with life, but his loving wife is always there to help him.

This movie is overall extremely brilliant in everyway. There are several unbeliveable twists that are amazing. The movie is so interesting and somewhat emotional. This movie is a winner. John Nash is a hero for what he had to go through. Hes fantastic. Just buy this film if you haven't seen it because this one's a keeper. Thanks

Summary: Overrated
Review: An overrated film in my opinion - expecting very little of its audience and offering so little. My gripes are plain enough.
1) I don't buy Russell Crowe as a graduate student. All of his classmates seem to be nearing forty - in fact, one of the characters played a graduate student in the 1986 film Real Genius. You do the math.
2) The makeup in the final scenes of the film is really bad. Jennifer Connelly and Russell Crowe don't look like they're aging, they look like they're melting.
3) The sentimentality here is over the top. Ron Howard is a great director in that he knows how to manipulate his audience well. Only in the case of this film, he may have done it in such a way that some may find the end result to be insulting to their intelligence.
4) The performances, while not bad, certainly aren't as spectacular as the reviews would have you believe. Jennifer Connelly is playing Jennifer Connelly - and Crowe's west virginia accent sounds like what an Australian's approximation of a West Virginia accent would sound like.
5) The writing is rather bland. The film's reveal seems set up for the maximum effect, not to serve the plot. Its like someone thought that it would be a good idea if the film had a Sixth Sense twist - but when it happens it makes the film lurch in another direction - quite distracting in a serious drama.

In conclusion, there have been better films made by Howard and better dramas in 2001. I doubt that this is better than the infinitely more interesting Memento - and it certainly doesn't challenge you. It just does the math for you, so to speak.

Summary: The actual John Nash
Review: Once I walked out of the movie theatre seeing this movie, I realized I had really been inspired. Everything about the movie was very...good.

Yesterday, I was walking about Priceton University giving friends a tour of it. We discovered a train station there that we had not yet seen. A train pulled up and the Actual John Nash appeared. We met up with him and talked with him for a minute. I must say, Russel Crowe played him very well. I am very surprised he did not win the oscar.

Summary: A Great "Feel Good" Movie, But Pure Fiction
Review: ... The acting, directing and screenwriting were stellar. The only disappointment for me was that the movie was a whitewashed type of feel good vehicle for Ron Howard to do his typical (and typically well done) "triumph of the human spirit" silliness. That doesn't cut down on the enjoyment factor, but it does mislead viewers into believing that John Nash, the subject of the movie, was a more wholesome person than history tells us he was. The movie leaves out all of the unsavory moments in Nash's life, from his alleged torturing of animals as a child to his prior marriage and adultery (and some worse). As a result, the audience learns to sympathize with a person who may not at all be sympathetic in real life. As I said, it makes for a great movie, but don't go believing it.

Summary: An Excellent Film! Not A Chick Flick!
Review: This is a true story. Ron Howard did a superb job of bringing this one out. You really get into the characters. They are so believable.

Russell Crowe, Jennifer Connely and Ed Harris! They are awesome. So believable. The true story doesn't come out until nearly half way through the movie.

This one needs to be watched twice. Once you understand the story, you have to go back and see what was really going on. My wife and I watched it the other night. We would stop it every 15 minutes or so to talk about what we thought was going on. This one makes you sit back and think.

Russell Crowe was great! He was very into this character. Very believable. Wow!

The second DVD full of extras was great. We watched all the pieces. Wow!

Summary: a really wonderful film
Review: After watching this movie for the first time at a friend's house, I decided that it was one the best films ever. The next day I went out to the nearest DVD rental store and got it to show my parents. They loved it just as much. The acting is fantastic - I was an overnight Russell Crowe fan. The story is amazing (it's true!)

One thing that really got stuck in my head was that music. I was humming it for weeks afterward!

One thing that I also really liked was how extra stuff there was on the DVD. I'm a person who when I see a movie I like I have to know everything I can about the making of it, the actors, everything. This DVD gave me all that. And not just a whole bunch of writing that you get on some DVDs but actually little movies with Ron Howard etc... talking about it. Very statisfing. I also highly recommend the CD of the music!
