Summary: Accomplishes goal but overly hyped.
Review: A Beautiful Mind scored a number of awards at the Oscars. True, the film was a rollercoaster of a ride through the mind of John Nash, a brilliant yet troubled genius, but it still wasn't a good as everyone's making it out to be. I think that the film received much of it's praise based soley on the performance by Crowe - in which he does a wondeful job as the extremely intelligent, yet overly troubled professor. This film is based on a true story and that's why it lacks so much. There are lapses of pure boredom that make us think the best is yet to come. Well, it never really becomes great, just good. I have to give Ronnie Howard credit; he did the best with the plot he was given. I mean, the whole film deals with a genius and the constant demons he must face. It's hardly A Taxi Driver, Cool Hand Luke, or any other of the great cinematic films that have graced the screen over the years. A Beautiful Mind will suffice your need for an intellectual film based on the mind, personal demons, and paranoia. It won't, however, go down in the archives as one of the best films of all time.

Summary: Stunningly good filmmaking
Review: What an incredible achievement in film. What other reviewers are missing is that this is a work of fiction based on the life of John Nash. It's not a biography or documentary. It is an amazing, stunning piece of work. Ron Howard should be proud. I am not sure he has ever made a bad movie.... much like Rob Reiner.

Summary: Best picture of all time (so far)
Review: A compelling story, rendered perfectly. Real psychology*, drama, suspense, love, mathematics, and university life, all portrayed accurately and not dumbed down to satisfy Hollywood's usual low expectations of viewer lack-of-intelligence (and mis-understanding). A high water mark, I believe this may be the best picture of all time (so far). (*As a psychology major, I interviewed real schizophrenics in
a state mental hospital.)

Summary: Best Picture of 2001? Hardly...
Review: 2001 - the year of Black Hawk Down, The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, and Training Day... and yet A Beautiful Mind snags the Best Picture Oscar? I'm not saying A Beautiful Mind is COMPLETELY without redemption as a motion picture, but it comes complete with all the sappy Hollywood sentiment director Ron Howard could conjure. This isn't real emotion, it's melodrama, which is best left for daytime television. Is this movie more important than Black Hawk Down, more spectacular than The Fellowship of the Ring, or more original than Training Day? No. Definitely not. This movie wasn't made for an audience - it was made with an Oscar in mind. That's not good policy.

Review: this movie lack all attraction to the public because the bad edition of the scenes, the history is a mediocre play of the writer . the especial effects are lost in the threshold of profesionality. the drama drown with its awful documentation to the viewer. wich a half of hour of seeing the movie fall to a deep sleep and enter in the desperation to get out the cinema but didn't because of the money he spend and he had to wait the terrible anghish of the time remaining to arrive to my bed and trying to erase the terrible image of "the beautiful mind" please dont make a terrible film like this again to avoid wining the lord of the rings, wich is a new zeland film

Summary: How old is Fionn and what is this person's life experience?
Review: This is the most accurate protrayal I've ever seen from Hollywood of mental health issues. I was familiar with Mr. Nash so I already knew what the overall story was. This might be a good idea for other viewers: get a few facts on his life and work before you sit down to watch the movie. I realize that some may feel "tricked" by the delusional events and people, but to a person that is suffering, these events are as real as the ones that do exist (for everyone). Because of the casting selection for the doctor (Christopher Plummer), I think many will keep the poll open on the good guy/bad guy decision. What you really need to understand is the level of the Science of Psychiatry at that time and the tools they had to use. Finally, the casting and performance of Jennifer Connoly was great. Anyone watching this should begin to understand the commitment of a marriage vow (in sickness and health). With a partner like that portrayed, you cannot help but succeed. When you watch this movie (DVD), save some time to talk about it after, especially with any children. In an age where Prozac is outselling McDonald's french fries, everyone should understand Jon Nash.

Summary: Connelly and Crowe magic together...
Review: I just finished watching In The Bedroom two days ago. Then I watched the other best picture nominee (Beautiful Mind), the one that won, today.
I really think that Oscar should have went to Bedroom or Moulin Rouge. A Beautiful mind is good but not perfect. If it is slightly better than a perfect hollywood movie, that is because of Jennifer Connelly and Russel Crowe. They were amazing. Ed Harris's appearance seemed almost a cameo in comparison. (I should add, Harris is one of my favorite actors.)
I thought the second half was much better than the first...I actually yawned in the first hour! Even though In the Bedroom was an even slower-moving movie than this movie, I just didn't find a false note in Bedroom. In Beautiful Mind, I actually noticed camera angles, mood music, camera set ups.
Nevertheless, I recommend this movie based on the two leads' performances, but more importantly, the introduction to a true/real life love story between two incredible human beings.

Summary: OSCAR PERFORMANCE BY RUSSELL CROWE
Review: I have heard it said that brilliance is close to insanity. I do not know whether or not this is true, but A BEAUTIFUL MIND, helped me to see what a brilliant person goes through when they also suffer from schizophrenia and what they see and do. This performance by Russell Crowe, as Dr. John Nash, a brilliant mathematician who, although unknown to the viewer at the time, shows signs of schizophrenia upon entering Princeton University, is Oscar calibre material as far as I am concerned. This is a true story about Dr. John Nash, who develops an economic formula which earns him a coveted position at Wheeler Labs. His brilliance at solving codes causes him to be approached by the Pentagon. Not knowing that he was schizophrenic, I truly believed that he was involved in government espionage work and was becoming so frightened that he was showing signs of madness. Not knowing anything about the life of Dr. Nash, I had no idea what the theme of this movie was and found myself shocked to realize that Dr. Nash was "seeing and hearing things". I still do not know how much involvement was real and how much was imagined. Jennifer Connolly gave an excellent performance as the wife who stuck by him through the good times and the bad, helping him to live with his illness and filter back into a functioning life,teaching at Princeton, and eventually earning the Nobel Prize in his later life. Christopher Plummer gave an outstanding performance as the psychiatrist who tries to help him. Again, at first, there was doubt as to whether he was a "good guy" or a "bad guy". The movie, directed by Ron Howard was riveting. It had humor and sadness and held my interest throughout. It was not until the end of the movie that we learned this was a true story. I highly recommend this movie. It was rated "PG" and there is not any reason that teens cannot see it, or mature young people. There was no explicit sex and no extreme violence.

Review: Hello! I am your average, 11 year old girl who likes to play violent video games/watch violent, action filled movies, who likes to blow things up, and who likes spy stuff, swords, guns, aliens, and anything that can blow up/murder.
Some of you wimpy ADULTS are saying that you fell asleep because of this boring movie... This movie was really good...it may not have told enough about Nash, but who the heck cares...it's a movie. I won the oscars because...well...it's good. To tell you the truth, I was expecting Lord of the Rings to win...and hoping it would, too. But now that I have seen this movie, I could never decide. Now, all you people...I like things that can do all the stuff listed at the beginning, yet I LOVED this movie. No blowing up, no stuff like that. You people got no taste. If you liked this movie, YA! If you like sad movies, strange movies, good movies...this is for you. Seeya...off to write review for SIGNS ^______^ allim@comcast.net

Summary: HOW TO LOVE
Review: The movie is a real story. It shows a great mathematics scientist. His name was Jon Nash. He was so smart and he focused on the numbers. He always studied alone. But he had a problem. He had schizophrenia. He could see three people. No one could see them. One people was called big brother. He gave a secret job to Jon Nash. Other people were his roommate and his niece, but the people were not real. They just appeared in Jon Nash's mind.
Finally he went to the mental hospital when he worked in a university. Passed that time, he won The Nobel Prize. He also became a respected professor. Because of his wife, he could a success. Her name was Alicia. They met in the university. She was a student in his class. She was so smart and had wisdom. She helped him to notice his problem. He knew that the niece did not grow up. He was different from other schizophrenic people.
I especially like the scene that was in café. He wondered about his feeling for her. At that time she asked him three questions. After that he was able to be sure of her. And the last scene was very impressive. When he won the Noble Prize he spoke to her in front of an audience. They loved each other with all their hearts. I couldn't find bad things. I learned how to love and how to solve problems as well.
