Review: Before I had seen The Silence Of The Lambs, I had heard from people that it was really scary and more of a horror movie. But I had to almost completely disagree with what they told me. Yes the movie was pretty creepy at times (Anthony Hopkins calm and bizzare speeches he gives to Jodie Foster) but was definatly more of a drama than a horror movie. But still it was one of the greatest movies ever.The Silence Of The Lambs is about an FBI trainee, Clarice Starling(Jodie Foster), who is put on her first mission to try and catch a serial killer named Buffalo Bill who has a tardemark of skinning his victims simply because "it excites him." But to catch a very sly and smart serial killer, you must know how a serial killer thinks by entering his mind. Which is why Clarice seeks help on the case from one of the most dangerous serial killers of all time: Dr. Hannibal Lector. Hannibal "The Cannibal" Lector(Anthony Hopkins) was imprisoned in the past(see the prequal Red Dragon) and has one of the best minds of a serial killer. Through the movie, he guids Clarice through the mission giving her tips and clues on how a serial killer's mind works, particulary this one. And in return, the once profesional psychiatrist wishes to examine Clarice's mind and help her silence her past troubles that have been haunting her all of her life. This movie was brilliantly scripted, edited, and directed. And the acting jobs, especially from Anthony Hopkins, were some of the best I have seen in a long time. If you are a fan of truly great mystery/suspense dramas, The Silence Of The Lambs is pretty much the best you can get. "The Silence Of The Lambs" runs for about 2 hours and 10 minutes. It is rated R for brief strong violence and gore, diturbing images, some strong language(including lots of refrences to homosexuality and heterosexuality), and nudity.

Summary: Arguably the best suspense film ever made!
Review: The "psychological thriller" has always been my favorite genre of film making. Such films are more challenging in that it takes a special cohesiveness between a director, screenwriter, and cast to craft a story that will get inside the viewer's head and stay there days - even weeks - after having seen the film. Though heavy on the suspense (naturally), most (if not all) of the "scary stuff" is implied, which I feel has a much stronger effect on the audience than the average run-of-the-mill fright flick. "The Silence of the Lambs" is one of only two films that I have seen in my lifetime that pulls this off successfully ("The Sixth Sense" being most recently the second). Jodie Foster perfectly embodies a young female FBI agent-in-training with a twofold mission: trying to prove herself as a capable agent in taking on the life-and-death task before her while battling her own inner demons at the same time. To save the life of the next would-be victim of one heinous killer, Clarice has to enlist the assistance of another heinous killer. With time slowly running out, she has no other choice but to do what her supervisor explicitly warned against - allow Lechter to "get inside your head." How cool is that! To say that Sir Anthony Hopkins simply "portrayed" Hannibal Lechter would be like saying that Michael Jordan is simply a basketball player. Hopkins BECAME Lechter, evil genius personified! Hopkins devoured every scene he was in with a combination of creepy brilliance and deliberate, near-surgical precision. "Silence" won the top five Academy Awards of 1991 (Picture, Director, Adapted Screenplay, Actor and Actress), and deservedly so. This is arguably one of the best suspense films ever made. Period!

Summary: A Masterpiece of Gothic Horror
Review: I first saw "Silence of the Lambs" when I was in high school, and I didn't understand it too much. But when I got the DVD of this film recently, I saw it for at least twenty two times. I even got second copy and it's still sealed, in mint condition, just in case the other DVD gets damaged. "Silence of the Lambs" is one of those rare films that will stay in your mind and in your head for at least a week or more. This is the scariest, most emotionally affecting film in the Hannibal Lecter trilogy. You all know the basics of this film. A rookie agent from the FBI is pulled out to ask Dr. Lecter's help for the capture of the brutal, serial killer Buffalo Bill. In these exchanges, we begin to probe deeper into the character of Clarice Starling, a woman who has her skeletons in the closet that immediately resurfaces once Dr. Lecter dissects her mind. And in this process, she feels it is her ultimate mission to track down Buffalo Bill so that her lambs will stop screaming. Jodie Foster is the key to this film, aside of course from, Anthony Hopkins. I don't know if the film would have been effective if Michelle Pfeiffer agreed to play Starling, but she just draws you so strongly to this masterpiece of a film. There is not a scene in this film where she gives her character such depth. The key to the success of this film is we are given privy to the world of a woman. A woman who is doing the work of a man. As the DVD featurette said, the sexual twist here is that it is a female who is trying to rescue another female. Thomas Harris is just brilliant. If you are an avid DVD collector and film buff, it is imperative that you go out and buy this DVD. And if you are as anal as I am, I would suggest that you buy two copies. The special features add another two hours to this DVD, and you have to watch "Inside the Labyrinth". You'll know what I mean when you've seen it.

Summary: Great movie, good acting, and follows the book well
Review: This is a movie classic![.] I saw this movie years ago, and just recently read the book. After reading the wonderful book, I decided to watch this thriller again. I loved it. This is one of very few movies that follow a book pretty well. I was very impressed. Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins do a great job and really draw you into the movie. I am very happy with the outcome of this classic thriller and recommend it to any fan of mystery thrillers. You will love it. Also, try the book if you enjoy reading.

Summary: One of the all-time great thrillers
Review: Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins deliver amazing performances as, respectively, Clarice Starling, a young FBI agent on the hunt for a serial killer called Buffalo Bill, and Hannibal Lector, an imprisoned killer whose psychiatric genius can provide valuable insights that may lead to Bill's capture. Every element of this film is dead on. Foster plays Clarice as sensitive and uncertain, yet brave, brilliant, and unwilling to succumb to her fears. Hopkins gives a performance of such stunning power that the figure of Hannibal Lector immediately attained pop icon status. Jonathan Demme's direction, incorporating numerous point-of-view shots, draws us right into the story and keeps the tension building. Ted Tally's screenplay (from the Thomas Harris novel) cuts right to the essentials of the story and Howard Shore's score is atmospheric yet unobstrusive. This is an essential film for anyone who enjoys horror or suspense.

Summary: Silence of the Lambs
Review: Easily one of the most notable and recognizable suspense thrillers, SILENCE OF THE LAMBS delivers each and every time. It's a total psychological, suspense thriller that will intrigue you and even creep you out a little. Jody Foster is Agent Clarice Starling and she's been assigned to find the mysterious serial killer who calls himself Buffalo Bill. After doing some research on Buffalo Bill she finds out that he has a connection to imprisoned Dr. Hannibal Lechter (Anthony Hopkins). She has no choice but to trust the deranged psychologist because she'll need every bit of information she can get from him. SILENCE OF THE LAMBS is probably my favorite out of the trilogy (SILENCE OF THE LAMBS, HANNIBAL and RED DRAGON). There isn't as much gore as there is in some other movies but this will creep you out from a psychological stand point. This movie gets into your head a little and also into the mind of a serial killer. Hopkins also puts on an outstanding performance as Hannibal Lechter. He is simply amazing in this role. Jody Foster is also very good in the role of Clarice Starling. This is a hihgly recommended movie for all movie lovers, suspense thriller fams will definiarely get a kick out of this one. Seriously, check out SILENCE OF THE LAMBS and also check out HANNIBAL. You'll be glad you did.

Summary: The Criterion edition is the best.
Review: I was lucky enough to buy my store's last copy of the Criterion Collection version of "Silence of the Lambs," which features, most notably, a commentary track featuring director Jonathan Demme, actors Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins. This is, arguably, the best commentary track ever placed aside a grand film. None of the other DVDs have this feature. If you can find this anywhere, grab it. Foster talks about how she was intrigued by the feminist aspect of the role of Clarice Starling. An FBI agent who served as a consultant on the film chimes in with tales of true gore and how the film fared in its portrayal of FBI training. And Hopkins speaks of how he makes Lecter both endearing and creepy. The movie itself looks great, still causes a chill and a thrill. But the commentary is to die for.

Review: Out of all the Hannibal Lecter movies, this is the one to see. Definitly a great movie and suspenseful throughout it all. Jodie Foster does a great job and it is too bad she decided not to revive her role in Hannibal. Definitly go see this movie if you haven't, you're missing out!

Summary: "I thought it was a children's book, a bedtime story..."
Review: ...says Anthony Hopkins, speaking of the first time his agent mentioned "Silence of the Lambs" to him as a potential project. This comment comes in "Inside the Labyrinth," a documentary about the film that is one of the many nifty extras on this DVD. I almost fell out of my chair laughing at the answering machine message from Hopkins as Lecter ("...please leave a message. I insist. The last person who failed to do so, I ate his liver..."). There are plenty of teasers and trailers for the movie for people who like that sort of thing, as I do. You can spend all afternoon with this DVD, enjoying the complete "Lambs experience." The movie itself? As sommeone on the crew said, it spans several genres...detective story, fairy tale, morality play, psychological thriller, horror movie. It excels at each of them in a way that no other film had done before, and few have done since. I can still remember seeing this in the theater when it was originally released, clutching the friend next to me and screaming my fool head off as Jame Gumb stalked Clarice with his green night goggles. So many things about the movie stay with you, and make it worth seeing again and again.
