Rating: Summary: Stern may be KING, but Midler is the QUEEN of ALL MEDIA! Review: While she may not possess one of the greatest vocal instruments of all time, Bette Midler is a singular interpreter of song. Few performers, past or present, have her unique gift of making a remake of another's sound fresh and exciting in the patented Midler fashion. The soundtrack to "Beaches" offers the listener a tour of Midler the pop star, Midler the Broadway diva, Midler the raunchy queen, and Midler the balladeer.Everyone is familiar with the mega-hit "When Beneath My Wings", a standard for almost every school function in the country. Midler's fans will recognize her cabaret favorite "Otto Titsling". But there are some other treats on this soundtrack: the brief Cole Porter tune "I've Still Got My Health", the Randy Newman-penned "It Think It's Going to Rain Today", a tune co-written by Midler and Wendy Waldman ("Oh, Industry") and a wonderful duet with David Pack "I Know You By Heart". If Sammy Davis, Jr. was "Mr. Entertainment" then, Midler is definitely the "Mrs."
Rating: Summary: awsome Review: The movie brings things closer to home. It makes you and helps you think about your life and your friends. The way Bette acts and sings in this movie is awesome. The music and songs are unreal. If you need a movie to make you laugh and cry this is the one for you.
Rating: Summary: Man is she evil!!!!! Review: I don't know why allot of the people around here like Bette Midler's evil plague. I'm avoiding this because I dislike it. Whoever likes Bette midler has been caught in her evil snares, and I must save his/her soul from this travesty which is these albums which I have an absolute distaste for. I mean, I've been a fan of this music, until my instincts reminded me of how evil this woman is. Bette Midler has been the cause of everyone's downfall, and I should've listened to my brother regarding Bette. When I first heard the music from The Rose, I began to realize that even these songs on this cassette are not enough to save herself from 1979. When I heard the song of Wind Beneath My Wings in my Jazz combo class, I've just realized, Wo! I shouldn't have bought this cassette. Even the songs like Under the Boardwalk, Glory Of Love, The Friendship Theme, and I got My Health are extremely nauseating. I bought this cassette at the store, and listened to it only to find out that Bette Midler is my downfall. I am never going to buy anymore of Bette Midler's albums ever again. If you want to get music, then I suggest you get Barbara Streisand instead.
Rating: Summary: Blake Houston LOVED it! Review: I watched this movie with my wife and actually shed a tear. Man what a good movie...
Rating: Summary: A CLASSIC TEAR JERKER Review: This movie is perfect to watch w/ your bestfriend on a saturday afternoon and shed a whole bunch of tears. There are some flaws like Bette playing a 21 yr old - sorry it just didnt pull off well. Overall i think it was a great movie and even though it was attacked by critics you cant touch the passion that you feel between these two women.
Rating: Summary: A good "friends" movie to own Review: Beaches is one of my favorite movies to watch while hanging out with my friends. I'm not partial to "chick flicks" but this is one I enjoy. Bette Midler and Barbara Hershey are fantastic in this movie. The DVD does not have any bonus material, but the picture and sound quality are slightly better than the VHS version.
Rating: Summary: It was a gift Review: My wife likes Bette Midler, I do not. She wanted this movie for Christmas, so I bought it. She asked me to watch it with her. I told her if she wanted anymore Bette Midler movies for Christmas, then my Christmas gift would be having someone else watch them with her.
Rating: Summary: A Tearjerker that is actually a Good Movie!! Review: Out of all of Bette Midler's movies, this could easily be considered as her biggest movie. Not only was it highly successfiul but it also spawned the best selling single of Bette's musical career-THE WIND BENEATH MY WINGS as well as the best selling album of her career as the BEACHES soundtrack sold more than three million copies. This movie can definitley pull the heartstrings of anyone with any sense of compassion as is a reason why many of the male critics bashed it. As I was a young preteen when I first saw it, I cried rather easily. THis movie is about Bette who is a famous performer who is friends with a rich lady Barbara Hershey. They go through their ups and downs as they find out that Barbara has a fatal disease. She isn't married and her child could possibly lose a mother. Buy the movie to find out what happens as all the cast which includes the funny Lainie Kazan and Mayam Builick off of the hit tv show BLOSSOM. A great vehicle for all involved!!
Rating: Summary: Friendship Review: Thank you so much for releasing my most favourite film on to the DVD format. I have watched my VHS copy so often,it is wearing thin, and have waited so long for the DVD version !! Here is a beautiful story of a friendship, between two women from differing backgrounds, that starts at the beginning of their teenage years, we then see how the two differing lives are told through letters to each other until one day when Hilary Whitney (Barbar Hershey)rebels at the rich life and goes to stay with CC Bloom (Bette Midler) who is a struggling singer/actress. They accidently meet up with the Director of the Falcon Players, who falls for Hilary but CC Bloom falls head over heels in love with him. Hilary returns to her rich life when her father is dying and she then goes on to marry a well-to-do lawyer. Meanwhile, CC Bloom marries her Director, after he realises Hilary is not coming back, and has a hit show with "Sparkle". All four meet up after an evenings performance of the show and Hilary and CC have a major row. They end up not speaking and while CC tries to make it up between them by writing, Hilary returns her letters unopened. Hilary then catches her husband with another woman and they divource. She also finds herself pregnant and he wants nothing to do with the baby. Meanwhile CC's acting career takes a turn for the worst and she ends up divourced as well. Both women meet up again when CC is appearing at the local disco and Hilary goes to meet her. They make up and CC helps/hinders throug to the birth of Victoria, who is her Mother's pride & joy. Hilary then suffers from a viral heart disease which had killed her mother when Hilary was a little girl. Unfortunately, history seems to be repeating itself and we watch her steady decline to the very sad end. Much to CC's surprise, Hilary entrusts her daughter to the care of CC who has never remarried and isn't too sure whether she will make a good mother but if Vistoria is willing then so is she. Hilary knows that CC will be able to tell Victoria all the stories of her mother's and CCs friendship. This film will make you want to laught and especially cry, get the hankies ready!!
