Rating: Summary: A cool confusing thriller I loved! Review: Even though I was so confusing you will probably have to see this movie many times just to fully understand it, it is well worth it. I loved the movie and the black and white style added to the mysterious element of the movie. It really makes you think about it for a long time. After I saw it I was always thinking about it just trying to fit all the pieces of the movie together. I highly recommend this movie to anybody who wants to see something different. But I must warn you, if you don't like to think, or see a movie twice you will probably hate it.
Rating: Summary: Transcends cyber-thrillers Review: Though I am sure the video will eventually (someday) come down in price, I decided to go for it for $33. It was more than worth it; in fact, this is one of the finest of its genre and certainly will be an important "Gen-X" film of the future. "Pi" tells the techno-laced story of Max Cohen, a mathematician who goes over the edge. As far as math goes, there's chaos, fibonacci numbers, and of course 3.14....... "Pi" mixed the hard cyberthrill of "Tetsuo" with the mindgame paranoia of "Conspiracy Theory." Highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: Very well done film. Makes you think. Review: This movie makes you think. It doesn't just hold you had and lead you through the story, you have to think. I am very glad that I let my friend talk me into buying this film.
Rating: Summary: Pi: One of the best films ever made. Review: To accuratly describe this film in a maximum of 1,000 words would be the same as calculating the exact value of pi. Which, if you are so mathematically inclined, is impossible. This film was created with a minimal budget, which made the film makers find other ways of portraying the film withought the use of money to create large explosions and other over-done special effects. This resulted in the most creative movie made in many years. The story of a mathematician who beleives that everything in life has a pattern, including the stockmarket. In time he manages to find this pattern and is pursued by people who want his pattern for financial gain, another group of dedicated jews are after him because they beleive that he holds the name of God. Throughout this time, Max, the protagonist, suffers from severe headaches and haulusinasions which makes you wonder what is really going on. The movie is also filmed in black and white which gives you an eerie sensation. This movie has won many awards and the direction is incredible. The soundtrack is almost as incredible as the movie itself, and accuratly portrays the movie's extrordinary qualities. Do yourself a favor, get this movie, sit down, and be amazed.
Rating: Summary: Dark, Distrubing, Intelligent and Intense Review: PI is one of the most thought provoking movies I've seen in a long time. The basic premise is that there is order to the universe -- and understanding of that order is possible given the right key (in this case a number). While this premise has been used before, Aronofsky takes it in a new direction which is: given that you've found such knowledge, what do you do with it? In this film the main character's (Cohen) manic search for this goal ultimately leads him to insanity and (finally) to the realization that the meaning of life cannot be quantified. Rather, life has meaning only when you can appreciate the world around you. The way in which Cohen permanently resigns himself to this notion is not for feint of heart.
Rating: Summary: You'll love it or hate it Review: This is one of the movies you'll either love or hate. It is very complex and mysterious and the black and white only adds to the feel symbolizing the confusion and chaos in Max's world. If you like psychological thriller movies, I recommend this to you.
Rating: Summary: best movieever Review: I think Pi is the best movie ever because of it's paranoid atmosphere and the eerie music to go along with it's Great story line, good actors, great director, great movie
Rating: Summary: Imagine finding the pattern to life itself Review: Forget fractals, Fibonacci and Fermat. This is crazy, disturbing, painful, engrossing and so, so simple. I beleived it, I loved it, I even copied his hairstyle. This is a gotta see, but be warned, it stays with you.
Rating: Summary: My movie of the year, though not for everyone Review: When I first heard about the movie, it was desribed to me as similar to Eraserhead and Taxi Driver. When I read a plot summary, I had a hard time imagining de Niro with a deformed baby worrying about math problems. I have to say, though, that this film is a triumph on most levels, from the visceral direction to the subtle imagery to the soundtrack. So what if the math is sketchy--I was sucked in to the mind of the number theorist and his search for god.
Rating: Summary: forget it Review: This movie was explained to me before I watched it. It sounded good. I hated it. I had no sympathy for the main character. Some people loved it. Why??? I'm not signing this because I don't want all it's fans to write me. Sometimes you pick a loser movie and this was one of them for me. Don't compare it to the Truman show. That was great. (The person next to me in the movies hated it-go figure).
