Summary: Excellant Movie!
Review: I was sitting around watching the Independent Film Channel when all of a sudden this movie came on. It looked good, so I decided to watch it. Also, I heard of it before. As I got into the movie, I began to enjoy, unlike a lot of the movies on this channel.

The movies about a young teenager who really wants to be a skinhead like his older brother Derek Vinyard, who is famous for starting up a group of skinheads in Venus Beach, California. The trouble start up when Derek goes off to jail for killing two young African Americans who were breaking into his car on night.

The movie starts off with Danny, the young skinhead brother, getting in trouble with the principle of his school, who happens to be African American, for writing a book report on Mein Kumph, Adolf Hitler's autobiography. The teacher now sends Danny into a class which he will teach named American History X. To start off the class, Danny has to write a new report on his brother Derek. Even though Danny hates the idea, he still agrees to write the paper.

Around this time, Derek is released from jail. However, his look has changed. He no longer pocesses his rebellious bald scalp, but a full head of hair. He is met early by the still bald-headed Danny, who tells him about the report he has to do. Shocking to the boy, Derek tells him to do the report, and says it wasn't a good idea for him to write on Hitler. Derek also discovers that Danny has joined the group that he had been a part of, and taken the same mentor that Derek took when he was a skin.

Intense, disturbing, and touching at times, American History X gives the story of a family who has been torn down by racism. With excellant performances from Edward Nortan and Edward Furlong, this movie packs a message about the neo-Nazi skinheads of America. This is definatly a movie anyone on the planet shoulld see. It pulls in family, anti-racism, and changes that will shock you until the end.

Summary: Intense but something everyone should see
Review: Basically American History X is about a teenage skin, Danny, head forced to write a paper on how his brother Derek was put into the path of killing two blacks when he turned in an english paper on Mein Kumph (hitlers autobiography). Derek, who was the lead skin head in town, realized the errors of his ways while in prison and now whats to teach Danny the same lesson before he gets into trouble.
This really is a movie that everbody should take the time to watch. It not only is enjoyable but it shows that people have to be taught to hate and shows how one persons oppinion can spiral into something out of control.
This movie will leave you speachless and ultimately make you think.

Summary: American History X
Review: This is the quintessential movie about race relations in the United States. A stark portrayal of neo-nazism in the United States, American History X is the tale of the young Derek Vinyard and the transformation he undergoes, as he realizes that a life revolving around hatred of others just isn't worth it. What sets this movie apart is its ability to give the audience a critical insight into the thought process of white supremacists. It doesn't justify their behavior, but it rationalizes their thinking and makes the audience understand where they are coming from. This movie is almost entirely devoid of subplots. There is no hidden message or underlying theme. It is amazing that a movie so simplistic can have such a powerful emotional effect.

Summary: American History X
Review: For anyone who has never heard anything about this movie, it's about a Nazi (Edward Norton) who gets put in jail but comes back a changed man. When he comes back he finds trouble with having to deal with his past Nazi friends and his younger brother (Edward Furlong) who begin to attack him because he's against what he once enveloped himself in.
This movie is extremely gripping from the beginning as it goes between the present day and multiple flashbacks. Even as rough as the content in the movie is, it is a great movie teaching about the reality of racism and the world we live in.
While it is obviously not a movie for the younger crowd, for anyone else this movie is sure to leave you thinking and will not be one forgotten easily.

Summary: Mind blowing
Review: I first saw this movie, and I thought that it was absolutly amazing, and then I watched it again, and it just seemed to get better. The movie, I think, has a very real, yet graphic interpretation of what life is really like for some people, and as they say at the end of the movie, how we make enimes out of strangers.

Summary: Mind-Blowing and Powerful
Review: Wow! I can't believe that nobody talks about this movie. I rented it having heard nothing about it, but since I've seen it, I've told everybody about it. Edward Norton delivered an increadible performance as a repentant skinhead. This was truly an amazing movie. It is Norton's best role, which says a lot because he's always great (Fight Club, Rounders, The Score, 25th Hour). This is certainly not a movie that everybody can handle. Before you view, understand that it has an extreme R rating, which is for strong brutal violence (including a graphic rape), pervasive extreme language, and sexuality (including some brief nudity). This is not exactly your feel good movie either, so be prepared. Don't watch this with your elementary age kids. American History X is an extremely hard core movie that reflects hard core life styles. It is unforgettable and will have a powerful impact on you.

Summary: outstanding performance in a non-convincent plot!
Review: Edward Norton since "Primal Fear" showed that he was able to conduct a leading role by surpassing veteran Richard Gere in that film. So you might expect a really outstanding performance from his part in American History X. Such is his performance that the unconsistence plot may at some point become "pecata minuta". The plot presents an inverosimil set of characters involved in racism events fueled by the revenge of a young boy named Derek Vineyard played by Norton, against color and hispanic american citizens because his father died in the hands of a color man when he was trying to recue him from being burned. Apparently the pseudo-nazis ideas tought by an almost "FBI most wanted" racist criminal that lives in the same neighborhood, drive him to begin racist justified violence, by creating a white supremacy group that first expulses a color gang from the neighbor basket ball playground and later dedicated to intimidate "illegal" hispanic people who work in stores. Does the name "American history X" suggest that anybody may be the X citizen that can fall into the world of active racism almost by the irony of destiny? Here's where the plot lacks of credibility. Can a WASP young man from one day to another become the leader of a gang of young teenagers dissapointed with the american way of life that seems to opens the door to people from different races and countries who "take" the life opportunities that are supossed to be for them only? Well, that certainly will sound politically incorrect and it should be fixed at some part in the film, and it's actually did with the redemption of the white boy. Vineyards falled in prison because of having sadistically murdered two black boys who tried to steal his car wheels, and surviving the jail because a good will black prisoner who seems to sympathize with him, protects him from the white brothership, a group of white males that became "prison flesh", dealing with drugs that sale to non-white people in prison and that will not hesitate to kill him because he refused to take part on such bussiness. Vineyard is able to hate color and hispanic people but cannot stand the idea of selling to them drugs. After a traumatic event in prison, Vineyard finds himself alone and finnaly realize that racist is self destructing.
With the help of a black cop, Vineyards lefts out of the prison and returns to his home with the mission of "re-convert" to his brother who had becomed a pro-nazi, and to destroy the white supremacy racist group that he helped to create. In this group, he is even called the Father Vineyard. At the climax of the film, a color teenager shoots and kills Derek Vineyard's brother at school just to show us that racism is in fact an ill of the human kind and may the current violence in highschools be primary driven by racist motifs. I really find a more honest treating of the american racism in the films "Missisipi Burning" and "Higher Learning" even thought the film is saved by the remarkable Norton's performance.

Summary: It looks at racism at Hitlers point of view
Review: Well this movie is about a racist learning how wrong racism really is. Edward Norton gives the performance of his life. Im normally not the type to get touched by movies but this movie really effected every thing I believe in. Edward Norton was a huge racist and was sent to prison for killing a black male in a footpath. He was sent to prison and was betrayed by the white males there. A chris tucker like black male ended up being nortons only friend . When Norton was released from prison he realised how wrong his old view were. Only.........it was too late

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Good, but one sided
Review: I do honestly believe the bigotry of all forms is taught at home. I do like this movie for pointing out that racism can be taught at home. It was good to see the race issue from whites. They feel blacks and minorites are destroying their country and leeching off the system, while blacks feel they are profiled a lot. I liked this movie more, but feel as I have seen the double standards and hypocrises by the PC crowd, that they are anti-white, anti-European and distracting attention off real issue facing America today.

What I don't like is the intellectual dishonesty by the PC crowd who paint everyone preaching personal responsibility as 'bigots'. It irritates me that the liberals didn't make a movie showing racism from the black leaders. Louis Farrakhan, Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton who simply make a living telling young blacks males that 'whitey is keeping you down' creates the same hatred and intolerance against whites that the Neo-Nazis were creating against blacks. The difference between a redneck putting on white sheets and a Black Racist is that the former has no resources and support to put his beliefs into action, yet the latter does.

Skinheads and KKK members are the VERY least of black's problems today. How about the fact that many black communities are plagued with illegitamate births, AIDS, crime, poverty, even in cities like Chicago, Detroit where there are black mayors?

If you think about it, this movie may just make whites hate blacks and minorities even more. As long as there is affirmative action, black leaders blaming all whites for their problems of blacks, Martin Luther King's dream will be nothing more than that...a dream.
