Summary: A good movie, freaky but unrealistic!
Review: Meet Joe Black should be rated R. Dont show this to a 10 year old. It was very good, extremely powerful, but in a way too scary. I loved the dvd effect.

Summary: Meet Joe Bust
Review: This movie was a true disappiontment in the blackest sense. Even the clever ending could not salvage this bust. The actual plot lacked substance but the subplot of the main character's life was interesting for about 10 minutes of the first three hours. Way too long to waste my limited time on. Just rent There's Something About Mary for the 40th time and your night will be much more enjoyable!

Summary: Pure entertainment from beginning to end.
Review: The drama, suspense, humor and sensitivity of the film is excellent. The entire cast is fantastic. Dialog varies from serious, romantic, and sensitive to humorous quips between characters.

The film doesn't rely on gimmicks like car chases and bombs going off. So don't sit back and wait to be wowed by special effects. To fully appreciate this movie you need to pay attention to what's being said. The reward is well worth the effort and you'll enjoy the acting and dialog.

The movie does have some spectacular views of Manhatten, the penthouse and lavish swimming pool, and the country estate approached by helicoptor. The DVD quality is technically excellent -- audio and visuals. It also contains extras including film history for each of the main actors and interesting commentary by actors and the director.

I've seen the movie ("Death Takes a Holiday") that MJB ws based on. I prefer MJB because it portrays life in the 90's -- it's easier to relate to. Even though it deals with the New York elite, it presents issues that are common to most people.

Claire Forlani is wonderful to watch. She portrays an intelligent, sensitive and fun character. Hopkins performance is amazing as always. My favorite scene is when he describes what his wife was like. It's so real as he wipes away the tears. A very touching scene.

The most impressive acting is by Brad Pitt. He has such diversity and range. His gestures, facial expressions, tone of voice are always in command. He plays someone confident, powerful, and in complete control. Yet he has a schoolboy quality when interacting with Susan. He seems vulnerable, clueless, naive, easily embarrased, and shy. The combination of qualities that Susan (Claire Forlani) finds so seductive and charming, yet mysterious. The attraction between these two is so intense. It's wonderful to watch them fall in love.

The interaction between Pitt and Hopkins is also fascinating. At first Joe (Pitt) is very stern explaining that "nothing is negotiable". As time goes on the tension builds between the two and finally mild mannered Joe has had enough -- telling Hopkins "how it is going to be" in a polite but forceful way. The vocal range goes from soft-spoken to fully raised voice and back again.

There is quite a bit of humor sprinkled throughout the movie to keep it light. I missed some of it the first time I saw the movie. While watching it later, I found some parts hilarious - especially the peanut butter scene in the kitchen and by the pool. What a ham (Pitt). He certainly plays up the boyish charm. He takes everything people say literally. In a way it pokes fun at familiar sayings. Some of Pitts behavior reminds me of Stanley Laurel (Laurel & Hardy). Maybe it's the slight English manner. I also cracked up when Pitt started speaking in Jamaican dialect.

It was interesting how mood was set using lighting (or makeup). When Hopkins first meets Joe, he has a very cold look with dark eyes and a stare that never blinks. Throughout the movie, Joe is a pleasant soft spoken character who smiles constantly - someone you would not normally associate with death. Later on, Susan looks at Joe and realizes that he's not there. His makeup is dull (or grey) - he looks ill. It's subtle but very eiry to see the transition.

Then there's the music. What a fantastic score and such variety! The movie is full of background music to set the mood. It's great to listen to -- even as the credits roll there's a really upbeat number playing. The movie is great from beginning to end.

Summary: A wonderful combination of acting, emotion and music!
Review: I've seen this movie several times and never get tired of seeing it. Like tiramisu -- a wonderful rich combination of flavors that can be enjoyed again and again.

The acting is superb. Performances are delivered with such precision and attention to gestures, facial expressions, and timing of dialog. The three main actors, Hopkins, Pitt and Forlani are excellent in their roles.

The music is beautifully orchestrated to blend with every scene. It definitely intensifies the emotion of the story.

I was intrigued by the storyline and expected to get a perspective on death and the afterlife. The movie touches on that, but focuses more on the celebration of life. The romance between Joe and Susan becomes the primary theme along with Joe's (death's) awe and discovery of life.

In contrast to the more serious drama in the film are scenes that convey a humorous note to the story with Joe's naive behaviour and mannerisms.

There is magic between Pitt and Forlani playing Joe and Susan. Their scenes convey so much passion. My favorite is the pool side scene. The lighting is gorgeous on these two beautiful young people. They radiate a distictively pink glow. Faces are shot in exteme close-up. The music builds and lips quiver, as the two experience each other for the first time.

The DVD provides very interesting details on the background of the movie. The actors comment on the roles and interaction with the other actors and the challenges that were encountered in making the movie.

I love watching movies, but never had one I considered my all time favorite. Now, I can definitely say this is it!

Summary: a real 'feel good' movie!
Review: A really cute movie- Brad Pitt (as usual) looks amazing and Anthony Hopkins is good too. Parts of this film tend to drag though...but on the whole its pretty absorbing. Great to watch alone on a weeknight- and if you arent into romantic films...watch it for Brad!!

Summary: not bad--have seen better
Review: this wasn't a bad film, but i have seen better. Brad Pitt did an outstanding job as Death, but Hopkins faltered a bit and fell into a bit of a cliched role...didn't really seem to gain any depth as a character until the end. the director gave us a pat ending that doesn't sit well after the previous three hours. the relationship between the father and daughters is also a little too cliche and lacking of depth, and the supporting characters (board members) were too predictable. well-intentioned film that fell short.

Summary: excellent, I loved it
Review: I enjoyed it so much, I want to see it again. Too bad they didn't make the DVD with spanish language or spanish subtitles. It is a beautiful movie.

Summary: Hard To Swallow In Places But Still Worth A Watch
Review: I came to the conclusion that "Meet Joe Black" was overall not a bad movie after I viewed it. The acting was well done. Both Brad Pitt and Anthony Hopkins did an excellent job. That aside though, the movie seemed to not make some since in places, and was hard to swallow. How could anyone that gets hit that severely by a car be able to operate their body like nothing happened? You would figure that the body would be too mangled no matter whose spirit was inside to control it properly. I'm sure I'm not the only one that thought about that. Maybe there miraculously weren't any injuries to the guy's body after the wreck before the spirit that became known as Joe Black inhabited it? Maybe Joe Black just temporarily kicked the other guy's soul out? But that aside, this was a pretty good movie. Worth a watch.

Summary: This is one of the most profound and best films ever made.
Review: Woody Allen has attempted many existential films that acknowledge both death and the miraculous existence of life. Meet Joe Black takes Woody Allens themes and presents them in a risky - but quite successful - directing style. This film will become one of the classics of American cinema. Enjoy the realization of the potential of American cinema!

Summary: Very romantic and impressive
Review: I have so much to say after watching this movie. I have seen the critics and the results are extremely different. Some people like it but some hate it, extremely.

Hopkins, without doubt, still the best. Bard Pitt is surprising good, especially when he plays the Death part. He acts like he really doesn't know how to do things in human world. He is so naive and innocent. He make the two differnt role totally differnt, even though with the same appearance.

Claire Forlani is even better. I have never notices her existence on the big screen even though I have seen the rock. This movie kept my eye on her, especially her smile when she saw her love " Joe Black ". It looks like she is really deeply in love with her in real. The movie doesn't have many spaces for her to develop but she did so well on her part. Even without any words or gestures, you can feel her strong and intense passion by just seeing her expression. I like to know more about her due to the information on the DVD's intorduction part is not enough. Also, I would like to see her other movies because her excellent performance in this movie.

In short, this movie becomes one of my favorites. Two-thumbs up.
