Summary: Hopkins always great.
Review: This movie was not all bad, Anthony Hopkins can carry a movie. Brad Pitt has alot of talent but was not used effectively in this movie. The young female lead seemed to always be thinking about something else, eyes always wandering and mumbling her lines. Movie was too long.

Summary: Superb Movie!
Review: I haven't seen a movie this good in years! The only movie that even comes close is "Somewhere in Time" and that was nearly twenty years ago. This movie is so much better in terms of complex relationships and interaction between characters. It's sort of a tapestry of stories woven together to form a masterpiece...and the music is fantastic!

This is a romantic movie, but not a tear jerker that makes you confuse sadness and love. It has an unusual concept of death wanting to experience life and then finding himself falling in love. Susan is stangely attacted to "Joe" (death) even thought she doesn't know much about him. He's so mysterious and quiet about where he is from and what kind of work he does.

The settings are very picturesque and rich with color. The acting is so well done among the main characters you get the feeling you're watching a play rather than a movie. Hopkins is great as ever. Forlani is surprisingly good and quite natural playing Susan. Pitt is impressive playing roles as Joe and the guy from the coffee shop. Finally a role where Brad Pitt plays a likeable character and he does it so well!

The love scene is like no other I've ever seen in a movie. Beautifully tender and passionate shown in extreme closeup so you can see the facial expressions of both. The lighting, music and acting all come together to create a powerful moment in the story.

The movie's message conveys so much about life and the ones we love. It also communicates a strong message about passion, rapture and finding someone who makes you feel alive. What a feel good movie -- makes you wish it would never end!

Summary: Great performances by Forlani, Pitt and Hopkins!
Review: It's hard to believe this movie is three hours long. They packed so much into this drama/romance. Every scene introduces yet another aspect to the story that presents a source of tension or conflict.

The romance between Susan and Joe is wonderful. There is definitely chemistry between Forlani and Pitt.

The interaction between Pitt and Hopkins is also powerful. Hopkins slowly starts to show his anger with Joe for spending time with his daughter. Pitt reacts casually as he dismisses Hopkins objections. Bill (Hopkins) uses some strong language with Joe, which seems to have no effect other than to have Joe warn Bill to be careful. Later, Joe (Pitt) finally gets irritated with Bill, slams his fist down and says firmly "Enough! I know what I want and what I want is Susan." It's the first time Joe as death shows any sort of hostile emotion. This scene was a great demonstration of two powerful actors in verbal conflict. Very impressive how Pitt held his own against Hopkins in a battle over Susan!

Summary: The Movie Of The Decade, A Real Winner!
Review: I think the movie was a beautifully written script, with lots of tasteful humor. Claire Forlani played the well-to-do perfect doctor daughter of a very rich entrpeneur, who is portrayed by Anthony Hopkins. When a guy that Claire meets dies, death takes his place and with many twists and turns, ends up meeting again with Claire, and takes an interest in peanut butter. After trying to resist Joe's charm, Claire gives up and gives in to Joe's charming style. No more said for those who haven't seen it!

I give it a fiver for the style, sophistcated way of script, and just because I am a softy when it comes to romantic comedys with Brad in it. Many people say that he can't act just because of some shaky starts and bad movie reviews from the past. I say this is the movie of the decade and will live forever, even with death!

Summary: It makes me feel so deep inside!
Review: I just can't forget every word that had been said between Joe and Susan. Peanut butter is the most "passion" word for me, can you imagine that kind of feeling? And I still remember when Susan wanted Joe to choose either peanut butter or her, which one is his favourite, Thank God, Joe choose Susan. CUTE! I will put this film in my deepest heart forever and ever.

Summary: Horrible
Review: It's very sad to read reviews written by teenagers. Do you really think this is a great movie?! Brad Pitt is one of the worst actors in the world. Even when he's acting with a great actor like Hopkins his performance is always ridicolous. But, of course, teenagers that think Pitt gorgeous don't think that way. That's why they spend their money buying movies like this one.

Summary: What a range of acting by Brad Pitt!
Review: OK, the guy has played some weird roles in some rather bad movies -- but he's always played them well. This movie takes full advantage of Pitt's talent by having him play the nice guy, tough guy, intelligent, sensitive, compassionate and romantic. There are scenes where he is actually funny even though it's presented in a subtle way. I found myself laughing out loud several times and couldn't believe I was watching a movie about death! So now Brad is playing his best role ever in a great movie and the critics seemed to pan the movie anyway.

Hopkins and Forlani are also excellent in their roles. Hopkins gives a wonderful performance as a loving father and powerful business man faced with death, but having to hide it from his family. Claire Forlani plays the part of his beautiful and intelligent daughter so well. She's constantly probing into Joe's situation to find out why he is living in her father's house meanwhile falling in love with this stranger and teaching Joe about love (something that is obviously new to him).

The contrast between Pitt, the lawyer in the coffee shop and Pitt as Joe is fascinating. The guy in the coffee shop is opimistic, fun, lively and a great conversationalist. He smiles and laughs easily making Susan extremely attracted to him. Pitt as death (Joe) is quite different even though he looks the same. Joe is quiet, serious, mysterious, and somewhat clueless about people. As time goes on, Joe becomes more comfortable and Susan gets him to smile after his first kiss and he get a "week feeling" in his knees. The love scene is beautifully done and shows Susan undressing Joe. They get to the point where he can't get his shirt off all the way and he has this huge grin looking at Susan. I loved that part!

There is a lot of conflict in this movie too. Many of the characters have personal issues to work out. It seems like a simple story but actually has several stories being told.

Summary: A movie about personal experience, about art recreation.
Review: I have watched Meet Joe Black three times and eventually bought the video tape. At first, nothing more but trying to catch up with the story, language, actors' move. It was the logic mind walking through the movie. The second time is sensational. Two days I got obsessed. Tears along with profound feelings poured out of rigid daily routine life. The greatness of the movie has to be adored because what else we can expect from an art work? It is not something a viewer appreciates in distance, like most good movies in mainstream. This one goes into mind, talking to the soul, to the very bottom of heart. Funny how, then I searched through the web to find piece by piece reviews about the actors and the movie. After read almost all the critics, the third time the movie is just as plain as what was criticized by the critics, lengthy, slow paced, Brad Pitt, language, ...

So I am convinced that movie like Meet Joe Black is about personal experience, if it is viewed by eyes with trust, by minds free of fixed concepts. It's about art recreation, about you the viewer. I haven't seen a great movie like this for a long long time.

Summary: Boring but descent
Review: This movie spends hours leading up to nothing. I kept watching because I thought something was going to happen but it ended on a weak note. Pitt's first caracter was animated, then he was reincarnated with death and was a boring and lifeless caracter. The movie has two settings, this dudes house and his work place. Most of the movie consists of the camera watching 1 or 2 characters while they stare at one another or some one else, kind of like a soap opera.

Well I'll tell you what I would of done if death visited me, first I would of asked many questions, this guy just was like oh, your death, ok. Second I would of tried to kill HIM, could I kill death? An interesting proposition.

A bettter movie consisting of Pitt unleashing death is "Kalifornia". Here he plays a serial killer with David Ducuvny [interestingly enough a profiler on the best tv show "the X-files"]trying to figure him and all serial killers out. Julliet Lewis play's Pitt's caracter's girlfriend. She is phenominal. Pitt conformes to his caracter so well its awesome. While watching Ducuvny I can't help but think of him as Fox Mulder, maybe I have seen to many X-files episodes. He's still good and if you like him you should see the movie "playing god", see the x-files movie too.

By the way, Ebert I hear you, "Normal Life" was one of the best movies of the year. If you need a critic partner I'm here for you. Your reviews are always right on.

Summary: You gotta see this one - the acting and music is amazing!
Review: Hopkins is perfect as a wealthy powerful businessman, and loving father. Claire Forlani is beautiful, sensuous, intelligent and fun. Brad Pitt is mysterious, terrifying, passionate, quirky, and funny. The movie is romantic and delightful, thought provoking and uplifting, sad but not sentimental, mysterious and suspensful, funny and full of celebration! Need I say more? You got to see this one!
