Summary: Death takes a holiday-the sequel.
Review: Beautifully filmed and superbly acted,Hopkins does another of his effortless star turns.Brad Pitt and Miss Forlani pull out all the stops just to keep up.I liked the whole premise of the story and the ending was inevitable but sorry it was just too long to hold my attention-the story could have been told in two hours max! Better luck next time Mr Brest.

Summary: Incredibly Sensitive Beautiful Story Line, Great Acting
Review: I just saw this DVD and I was so impressed by the delicate feelings expressed throughout the movie, but shocked that it didn't do so well at the movies. It goes to show us that people nowadays prefer violent movies. This movie was incredibly sensitive, the acting was fantastic, by all actors involved, Anthony Hopkins, Brad Pitt and the rest. I haven't seen such a delicate and sensitive story in years! Thank you Mr. Brest! What's wrong wiith people? Have we become so ignorant that we cannot accept something so beautiful?

Summary: So well done - what a wonderful movie!!
Review: "Meet Joe Black" and Martin Brest should have beennominated for Oscars for this wonderful work. It has a great story, acting, and music. The story conveys the similarity between being on vacation and experiencing life with all its adventures. It's a little long, but you don't notice because it's easy to get involved in the story and you don't want it to end.

The beautiful Claire Forlani as Susan is superb. I was in awe of her performance. For such a young actress she shows real maturity in her delivery. Brad Pitt is offbeat as the two guys she meets, but he's very entertaining too. He played both parts extremely well. I know some people don't take him seriously as an actor, but he definitly deserves credit for his performance in MJB. He appears to have fun with the role of death and falling in love with Susan. He's really mysterious and secretive, yet likeable at the same time.

I liked the character Drew too. He added some humor with his sophisticated wise cracks. Jeffrey Tambor who played Quince was also good. He played such a suck-up. He would say anything to be liked. In some ways, this movie had something to do with his character versus the more influential characters who had more powerful personalities. Susan starts out being Drew's girlfriend and her father gives her such wonderful advice about finding passion and rapture in her love life. Susan slowly transforms from a person "trying to be agreeable" to someone going after what she wants and willing to express what she truly feels.

I loved the movie ending - such a celebration of life. It makes you realize that if you've lived your life to it's fullest, then you can accept when it's your time to go.

Summary: SENSATIONAL!
Review: An unusual and interesting story with excellent acting throughout. Interpersonal conflict mixed with a fascinating love story. I loved the scene where Susan talks with the stranger in the coffee shop and without exchanging names discuss rather personal issues. Brad Pitt plays this character so well and naturally - highly animated with lots of smiles and gestures. So much personal charm and appeal. You would expect him to ask Susan out or at least get her phone number. They obviously hit it off, but after all the chit chat they part realizing that they may not meet again. How sad! The music brings out this emotion so that you personally feel the loss of an opportunity that might have sparked a wonderful romance is gone forever.

When Susan sees the guy again and Death has taken his body, she's put off that he doesn't seem the same charming guy she was smitten with in the shop earlier that day. Claire Forlani is another natural for her role as Susan. She conveys so much with her facial expression and the timing of her dialog. Pitt's part as death is peculiar indeed. Awkward, uncertain yet extremely polite. Brad plays this part with a great deal of quirkiness and subtle humor. He's really entertaining. The movie and dialog plays slowly. It allows the viewer to really study and absorb what's going on. As death, Joe pursues Susan with the same fervor as the guy in the coffee shop but with less animation, he's much more formal and rather stiff - always dressed in black, like an undertaker.

Hopkins is equally impressive as Susan's father. he plays the role with the excellence you expect to see from Anthony Hopkins. Another wonderful performance! He's determined to keep his business from being derailed even though has little time left. He conveys so much affection for his family all the time keeping the secret that his life is about to end.

The music throughout this movie is filled with emotion and fits each scene perfectly. I loved the music so much I bought the Soundtrack CD.

"Meet Joe Black" is a highly personal experience. It may not click with everyone, but for those who appreciate its message, it offers much to ponder about relationships, and seeking passion in work, love and life itself.

Summary: WONDERFULLY entertaining drama!
Review: My wife and I loved story, acting, music, and cinematography. The witty lines in some of the scenes were unexpected from a story like this. The humor is subtle and fits well into the drama which seems like theatre acting. The romantic scenes are captivating and very tastefully done.

It's difficult to understand why the critics gave this movie bad reviews. Possibly it's because it was released on Friday the 13th of November and therefore doomed to fail. Aside from superstition, what could explain poor reviews for entertainment that offers so much from such talented actors is puzzling. The music score alone is worth 3 stars!

Interesting too, customer reviews with one star are next to reviews having five stars. Some viewers appreciate the movie so much when others can't find anything worthwhile to say about it. However, there seems to be a pattern. Those who like it provide details and describe specifically what they loved about the movie. They've connected with the messages in the movie and given it considerable thought even after watching the show. The one star reviews provide a couple sentences that don't identify specific weaknesses. It makes sense that those who don't take the time to be explicit would probably not delve into a story with as much depth as "Meet Joe Black" and develop an appreciation for the story, dialog, or nuances in the acting that make this movie so wonderful. I can't imagine why that type of viewer would select a movie like this.

Summary: One of the best romances ever!
Review: First of all I love this movie! The emotions this movie emotes in my heart is something no movie of this type has ever done. It's a very compelling story and it's very well acted. I don't think the critics gave the movie much credit but I think this movie is amazing. I saw in the theaters and now I've seen it numurous times on my DVD and it still has the same effect on me as the first time I watched this awesome piece of film. In fact it got better for me as I saw it over and over. The emotions that are acted out on the screen are so real to me that I get tears in my eyes. I love this movie and I recommend it to any romance/drama movie fan. There is no other movie like it.

Summary: Appalling Hollywood Bunk
Review: This cloying, self-important, vacuous exercise in sheer futility is - without exaggeration - perhaps one of the very worst pieces of trash ever churned out by the seemingly-bottomless rubbish bin known as Hollywood. Brad Pitt's pretty-boy smugness is twice as empty as the plotless script - the guy has obviously gotten by a good deal of his life without much effort, and it shows in his performance, (a performance, which, might I add, received more than a few laughs in the theater during some of the most supposedly "serious" moments of the film). You almost feel sorry for the great Anthony Hopkins, who doesn't seem to know what to do with the lines he's being fed. I would rather watch Animal House II for 48 hours straight than waste another two hours of my life sitting through this one. I already regret having wasted 10 minutes writing this review.
