Summary: Intellectually stimulating while fantastically sensual
Review: Hands down, this movie is intended to pluck the strings in the hearts and minds of those who are capable of understanding the generally simple yet contextually intricate conflicts that take place within each of the main characters and between them. As Death enters the world as a human, he is faced with drives, senses, and desires characteristic of one. He learns of the heart-throbbing reality of emotional love, as well as the stimulating (to say the least :-)) power of physical love. He must, in a compressed period of time, grow as a man to understand the responsibility that comes with truly loving someone - the very human gesture of sacrifice. Paralell to the growth of Joe as a man, Bill Parrish must come to terms with the life he lived and the death he is facing, and he proves himself a man of such character, inner strength, and spirit as to be capable of entering the "valley of shadows" with total satisfaction, having gained all in this life that he dreamed of, hoped for, and having received all the rewards he did and did not expect. He succeeded as a businessman, a father, became a man beloved by all he met and touched - he lived a "first-class life." And, of course, the emotional development of Joe, Bill, and his daughter Susan are held together in the plot with a story of corporate intrigue, betrayal, and the strength of truth and friendship that ultimately restores the dethroned Bill to the head of his corporate empire.

"Meet Joe Black" is an intellectual movie that perfectly balances the emotions of (romantic as well as parental) love, friendship and honesty and the realities of deceit and betrayal. It has a smoothly-flowing plot enriched by truly beautiful soul-touching music.

Summary: ...
Review: This isn't as slow as the press reviews made it. But it is slow. I loved the beautiful cinematography and the beautiful Claire Forlanni. Brad Pitt seems like a nice person, so I don't dislike him, but I'm an actor, and I'm a better actor than he is, and I'm better looking than he is! (As monumentally conceited as that sounds!) And I'm out of work, and he's making $20 million for giving sub-par performances like this one. Brad Pitt is evidence that the cream does not rise to the top. Anthony Hopkins, however, gives a wonderful, underplayed, natural performance.

Summary: Believable, if you believe in things supernatural . . .
Review: Good literature and screenplays require that you suspend disbelief to immerse yourself into the story. This is necessary for "Meet Joe Black." If you can do this, then you can enjoy this movie. The acting is not necessarily better than other good movies; it is the total package that rates high. For example: (1) the supernatural element of death taking a holiday, (2) the possibility of love-at-first-sight, and (3) gracefully accepting the inevitability of death. This is what this movie depicts. Don't expect more, because you will be disappointed (although you will get more); I wasn't and will never be, when I view this time and again.

Summary: Meet Joe Who? Brad Pitt? Good enough for me!
Review: I've seen alot of Brad Pitt movies... but i have to say that this one is the best! Not just because he looks like an angel (when he should be looking like death), but it's how a love story should be told. A love story without fate is like Brad Pitt without his 'sexy' status. It's just unthinkable. I only gave it 4 stars because I watched the whole thing over a few days and it didn't effect me the way it should have. i had to watch it a over a few times after to remember the links in the script. So I suggest you watch it all at once! It should make some sence then! BRAD PITT FAN? THIS ONE'S FOR YOU!

Summary: It's a hidden beauty...
Review: I suppose the movie was either not promoted well or came out at an auspicious time - it was just swept under the carpet. But after stumbling into this movie accidentally, I have been telling everyone about it. It is a beautiful movie marked with sensitive acting & realistic (albeit having the grim reaper follow you) interpersonal scenes. The story line is quite intriguing. Definitely, Brad Pitt is phenomenal in this movie; his portrayal is both believeable (again, if you could be so lucky to have him as the grim reaper!) and very moving. Although this is not primarily a "chick flik", there is one particular love scene that is SO REAL, it should frighten Jennifer Anniston!

Summary: Meet Joe Black, sooner or later everyone does...
Review: Around the time this came out, movies 3 hours or over always seemed to fit the rep of a bad movie. Most people cannot sit through a movie more than 2 hours, but there are percentage of us who can if the movie is interesting as with this movie. Everything about this movie is very enjoyable. It is so odd that this movie was in the works since 1984 and is great remake of Death takes a Holiday. Brad Pitt's performance is exceptional and I have always been a fan of Anthony Hopkins. This is the type of movie you do not mind seeing more than once even though it is 3 hours long. I find myself having the same reactions to the movie everytime I see it again. The sountrack is superb and the music blends into the movie producing more emotion everytime you see it. This movie is one you need to add to your library, you will more than likely get the urge to watch it again after you see it.

Summary: One Of Brad's Best
Review: Even though "Meet Joe Black" did not too well in movie theaters, it is an amaxing movie. The way the actors potray emotions and thoughts without saying a word, is what make this movie so great. The chemistry between Claire Forlani and Brad Pitt is HOT. Though at time this movie can be a bit slow and fairy tale like, is is truly worth seeing.

Summary: Awesome, Simply Awesome
Review: Well, glancing through the reveiws it looked like just about everyone either really really loved it or really really hated it, which i can understand. i thought it was a wnderful, attention-grabbing, interesting, thought-provking movie, but if you aren't into anything like that it would be a drag.

Meet Joe Black is about, well, Joe Black. Who is death. And, unfortunatley, arrives near the beginning of the movie to take one of the main characters. Both Brad Pitt and Anthony hopkins do an excellent job throughout the movie. They were well casted and truly did superbly with their parts.

Not only was this movie interesting and very serious, it also had parts that, yes, had me laughing out loud.

So just take good, multiply it by infinity, take that to the power of forever and you may have the faintest idea of what I'm talking about (I know if don't have the quote right, but is it close enough for those of you who have seen the movie? Oh well, if you see it you will understand what I'm talking about)

Summary: Sensual and Satifsying
Review: Yes, Brad Pitt's appearance in this remade version of "Death Takes A Holiday" drew me into this film as...well... as heaping spoonfuls of peanut butter did to Joe Black!

You see, "Death" as a person, had never allowed himself to experience such pleasures. But when he takes over the body of an anonymous accident victim, "Death" is introduced into the lushly privileged world of Anthony Hopkins' wealthy character including his beguilling daughter.

Texturally woven and beautifully filmed, "Meet Joe Black" allows us to see Death as a person. As someone who doesn't like what he does, he just has to do it. And even he has his moments of remorse.

Want to hear a confession? In my fantasy world, if Brad Pitt is death, I am no longer afraid of it.....bring it on, I'll bring the Peter Pan!

Thanks for your interest in my comments--CDS
