Summary: Decadent and Delicious - Beautiful and Bawdy
Review: This film is unique in its approach to a subject that is absolutely taboo - child prostitution. Louis Malle's movie presents this little piece of history that was New Orleans' Storyville Red Light District from the perspective of a group of characters who lived the life in the early 1900s and the viewer is somewhat of a voyeur into the bedrooms and activities of some beautiful women, an absolutely stunning child, and a unique Madam. All of this is set against an ethereal background of jazz, Victorian furnishings, and yard animals. I re-watch this movie occasionally and never tire of the dialogue and the languid atmosphere that pervades the movie just like a humid, sunny New Orleans day after the rain has stopped.

Summary: A well written movie about a taboo subject
Review: This is a very racy movie, but worth watching none the less. Shields is a child prostitute who finds love and compassion in a much older man. It has a very good ending. This is not the type of movie that you would want young children to see. I would also suggest that you only watch it with someone that you are very comfortable with.

Summary: Fast forward review
Review: This is the ultimate for lolita sleaze fans, who not only own the film, but also jpg's, frame by frame, of the crucial scenes. When you take Blue Lagoon I into account, and the low likelyhood of this kind of nudity ever being tolerated again, that pretty much makes BS the all-time lolita star.

OK, for the newbies, we got near full-frontal underage nudity here, and almost complete in the tub scene if you slow it down. The principal scene is the extended photography session, which includes both front and boo-tok nudity, but there are a couple of others worth having as well. The five stars is maybe a bit excessive for the nudity content alone, but it deserves sleaze respect for its iconic status.

Summary: a sad serious movie
Review: this movie caused a scandal as it should for having a young nude brooke shields if u get beyond that its a sad look at child prostitution in the late 1800s brooke shields plays violette daughter of a prostitute living at a brothel soon violette is groomed as the new prostitute a photographer shows up simply to take pictures of her mom for a magazine violette kinda falls for him and eventually moves out of the brothel to marryhim then her mother returns with a new sickman to steal her away as it ends a sad artsy movie but most true film critics should see it beware has beatings young nudity and many disturbing themes

Summary: Concludes there is a need for childhood.
Review: This movie was made long before the plight of child prostitutes in Asia became a popular feminist issue, and it examines the history on our own shore. But at first glance, some viewers might find it too sympathetic to the arousal of pedophiles: a still pre-pubescent Shields is photographed in prococious glamour. But her character is more subtly shown as the victim she really is. She is abandoned by her mother, sold and beaten by her cruel Madame, and raped by her customers. Her early marriage is a welcome escape into the arms of someone who shows her tenderness, albeit interspersed with the bereavement of his own deviance. As their union is shown to be unworkable, she becomes an alcoholic. Finally her husband gives her a doll, and the child emerges. The bittersweet conclusion is one of my favorites in all of cinema. This movie is not brilliantly acted, but it is well written and thoughtfully directed. It is certainly not for family viewing, but it deserves more attention than the place it holds on the back shelves of university district video stores.

Summary: A look inside the Red Light District
Review: This story takes place at the turn of the century in New Orleans'. A prostitute becomes pregnant decides to keep her baby and gives birth to a daughter named Violet. They live in the brothel where she continues to work. Twelve years later, Violet is old enough to attract the attentions of the brothel's customers. Her mother agrees to have her virginity auctioned off to the customers of the house. The story really starts when Violet draws the affections of Bellocq, a photographer who has been working on a photo series about prostitutes. Violet's blend of childlike innocence and adult sensuality is profoundly attractive to him, but their relationship quickly becomes a problem. Whoch os enhanced when her mother leaves Violet behind to get married. The film's sexual content is sensual without being especially graphic. This is really a film about desire and attraction.

Summary: Provocative, yet Truthful
Review: To day something like this would not happen, but in the days this move is in, it was common. What people will do to try to make themselfs happy. Like they say, the grass is always greener on the other side!
