Summary: PRECISELY the way films should be done
Review: There are several very good movies out there, that hit almost all the right notes. And there are even fewer GREAT movies, and these hit ALL the right notes. The Shawshank Redemption is one of them. This story, written in a believable, 3-dimensional tone, is touching, frightening, inspiring, and eventually uplifting. I thoroughly disagree with those that called this film hollow and predictable. The music was great, the acting outstanding, and the direction first-rate. This one deserves a spot on everyone's shelf.

Summary: Inspiring Top-Ten Film---but did Jeff Shannon see it?!?
Review: I love THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION. Robbins is fantastic, Freeman is (as always) perfect. Direction is magnificent. The opening fly-by shot of the bus arriving at Shawshank is a classic piece of cinemaphotography.But I'm baffled by the review by Jeff Shannon (above). Specifically, when Shannon writes "we realize there's reason to believe the banker's crime was justifiable," WHAT ON EARTH IS HE TALKING ABOUT?!? Just for starters, the banker DIDN'T COMMIT THE CRIME! And nowhere in the film is it even vaguely implied that it was a justifiable crime---JUSTIFIABLE DOUBLE HOMICIDE? HUH?!? I know there are a lot of films to write about on Amazon.com---but you still need to watch AND PAY ATTENTION to each one, Jeff!

Summary: Best Movie of the 90's by far
Review: Its amazing to me to read the two negative reviews of this film, because quite frankly, it has moved me like no film before or since. For one, the direction and style of the film are superb, and the way the incredibly gorgeous music of Thomas Newman enhances the wonderful story and acting is unsurpassed in my mind. The first time you watch this movie you're in for a treat. Please if you haven't seen this movie, take a look....it will restore you're faith in cinema as an artform and move you emotionally.

Review: The Shawshank Redemption is a masterpiece, one of the top 5 movies of all times but nevertheless it doesn't get the recognition it deserves. The vhs is out of production, no dvd released yet and no sign of it. This has to change, everybody should own this movie. Amazon help us with this.

Review: I just don't have words to express how much I loved this movie. One of the best ever. It deserved the oscar by far, the actors, the plot, the acting. I have seen it 5 times and I love it everytime. SUPER!!!! Quotes like "Get busy living or get busy dying" or the longer one below are seriously to be considered and make you think. Friendship and Hope. "I find I'm so excited I can barely sit still or hold a thought in my head. I think it's the excitement only a free man can feel. A free man at the start of a long journey who's conclusion is uncertain. I hope I can make it across the border. I hope to see my friend and shake his hand. I hope the Pacific is as blue as it has been in my dreams. I hope...." Wow!! If it wasn't for hope, Red would have gotten busy dying as Brooks did. Hope is a wonderful thing.

Summary: A great classic!
Review: Not enought great things can be said of Shawshank. A movie in the tradition of the best Kubrick and Oliver Stone films that combines the wistfullness of F. Scott Fitzgerald all in one. Not only are the cold depths and struggles of the human spirit portrayed, but also the hopes and dreams that each one of us has. Stephen King and the director portray the beauty and hope of the human struggle and spirit remarkably in such a way that I have only seen F. Scott Fitzgerald parallel in his writing. To say the least this movie is a must see and already a great classic! I do not say that to be dramatic or overly judgemental, but to truly place this movie in a category of the greats.

Review: Don't pay any attention to the "BORING" review from Orlando. This film is unlike any other. You would have to be either crazy or a liar to not profusely enjoy this film. I'd reccomend it to anyone, so DON'T MISS IT!!!!
