Review: Maltin missed the boat on this one. His last sentence should have read " ...Darabont adapted and IMPROVED King's novella...". Every change from the book's content made this movie better than the book, and that is rare. This movie should have won the Oscar, but an awkward title and the Gump express were too much to overcome.

Summary: A classic movie gets even better on DVD
Review: I loved the Shawshank Redemption when I first saw it, and I knew it would one of the first movies I would want on DVD. Luckily The Shawshank Redemption has been available on DVD in Region 2 (Europe) for quite a while, and it is terrific. The DVD experience adds to the movie by allowing the viewer even greater focus on its wonderful detail. If you're just starting to build a DVD collection this is a must have.

Review: I don't think if there's enough words i can use to describe how i feel after seeing the movie, i was stunned. I have so much more respect in Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman after this movie. There are not so many movies out there can truly reveal the talent these actors have and certainly no movies can touch and inspire us like Shawshank Redemption. Simply the best.

That choice is what makes the movie "unpredictable". AFI missed the boat when this didn't make their top 10 list!

Summary: One of the greatest films ever made
Review: There are a lot of people (and I mean a lot) who think that The Shawshank Redemption is the greatest film ever made. Is it? It's certainly close and it deserves a lot more recognition. I'll admit I had my doubts about watching this film because I thought it was going to be slow and even boring. The idea of prison movie will seem like an incredibly dull experience for some viewers, but trust me, The Shawshank Redemption is the farthest thing from dull. It's one of the most moving and dramatic tales I've ever seen. There's also some humor and suspense to spice up the film. The real thing that makes this film work is the brilliant character development and chemistry of Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins) and Redding (Morgan Freeman). Red is the one who feels he has no hope left in life and even wonders if he should live. Andy is the hope in Red's life. Their friendship is slow to start at first but becomes a stable foundation for many years to come even if it is behind bars. Trust me, if you haven't seen The Shawshank Redemtion, you're missing out on a true cinematic masterpiece.

Review: I must agree with so many others before me. This movie was recommended to me by a few friends who thought it was wonderful. I've seen it twice and thought it was the best movie (of its kind) that I've ever seen. I highly recommend it!

Review: All i can say is that this movie would have won the Oscar if it wasn't for that Forest Gump movie which i like too, but not enough for the golden man! I believe Gump won it that year. I could be wrong, but nontheless, Shawshank deserve that trophy anyway.
