Summary: A surprisingly powerful movie
Review: I usually don't watch movies that are strictly love stories all that often, but every now and then I'll watch one of them. My mom told me that "Bridges of Madison County" was her favorite movie of all time and I knew that since she didn't like Clint Eastwood, that it had to be a truly great movie. And it turned out that it was to say the least.

I've always been a fan of Clint Eastwood movies such as "The Gauntlet," "Escape From Alcatraz," and "Firefox." Clint Eastwood proved that he could do just as good of a job in a love story with "Bridges of Madison County," and he also directed the movie.

"Bridges of Madison County" is a story about a lonely housewife (Meryl Streep) and a photographer (Clint Eastwood) who briefly meet and find out some things about each other and themselves. I'm glad my mom told me to watch this movie because it's without a doubt one of the best movies of its type that I've ever seen or ever will see.

When it comes to content, "Bridges of Madison County" has it all. I thought the acting was superb by Streep and Eastwood, its musical score fits in with all the different moods at the right times, and it never gets boring at all. Whether movies about love or romance are your favorite or whether they're not one of your favorite kinds of movies, you gotta see "Bridges of Madison County" if you have the slightest hint of a heart inside you. You won't regret watching it! I recommend buying it no matter what the price.

Summary: Get out your Handkerchiefs!
Review: Clint Eastwood's film, "The Bridges of Madison County" will break your heart for a number of reasons: Eastwood is woefully miscast and does his best to ruin this film with his wooden, stoic portrayal of Robert, the "wrap-around story" is ridiculous and the actors in it are amateurish at best and Meryl Streep is achingly, beautifully effective as Francesca. There are very few scenes in the movies that are as effective as Streep in her husband's old pick-up truck her hand sqeezing the door handle, tears running down her cheeks, rain pouring down outside wondering whether she should make a run for it into Robert's rain drenched arms. Corny? Melodramatic? Effective? Yes Yes Yes. This is first class Melodrama done as well as it ever has been. Did my rugby buds and I embarass ourselves by almost sobbing out loud? Yes. What were we doing watching this film in the first place? Good Question. But seriously this is a first rate adaptation of a third rate "weepie" novella and I loved every minute of it.

Summary: A Romance Eternal
Review: Just want to echo the chorus of praise for this greatly underrated film. I still cry everytime I see it-very few films have this profound effect on me. This film says pretty much everything one can possibly say about having a soulmate and the ecstasy and agony of a bittersweet love that lives on in the spirit and heart long after the flesh is gone......sigh............just get a glass of wine, turn off the phones and be taken away. :)

Summary: Streep and Eastwood Make Up For Any Faults
Review: If you don't know the story - Streep plays a lonely Iowa farm housewife who accidentally meets Clintwood, a photographer from National Geographic shooting pictures of bridges. They flirt, they picnic, they have fun, they have an affair. It's a fairly good adaption of the novel. Be forewarned that the story is told through flashbacks from Streeps two adult children after she passes away and they find her 'letters'. The storyline works, but when these two actors jump in, it's like amateur time. Who ARE these two actors? Leave it to our veteran actors to polish an already good story. A great mood piece and one to put romance and perspective back into your life.

Summary: Clint Eastwood last of the Giants in Hollywood
Review: This movie is so emotional and it proove if it was necessary that Clint Eastwood is a giant in the film industry the last one i mean! This DVD is perfect for discovering all the sensibility of this man who are not only "Dirty Harry".

Summary: Only slightly better than the book
Review: What are the chances of finding new love on your doorstep when you've been married for years, living on a farm in Iowa? Very slim. Yet it happens in The Bridges Of Madison County.

What made this movie a bit better than the book was the sense of humor of both characters - something that was sorely lacking in the written format. A scene where Robert picks flowers for Francesca is made more endearing in the film when Francesca mischieviously jokes about them being poisonous.

Neither the book nor the film convinced me that this was truly love. I strongly feel that both characters saw in the other a life that was unfamiliar and alluring to them. Robert saw a life settled down in one place and Francesca saw a life of roaming the world, finding adventure. I think they fell in love with that possibility, not each other. But neither of them realized it and instead mistook it for a deep, romantic love.

Summary: Two stars is generous
Review: This could have been quite a good movie but the selection of actors was inappropriate. Streep was from the first scene too worldly to be believable.

The story had potential, but Eastwood was probably too close to the film to do it justice. He too was unconvincing. The brother and sister get the alocades here, for their excellent supporting roles.

The sound track was relentlessly boring and stereotyped. During the dance scenes I considered switching it off, but I am glad I did see the ending. I'll read the book.

Summary: BEAUTIFUL
Review: I JUST LOVED IT ! I SAW THIS MOVIE 3 TIMES ALREADY AND I WOULD WATCH IT AGAIN & AGAIN & AGAIN.... THIS MOVIE DOES NOT GLORIFY ADULTERY LIKE ONE OF THE VIEWER SAID... IT GLORIFY A WOMAN TRYING TO SURVIVE HER DECEPTIONS OF LIFE... SHE LOVES HER HUSBAND, SHE LOVES HER CHILDREN BUT LIKE MANY OF US SHE SACRIFIED A LOT TO THEM... MERYL STREEP WOULD HAVE DESERVE ANOTHER OSCAR FOR HER BEAUTIFUL WORK...

Summary: Bridges of Madison County
Review: Life isn't always full of sex, drugs, profanity, and action, and we can't expect every movie to be a no-brainer like most movies in the mainstream continue to be. That's why true movie connoisseurs appreciate a work of art with true moviemaking ability when one finally comes out - the Bridges of Madison County is unmatchable. This movie brings back a time when life was simpler and the music was good. Clint Eastwood has captured that certain quality and ambience that is characteristic of rural life.
