Summary: Mediocrity didn't kill the genius!
Review: In fact, looking back to the 18-th century's history, it often has, but not in this case. W. A. Mozart died very young and wasn't fully and deservedly appreciated and hailed as one of the greatest geniuses in human history until his death; there was a musician named Antonio Salieri at the court, but his relationship to Mozart wasn't that intense. But what the heck? If the script were different F. Murray Abraham wouldn't have offered us his undisputably best performance ever and this movie would have been very different, although I consider it to be an artistical work rather than a historical one, and as such it totally deserves all the Academy Awards it won that year: "Mediocrities everywhere, I absolve you all!"

Summary: Wow Woulfgang!
Review: As many music enthusiasts know, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was one of the most talented composers of all time, truly was, and is believed to of been influenced purely by god. This movie describes Mozart's life from his worst enemy's point of view after his death when Soliert is emitted to an insane asylum. From childhood to the end of Wolfgang's life he tickled the keys of the piano always with his father's approval, unlike Soliert, he had to wait for his father to die.
Through their differences in like they still seem to cross paths after Wolfgang humiliates himself and then dose a remix to Soliert's welcome song. They do grow a kind of bond, a strange bond. Mozart thinks of Soliert as a best friend, while Soliert hates Mozart but is probably his #1 fan. And through Mozart's childish behavior Soliert plots to kill him witch leads to a rather strange ending.
The Setting was in one of the most beautiful cities in Europe, Vienna. The settings and scenery were more than accurate; the Theater's backdrops were lacking the certain amount of details you would expect them to lack. The town looked like Vienna, probably was, and the street scenes made it look like it was the renaissance.
Another thing about the street scenes were the costumes. All the extras had adequate costumes. The main charter's costumes were slightly overdone, but still pretty good.
As for the casting and acting, it was astounding. I love the fact "Beatlejuice" played the king and the casting for Mozart, I always pictured him to look like that. And for the Acting, it blew my mind how well Mrs. Mozart did the background actions like when she sneaks some more truffles from Soliert, which was probably the funniest thing in the film.
As for the music, well edited into the film. It was smart to overlay the music they talked about, this movie was about Mozart! It definitely made the movie better.
Overall the movie was grate, I fell anyone interested in music would like the movie and that's who I would recommend this movie to. That's who I fell this movie is a nine out of ten, not everyone would like it, but its still wonderfully done.

Summary: Amadeus is pure emotion.
Review: What can one do to sum this movie up in words? There are few films that equal the power of Amadeus in the entire history of cinema, and i dare type that this film is one of the * GREATEST * American films ever made. That's a big boast, i know, but i am more than convinced that is the truth. I remember seeing Amadeus several times in my early childhood { 6 - 8 years old }, and i remember how much of an effect it had on me back then, but of course i was only an impressionable child, right? Well, i finally did purchase this DVD several months ago { Half-heartedly }, and i wasn't immediately impressed with it. I suppose that's the result of nolonger being innocent. ^_^ However, as time has gone by, and as I've watched this movie over and over again, Amadeus has nestled its way into my very being; just the thought of this film's soundtrack { Definitely the best rendition of Mozart available } brings me to tears; not a time goes by that that i don't watch this film and cry, almost uncontrollably. Everything that you've heard is true - the actors, sets, dialogue and direction of this film are simply stunning, but it is the music that will pierce you. If you aren't fond of Classical, buy this movie and revel within the intoxicating genius that is Mozart. You will never hear music the same way again... that is a promise.

Summary: Great movie
Review: I bought this movie without ever seeing it before and I love it. I don't know which parts are exactly true or not, but it was entertaining. Mozart being portraid as a whiny brat with a goofy laugh was hilarious. The thing I didn't like was having to flip over the disk, it interrupted the flow of the movie.
I see why this move won an oscar. It is enjoyable...whether you belive the story or not.

Summary: Great movie, annoying DVD
Review: This is one of my favorite movies ever, but the reason I gave it 3 stars is because of the DVD format. You have to flip the DVD over in the middle of the film, which is a huge nuisance. I think the studios should re-do their single layer DVDs to make them Dual-layer. I have DVDs much longer than "Amadeus," and you can see those movies on one side of the disc! Word of warning: whenever you shop for DVDs, make sure it is "Dual-layer," not single. Single means that you'll have to get up and flip the disc mid-movie. Review: Im taking serious thoughts to vote this film as the best film ever.....No im not someone who is watching a film once in a while...im studying in cinema critics...and ive already seen 438 films only in cinema theaters...so i guess my opinion can be rather helpfull for u people who r wondering rather this film worths it or not!

Review: It's one of the "Classics" but not really noted as one. Tom Hulce did not get the recommendation that he deserved. Although F. Murray Abraham did an excellent job in this movie, so did Tom as "Mozart." He is so good in this role that once you see the movie.......... you never forget how truly bleak his life was. Unfortunately, he wasn't recognized! This movie will take you back to the beginning of classical music and help you understand just how important it was and IS to our culture today!

Summary: Great film - one to watch again and again
Review: I had the great pleasure of seeing Amadeus in its opening week in a 70mm print with six tracks of surround-sound. The clarity and scope of Miroslav Ondricek's cinematography was breathtaking - but then, so was everything else about this film. I would go on to see it four more times in theaters (in 70mm and 35mm prints of varying quality), and countless times on video tape, laserdisc, and now DVD.Amadeus is a "fantasia" on the life of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (Tom Hulce) that centers on the age-old rumor that he was murdered by a jealous rival, composer Antonio Salieri (F. Murray Abraham). Don't let its subject matter fool you - Amadeus is thoroughly contemporary filmmaking at its best. And the DVD, despite the many complaints, serves it well. Yes, it is a "flipper" (somewhat annoying), and yes, it lacks commentary tracks, deleted material, or a "behind-the-scenes" documentary. But what more can be added to the staggering accomplishment of the film itself? Much can be said about the performances, the writing, the music, Dick Smith's extraordinary old-age make-up, Milos Forman's direction, the costumes, etc. In fact, Amadeus is a virtual catalog of "best practices" in each category. But to put the brilliance of Amadeus into words is to diminish it; like trying to convey the qualities of a Mozart opera by talking endlessly about the melodies, harmonies, and libretto. To put it simply, no amount of description can do justice to the total effect. I have seen Amadeus literally more times than I can recall. It is to me like a favorite song or poem; I never tire of it. Consider how this film towers over its own makers: aside from Amadeus, what else can you remember about the careers of F. Murray Abraham, Tom Hulce, Elizabeth Berridge, Simon Callow, or Christine Ebersole? Or any of the other artists, in front of or behind the camera, who helped to put it on screen? As gifted as they are, no other project has fit them so perfectly. Amadeus took on a life of its own, symbiotically fed off their unique talents and, in return, gave them each their most perfect expression. It is as though each artist was born specifically to contribute his or her unique vision to this film. If there is one thing that is consistently under-appreciated about Amadeus, though, it is its editing. While it does not break new ground, or even draw attention its own technique (like Eisentsein's Battleship Potempkin, for example), Amadeus nonetheless demonstrates that there is no more powerful a cinematic device than a perfectly executed cut from one shot to another.

Summary: ONE OF THE GREATEST MOVIES EVER!
Review: Despite some 172 reviews of this masterpiece, I still feel that I have to add mine in order to legitimize myself. So great is the quality of this movie that it hardly seems possible that I first viewed it back in 1984. Amadeus is still fresh in my mind and likely to remain so forever. This is a testament to it's enduring greatness. The movie concerns two composers, Mozart (the greatest composer who ever lived, the "musical Christ", as Tchaikovsky called him) and Salieri (a relative nobody). Alright, we know that Salieri was not responsible for Mozart's death in history, but the movie isn't total fiction either. Many of the people were real and some of the events portrayed in the movie actually did happen. The genious behind this movie is the way the author combined fact and fiction into one hellava entertaining story. Is the movie long? Yes, but you are so caught up in the story that the time flys by. Amadeus won 8 oscars and each was justified, believe me! Did I mention the scenery, costumes, and....oh yes, the sublime music? OUTSTANDING in every sense. You don't even have to like classical music to be wowed by Amadeus, but chances are that after you see Amadeus you'll be buying Mozart's music like crazy. Don't believe me?....buy this DVD or VHS and find out!!! There should be a 10 star rating available for this one.
