Summary: She's So Lovely
Review: I didn't like this movie. I watch it and the very next day I found myself thinking about how that movie ended and how it bothered me. I will never watch this movie again and I will let my friends and family know. For someone to actually leave their life behind, a wonderful family, and children for a crazy person who can't even stable himself out is pathetic. I just don't like the fact that she pick a messed up person to replace probably the best 4 people in her life. They should have ended it differently and maybe then I would like it, but for a moive to bother me after a night of viewing, I wished that I would have never stayed up to watch it.

Summary: Worst Movie Ever made
Review: I must admit that I am stunned by the amount of positive feedback there has been to this film. It was not in the least bit entertaining, and was quite possibly one of the 5 worst movies I have ever seen.

The acting was not bad, but the script was terrible. The characters are uniformly unsympathetic, which left me totally ambivalent towards their unfalteringly stupid choices. This film follows the basic theme of "you can take a girl out of the slum, but you cannot take the slum out of the girl." Unlike other similarly themed films, however, this one is not funny, not romanic, not pretty, and not worth renting for a dollar.

The sets are unattractive. The dialog is disjointed and boring. There is, in all seriousness, not one single good thing I can think of to say about this film.

Please, if you are seriously considering purchasing this title, RENT IT FIRST. Better to waste a little money than a lot. I hope I have helped some of you avoid repeating my mistake.

Summary: Sean Penn's best work
Review: I wasn't terribly impressed with Sean Penn's work with titles like Dead Man walking, but he is excellent in this film and proves he is a serious and talented actor. If character development is important in a film, this is the right movie for you. Opening up Penn's shell is mysterious and wonderful

Summary: well acted, enormous let down of an ending
Review: I wathed this movie i TV just recently, who cares about the swearing being taken out and what not. The movie had very good acting one of the main reasons why i kept watching it although i can't stand seeing Sean Pen drama movies. I found his rehabilitation beliveable although he acted like same-old in a couple parts.

My major gripe with the movie as with many of the movies i've watched late night, is that the ending left me thinking, "WTF? why did i watch this?" because the movie made utterly no sense, i mean no completely stable woman in their right mind would do this because its probably the most selfish thing they could have done. She must've been a little off as well, maybe thats why they made a great couple. Plus the fact that the husband (john travolta) seems to be the only normal person in that whole part of the movie, and the sense i got from the other people involved, sean pen and the wife (i forget her name) seem to think that the husbands reactions are strange. MAKES NO FREAKING SENSE!

i swear if i see another well acted movie that ends like crap, I will lose faith in the movie making industry. Maybe this is why i never really heard of any good movies in the 90's (besides popular ones), cause all their endings sucked.

Summary: They Put The Mad In 'Madly In Love'
Review: I've read interviews with Sean Penn wherin he laments the fact that this film was overlooked. But somehow I believe that they WANT this film to be 'underground'. Otherwise, how could they do such a poor job marketing it?

For starters, the title is completely misleading. "She's So Lovely" absolutely screams Romantic Chick Flick but this movie couldn't be further from that. Mabey the script's original title, "She's De Lovely," would have seemed clever once you'd seen the film, but they went with "She's So Lovely," which, frankly, (...). It makes no sense, has absolutely no relevance and misrepresents the movie.

Huge marketing error #2 is the packaging. One word: Horrible. My copy says "Demo Tape - Box Art May Vary", and I said to my friend "God, I sure hope so!". However, I see they stuck with the exact same blurry photos of the stars with a brown line over their faces...it looks like a preliminary effort for the screener box they never got around to finishing up.

I think all that served to keep a great film underground! Penn won Best Actor at Cannes for his roll. This intense character study reminded me of 'Barfly' in its unflinching look at alcoholism. We get a glimpse of the surreal worldview of someone who would smash the top off a wine bottle on the curb and chug the entire thing from the jagged edge. Like 'Barfly', this film examines these lives for their normalcy, pointing out how these motives exist in us all. The film understands that the true weirdness that exists on skid row is the same weirdness that exists in suburbia; only the surroundings have changed.

One reviewer felt "that out-of-control, crazed, alcoholic, destructive criminals and deadbeats are not suitable subjects for syrupy, violin-playing comedic romances." I demand to know why they are not suitable? These are universal themes. Certainly these characters are alcoholic and they do seem touched with madness. None of them is exactly likeable. So the audience is able to watch the characters' actions from a somewhat detached perspective. This film is not 'syrupy' at all.

In fact it's brutal in it's bluntness. Travolta's character tells his 9 year old daughter to 'Shut up and drink your beer'. Many things in this movie seem shocking simply thru their easy acceptance as if they were just part of another bad day. 'Nobody brought a piece-it's not that kind of an evening.' is a surprising (and funny) response to having a gun pulled on you, but the little girl's reaction is even more revealing. Even the romance is blunt. Being 'madly in love' is well depicted by Sean Penn and Robin Wright. But unthinkable choices are made in the name of love. And isn't true love just another form of madness?

Review: I've seen this film twice in Ottawa,Canada, summer `97. It made me cry my tears.. At first, they looked very crazy or something but they were so lovely actually. extraordinary but absolutely gorgeous!

Summary: Disparity of response
Review: If you read the various reviews of this movie, you will find an amazing array of responses to it. I think this is largely a function of the horrid marketing of this movie. When my friend recmmended that I watch it, I did a once-over of its packaging and decided I wasn't interested. He insisted, and so I reluctantly agreed to watch it. Despite it's packaging, this is not a sentimental romantic comedy in the "Pretty Woman" or "Look Who's Talking" vein. If this is the sort of movie you like, you should move on and not waste your time with this.

The movie is divided into two parts. The first focuses on the troubled relationship of derelict couple Eddie and Moe (played by real-life spouses Sean and Robin Wright Penn). Penn's character is dissolute, and puts Moe in the bad position of being vulnerable to the sleazy advances of a neighbor (played well by The Sopranos' James Gandolfini). When Eddie finds out what happens as a result, he becomes steadily unhinged. His performance in a barroom scene is one of the most convincing portrayals of drunken progressive madness I have seen on film.

The second part of the film benefits mainly from the introduction of John Travolta in a role that mercifully pulls back from stretching his limited acting range. This IS the Travolta we guiltily derived pleasure from before he decided he was a mega-action flick star. What follows is a somewhat unlikely but morally and emotionally challenged dilemma for Moe (Robin Penn Wright). While viewers who tend to view life in rather black-and-white terms will be horrified by this portion of the movie, open-minded viewers will have the opportunity to analyze the various components of the ensuing relationships and positions of the players. It is troublesome and problematic and so avoids easy answers or judgements. What's great about the film, unlike other indie films that revel in their dispassion, is that it is not afraid to allow you to feel for these characters deeply, despite their many flaws. The performances are great, and the movie stands up to repeated viewings, so I highly recommend the film. Besides, it's probably your only opportunity to find out how to make a "Siberian Mist".

Summary: Penn,Wright & Travolta meet the Cassavetes.
Review: It took me a couple of viewings before I realised what a good film this is. It's satisfying in so many ways. The theme is love of course, but don't let that put you off. It's the kind of intense soul-mate love, Cassevetes' style. Nick Cassevetes does a nice job & very stylish too. The great thing about this movie is the performances. Sean Penn is outstanding,as usual,& Robin Wright pulls off her best performance as Sean's wife~(deja vu). Travolta is Travolta, which is fine by me & a comfortable role for him for a change.

Summary: Only Sean Penn acting is great
Review: Maybe the best Sean Penn's perfomance ( he is my gavorite actor with Robert De Niro ), but i didin`t like the movie, because i cannot understand how a woman ( Robin Wright ) can walk away from her two daughters, in order to escape with Penn's character. Travolta gives a simple perfomance as the new husband.
