Summary: Overrated Token Gay Sub-Plot
Review: A very disappointing movie. The main character, played by Christina Ricci, displays foul behavior which seems so contrived, I am inclined to blame the Director instead of the actor.

An otherwise interesting plot really loses all appeal after the first 30 minutes of the film.

Summary: Black humor at its...best?...worst?
Review: This movie requires a decided dose of disbelief and humor. Viewed from a purely real angle, the "Opposite of Sex" may seem amazingly cruel. Viewed as pure black comedy, it's very successful at poking zingers at just about anything you may hold dear. Christina Ricci plays a very convincingly mean spirited little b***h bent on getting exactly what she wants, as if life owed her a huge favor. Lisa Kudrow is incredibly anal and delightful. Despite all, it's a clever analysis of how tortuous modern relationships can get. Lyle Lovett seems a bit miscast at times. If you're going to see this, be warned.

Summary: Great movie despite no explosions or computer effects!
Review: The Opposite of Sex is an entirely entertaining movie. Christina Ricci's character is such trash that you squirm in your seat hating her! Lisa Kudrow (of TV's "Friend's" fame) turns in a good performance that is (thankfully) unlike her TV character. If you don't care that it wasn't a summer blockbuster, but rather just a small film making good on its promise to entertain ... see this movie!

Summary: Darkly comic
Review: Never boring. It's a fun and twisted ride throughout the film. All the actors did a fine job here.

Summary: An Open letter to Lyle Lovett
Review: Dear Lyle,You are, without question, one of the single greatest songwriters in music today. I have each of you albums, and buy your new ones the day of release. However, a word about your movie career. While I thought you were hysterical in "The Player" ("gaba gaba, one of us" indeed!) and I appreciate your desire to steer clear of standard Hollywood fare, (Julia Roberts not withstanding) you must understand something. Just because a project is considered "independent" of Hollywood does not, in and of itself, make it worthwhile.A key tip off would be the script.Take "The Opposite of Sex" for example. Maybe someone told you Christina Ricci was going to be in this one. Sure. That would be a very tempting movie to want to make. Christina is one of the most exciting young talents in movies today. But again Lyle, the script. Did you not read it first? What I'm getting at here Lyle, is that "The Opposite of Sex" was a bad movie. Really bad. The script was ludicrous, and the move was quite painful to sit through. I'm not really sure why Christina was attracted to this project either. So, in the future Lyle, please take the time to read the scripts you are submitted. Be patient. Eventually a decent one will come your way (remember "The Player") but until it does, keep those great songs coming.Sincerely,A fan

Summary: Opposite of sex is a boring film
Review: I think the only thing I liked about this film is the cast. Christina Ricci is very good in her character, she knows how to do it and she can be sexy if she wants to. Lyle Lovett is fine too, but not as Christina. The story isn't much interesting, and it has to end a lot before it does, because it turns very long. It's about a girl (Ricci) who falls in love with her gay brother's boyfriend, and the same happens to him, but the story is like a chewing gum: it comes, goes, and turns around again. Don't lose two hours of your life watching it.

Summary: A refreshing look at relationships
Review: What better way to examine relationships than through the eyes of someone who really doesn't have them? A trashy young girl gets into a load of trouble and finds that perhaps there is value in relationships afterall. If you liked "Get Shorty" and "Pulp Fiction" you will probably like this.

Summary: Crude, obnoxious and downright hysterical
Review: While not for all taste and sensibilities, The Opposite of Sex will indoubtedly offend a whole lot of people and at the same time make others snicker unabashedly at just how ridiculous life can be at times. The story centers around Deede, played to the hilt by Christina Ricci, who runs away from home to live with her gay brother, Martin Donovan, and his companion. What transpires is a series of comic antics that end up ruining her brothers teaching career, his partnership and almost his sanity. Lisa Kudrow lends a very comedic hand as the sister to the brothers late dear departed. While much of the film is mean-spirited, it is never the less entertaining to watch. Christina Ricci's last film of 1998 proves she is a contender to watch out for.

Summary: Get this movie!
Review: It's not every day that a movie can touch just about every emotion, and do it comically. If you're gay or straight, you will enjoy this movie. And as the lead character says in the beginning of the film, just keep an open mind.

Summary: One of the worst Cristina Ricci movies of all time.
Review: This movie was one of the most boring I have ever seen and it had some of the worst acting.
