Summary: The best slap in the face comedy of the 90's, very raw!!!!
Review: This movie has by far the best performances of the year. Christina Ricci is at her best and Lisa Kudrow takes a 180 degree spin from her stereotype airhead character on Friends and becomes this love scorned spinster. The movie has many themes and sub plots. It is hard to follow but with great attention the movie becomes extremely entertaining. It may not appeal to all audiences, but regardless it is a must see. This definately deserves more than Five Stars in my book.

Summary: Great movie
Review: This movie's great! My only complaint is that Lisa Kudrow's hilarious lines are few and far between. She's so great; I hope she gets bigger parts in future movies. Oh, yeah, and Christina Ricci's great too.

Summary: The smartest comedy of 1998!!
Review: Though not the funniest movie of 1998 (that goes to "There's Something About Mary"), this was definitely the smartest comedy of the year. Be prepared for a like/hate relationship with the lead character (Christina Ricci) as she manipulates you and everyone in the film. Whether poking fun at death scenes or voiceovers or the sympathy music in movies designed to tug at our hearts, she is a breath of fresh air in an industry full of stale, predictable characters.

Despite the fact that she seems to be a sexhound who can't appreciate love, this movie is also about real love. When Lyle Lovett says to Lisa Kudrow that "love is when you are the first thing your partner sees when he/she walks into a crowded room" (paraphrased), you realize that this not just a bitter comedy but one that also embraces true love over sex every time.

It's true that this movie isn't for everyone; but if you're willing to laugh at the crazy misfortunes that sex can bring, then this movie will have you laughing again and again. Enjoy!

Summary: The Opposite of Good Taste
Review: Do not get me wrong, I think that Christina Ricci is a great actress. But this movie, it s*cked. The whole point of it was for the main character to realize love's true worth? Give me a break! The beginning was going so tasty. But it got drab and stupid after Ricci and the once gay, now heterosexual, ex-lover of her step bro, run away. This guy had to be the dumbest person I have ever seen in movie history. Even Forest has a leg up on this guy. Then at the end he finally realizes that he's still gay!! Duh! This movie was given way too many props. Please save yourself from disappointment, and regret.

Summary: Ricci's perfectly irreverent and Roos' scribe sparkles
Review: Although it did not receive a single Oscar nomination, "The Opposite of Sex" will be the kind of movie that survives long after this year's statues have been handed out. Christina Ricci, whose become the new Drew Barrymore bad girl teen of Hollywood lays it on thick as DeeDee Truitt, an atypical teen who uses sex as her weapon that is backed by an unbreakable stride, a completely selfish candor and lack of political correctness usually reserved for the most hardcore of cynics. Narrating in the beginning, she states "I don't have a heart of gold, and I don't grow one later, okay? But relax. There's other people a lot nicer coming up...we call them losers." The listless DeeDee, who hates her world, starts over when she shows up at the doorstep of Bill (Martin Donovan, exceptionally adept at the empathy), her gay half-brother in Indiana who takes her in despite apprehension. Not more than a couple of weeks go by before she hightails it out of the house, and with Bill's boyfriend, Matt (Ivan Sergei), in tow. The heartbroken Bill then goes in search of the duo along with Lucia (Lisa Kudrow), who hates DeeDee and loves Bill. Throw in further diatribe of Matt's all-talk-no-tough ex (Johnny Galecki) and the quirky Sheriff Carl Tippett (Lyle Lovett), and one has the makings of an independent classic. Discourse runs amok between these individuals, and with credit going to writer/director Don Roos, every person shines in their assorted role, no matter how big or small. Roos, making his debut behind the camera, gives a distinct edge to both the characterizations and the dialogue spark that makes everything go up like a four-alarm fire. Sympathy's hard to come by in this black comedy, because DeeDee's candid ways make one think twice before getting emotionally involved. The bonuses on the DVD include five deleted scenes, that amount to about twelve minutes' worth of footage, as well as an audio commentary by Roos, producer Michael Besman and editor David Codron, who pound themselves too hard on their own work. The tagline says it all for this unforgettable flick: "You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll be offended." And it's worth it.

Summary: A waste of two hours!
Review: This movie by far is the worst I have seen in a long time. i dont even know if I have seen one this bad. I had to literally make myself watch this movie, praying and hoping it would improve. Well, it didnt. I have been acting for 11 years, and I pick out little things in movies that bother me and should not be there. The way the actors acted they were reading a cold script. Christina Ricci has so much potential, and I hope she isnt getting into this habit of doing horrible movies such as The Opposite of Sex, Pecker, and an upcoming 200Cigarettes. I know from her movies in the past her acting has been a lot better. The one that comes to mind is Mermaids. She had a really nice part, and even as a young girl, played it wonderfully. Lisa Kurdow is anoher with great potential. I know that for a fact. Friends is a great, well thought out show And her perfonmance in Romy and Michelles high School Reunion was funny as can be. Putting these two beautiful women in such a horrible movie is awful. I cant even beleive they wanted to be in it. It was the worst movie I have ever seen, and I have seen a whole lot of movies, beleive me.

Summary: Hi-LAR-ious!
Review: If you don't take life and love too seriously--and aren't easily offended--this movie is a great romp. See it before you buy it; it's not for everyone.

Summary: This movie rocks!
Review: Hopefully enough other people will praise the plot of this movie; I want to praise the presentation. Finally, a movie that admits the limitations of first-person narration--and by doing so transcends them. From blatant foreshadowing to the emotional manipulation of sappy music, this movie pokes fun at every cinematic convention, enabling it to use them all effectively. It's a must-see for anyone who appreciates the meta-film.

Summary: Fun, Well Done and Totally Twisted!
Review: This movie was one of the best movies I have seen in a long time. It is definitely dark but not so dark that the viewer is turned off or offended.

It is the story of a misguided teen who leaves her home in the South and moves in with her gay half brother in Indiana and his partner. She manipulates her brother's lover into having an affair with her and announces she is pregnant with his child. Her brother and his female confidant set out to prove that "sis" is not the helpless victim she portrays and is indeed who "Rosemary's Baby" would have been had that been explored.

The acting by Kudrow,Ricci and Lovett was worth watching alone, especially Kudrow proving she can play a bitter, sexually repressed school marm just as well as a ditz. The fact that it was cleverly written and very funny grabs you from the first scene. Hopefully this film will get it's due at the usually "conservative/big name only counts/box office blockbuster" Academy Awards though I doubt it because Tom Hanks wasn't in it.

Summary: ricci is at her best
Review: this film is one of the best i've seen in a while. christina ricca outdoes herself in this one, portraying an insightful, yet cynical adolescent with the wits of a grown up. lisa kudrow is also wonderful- a delight and poised beyond the outlandish character on friends. with a tangled story like this, it is impossible to be bored while viewing this. what a creative and fun film. excellent.
