Summary: I love the movie but disappointed with DVD.
Review: I was excited and looking forward to watching Valley Girl on DVD as this is one of my favorite movies of all time. I was 14 when it was first released in 1983 and feel this movie is a part of the teenager in me. Unfortunately, I was disppointed with the DVD for the following reasons:
-Right before Julie and her friend, Stacy, leave to the party at Suzy's house, the song"Angst in My Pants" by Sparks is being played and the camera zooms slowly into the dancing crowd while the song is being played. In the DVD , they cut straight to the scene at the party where Julie is talking to Tommy so this part is cut off.......why?????
- The music in the party scene sounds low and distant in the background. I've seen this movie several times on tv,cable and video before and the music seemed more audible and enhanced.
-The song, "Who Can It Be Now" by Men at Work is missing. It was supposed to be played in the scene where Nicolas Cage is hiding in the shower tub waiting for Julie(Deborah Foreman) to go to the restroom so he can ask her out.
-Though I do like the interviews with the actors and director, Nicolas Cage, E.G. Daily, Martha Coolidge, etc.Where is Deborah Foreman?? She is the title character! I would have loved to see her interviewed.
These quips may sound miniscule to some but I wanted to feel that same nostalgia that I always have felt when watching Valley Girl and just didn't this time around.

Summary: Fer shurr, Fer shurr, She's a Valley Girl
Review: This film is nearly a piece of history now. The original poster for the movie was much better, but the film itself is so good. The classic tale of star crossed lovers--except Nic Cage's character has no parents in the movie [none that we met] and her parents don't mind that she is dating him.

But the story still rates and the detail from the time period is too classic not to see again! All those styles were once so cool and here they are again!

There are some side stories in the film which are definitely worth watching again--Skip, the boy who ends up with Suzy's mom!!!

The music from the film is still classic and let's just face it... the movie WORKS.

Review: I saw Valley girl back in the 80s when it aired on WHT (remember them? HBO's rival)
I was about 9
I saw it the other day for the first time in 20 years and had to ask these few questions:

Was it me or practically everyone at the party was wearing the color PINK...guys too!
Was it me or did EVERY other guy have on striped polo shirt with the collar flipped up like they were
the Fonz or something..it looked ridiculous!
Was it me or were the jeans the guys were wearing tighter than the girls...or to put it another way
all the guys minus Nicholas Cage and his pal had on "Nut Huggers"?!?
Was it me or was everyone (even the black folks)dancing like they had a "Load in the pants" or doing that typical 80s "white man dance" (the dance Eddie Murphy made fun of in "Raw")
And most of all Was it me or was everyone too old (say 28) to play 17 year olds????
Did Julie's mother look like her sister or what?
Did Julie's father look like Sonny Bono or what?
I felt they were "Over acting" in certain scenes, and sounded too much like they were "Reading their lines".
How STUPID is "Skip"? The guy could be walking into a crime scene and just barges in the house uninvited to hopefully get some "40 year old Nookie"...but ends up making it with Suzy?
The thing that MADE me say that this movie was "Alright" was the music soundtrack playing in the back, (my favorite song was "Don't put another dime in the juke box...I actually remember that video!)and my favorite line the big "EFFF UUUUU!!" he gave them as he got kicked out of the party. the movie does have some lapses and did drag a bit but it's still no doubt a classic 80s teen movie, eg. good looking people, average storyline, great soundtrack, cheap laughs.

Summary: Great Movie, except for the sound transfer by MGM!!!
Review: This movie is a GREAT 80's film. I saw it on HBO the other week, and went and ordered the film. As for MGM, they usually transfer films from the 80s great. They transfered the picture great again with valley girl, HOWEVER, whoever remastered the music in Dolby 5.1 Surround put the music to low, and ruined the way the movie was meant to be shown. However, if u goto Features and change the Sound to English Mono, It plays normal and can watch the movie like it was meant to be seen, to bad without stereo, but hey, sometimes u cant always have what u want. If it wasnt for the sound the movie would get 5 stars. It got 2 just because of the sound transfer. Shame on you MGM! MGM should exchange these discs with fixed copies, like Universal is doing with Back to the Future(WIDESCREEN).

Summary: Like Totally Cool!!!
Review: This movie is like totally like awesome man I just think that it is the raddest movie of the 1980's and it stars some really cool people like E.G. Daly, Deborah Foreman as "Julie" like one of the coolest chicks that I have ever seen act the coolest the way that she like wore her shirts they were like the coolest shirts... And the cool shades they wore like the coolest shades that I have ever seen like in my whole life !!!! The hairstyles in this movie was very rad too!!!!

Getting down to business this is a cool movie I really did enjoy it . This movie is about some cool teenagers a group of friends that hang together it is about Julie going with this guy named Tommy and she decides that she doesn't like him anymore and then starts to date Nick Cage and Tommy gets jealous and him and Nick Cage have a fight this is a great movie and I would truly reccommend anyone to buy this movie and both soundtracks!!!!

Summary: Where'd all the music go? horrid mix on the DVD
Review: This is a classic for me(for what it is anyway) but this is a horrible version of it. They really changed the feel of the movie by putting the music so very low in the mix. The music is a very important part of this movie, and now all impact it had is lost. It's sad that they would butcher this movie like that.

Summary: Totally Cool
Review: Valley Girl was a 1980's version of Romeo & Juliet that pits the Valley versus Hollywood. Julie (Deborah Foreman) is the ultimate Val Girl who breaks up with her boyfriend Tommy (Michael Bowen). While at the beach with her friends, she spots a cute guy, Randy (Nicolas Cage), a punk from Hollywood who crashes her friend's party. Randy and Julie talk and seeing this Tommy gets jealous. Randy and Tommy get into a fight and Randy is tossed out. He sneaks back in through the bathroom window and hides in the shower until Julie comes in. He asks to leave the party and then takes her to Hollywood and his world. The two fall in love, but Julie is pressured by her friends to break up with Randy and get back with Tommy as Randy doesn't fit into their world. Julie gives in to her friends and breaks up with Randy. Finally at the Valley High Junior Prom, Randy again crashes the proceedings, beats up Tommy and takes Julie back. The film was shot on a shoestring budget by a then unknown director Martha Coolidge and featured a virtually unknown cast including Mr. Cage who of course went on to superstardom and an Academy Award. The rest of the cast is enjoyable including Ms. Foreman who is the quintessential So Cal teenager of the early 80's, Heidi Holicker, Elizabeth Daily & Michelle Meyrick are fun as her Val Gal best friends, Cameron Dye is steady as Randy's sidekick Fred, Lee Purcell is lusty as a Mrs. Robinsonesque mother and Colleen Camp and Frederic Forrest are great as Julie's hippie parents. Another major component of the film was its soundtrack that drives the film. Featuring new wave artists like The Plimsouls "A Million Miles Away", Josie Cotton's "Johnny Are You Queer?" and most importantly Modern English's "I Melt With You", it gave the film an anthmatic quality. Valley Girl is perfect snapshot of an era from which was spawned.

Summary: Valley Girl on DVD, all is right with the world.
Review: I've been waiting for years now for this 1982 cult classic to be released in DVD format and now it is here. Now go get it! Those who know the film will agree, this thoroughly entertaining "Romeo and Julie" story is fun from beginning to end and will transport you to a beautiful,1980's pink and aqua world of mallrats, hollywood punkers and mean ... jocks. Just a couple of complaints though. During the scene where Randy waits for Julie in the shower stall during the party, what happened to Men At Work's "Who Can it Be Now?" Also very glaringly absent from the DVD's 20 year look back on the film is Deborah Foreman. ...

Summary: Lots of Cool Extras
Review: "Valley Girl" is one of my all time favorite movies and it has now come to DVD. This DVD edition of "Valley Girl" is worth the wait. The film includes a lot of neat extras like a featurette named "Valley Girl-20 Years Later." The featurette includes new video commentary from all of the cast members-except the star Deborah Foreman who is missing. In addition to the featurette, the DVD also includes 80's trivia, a site down talk with the director and Nicholas Cage, and a segment about "The Music from Valley Girl." The film itself was restored well. This is a fun movie that will take you back to the 80's and your high school days. It is definetly something that you should add to your DVD collection.

Summary: Lots of memories
Review: If you liked the movie and likely you did or you wouldn't be buying or thinking about buying the DVD, then you will like the 20th anniversary DVD. The interviews are great though it is interesting, almost comical, that Deborah Foreman couldn't take time out of her "busy schedule" to contribute to the DVD. Seems like if you only do one film in your career that anyone remembers you for (apologies to "My Chauffeur" fans) you would leap at the chance to discuss the movie with anyone that will listen. Cage is a great sport to contribute and he contributes a lot, as he genuinely has become a movie star and all that connotes. The option to watch the film with 80s trivia poping up on the screen is fun. All in all those who liked the movie will not be disappointed and should enjoy the DVD. The only let down is Foreman's failure to contribute.
