Summary: Endearing Despite its Faults
Review: As many reviewers here have already said, it seems a bit too unrealistic that a small town in Montana would be filled with straight people who love playing matchmakers for gays. The ending is also really not believable at all, and exactly copies the ending of Beautiful Thing. Having said that, I do feel as though the characters are very likeable and the film as a whole is quite well done. Worth at least one viewing; it definitely was touching and the performances are great.

Summary: Spectacular.
Review: It's not often that I'm taken by a romance film; I usually find them unrealistic and maudlin. But there was something very different about "Big Eden" that caused me to sit on the edge of my seat, hands clasped together, and await the final sequence of the film.

Perhaps it was the essence of family that the picture carried,or the portrayal of a town in which everyone has his niche. Perhaps the very quiet, subtle performance of Eric Schweig that so contrasts his other roles that I hardly recognized him. Or even the reminders of childhood love long lost but never forgotten -- but something about this film touched me.

This piece is the sort that I can watch parts of in the morning before work and still be smiling over hours later. The very best kind of feel-good movie. I think any person, whether gay or straight, can appreciate the message this film leaves behind when the credits roll.

Summary: Unappealing
Review: What you have is one very boring unappealing dumpy unattractive guy, accenton unattractive & boring, who seems to beliked by someone with all the passion ofa wooden indian. If that's what you'reinto, cool, but I like passion andfantasy. And maybe gay characters playedby actors who might be gay for a change. And not two old trouts...

Summary: a feel good movie
Review: I have seen this video several times. After I saw it by myself, I asked friends in to view it. It is definitely a fantasy, but the feel good part of the movie makes you feel good too. What is a movie for if it doesn't make you think or feel good.

Summary: There are so few good surprises, and this is one of them
Review: Realistic? No. Full of all the issues supposedly important in gay films? Uh-uh. Wonderful anyways? You bet. The town of Big Eden is like a little paradise. If the Garden of Eden was what Man was like before corruption, then Big Eden is what Man could be like without prejudice and hate. I think it's about time there started to be gay love stories that weren't any more complicated than straight love stories. Eric Schweig is my hero. His amazingly understated performance MADE this movie.

Summary: Northern Exposure meets Torch Song Trilogy!
Review: What a refreshing film! No gym dandies, no overt sexual scenes, just a fun and touching film that won't scare the straights out of the room! Set in a Northern Exposure-type town where anything and everyone is accepted on their merits alone, Big Eden is THE gay romantic-comedy-fantasy. An ensemble cast that pulls together beautifully and makes you believe that someday, gays and straights will be living together peacefully and pulling for each other faithfully. I don't want to give a moment of the film away, but do yourself a BIG favor and buy "Big Eden", you won't regret it!

Summary: Buy It Now!
Review: I loved this movie. I loved it so much I wrote to the screenwriter and told her so. This movie is about love and family. It is not about sex, it is about finding yourself when you least expect it and there is the one person who completes your life in the place you'd least expect. I loved that this was such a wonderful old-fashioned love story with great characters. I want to live in that town and have these people for my friends! Bravo to everyone connected to this film, it is fabulous!

Summary: Big Eden should exist in Montana or any U.S. state!
Review: I pulled this unknown video from a new release dvd display. Viewed last evening by a monogomous [non-traditional] couple and myself, husband/father of four, we were expecting to view an art film - "one of the most celebrated films of the year." It is rated pg-13. Big Eden includes Louise Fletcher amoung other well known and respected actors.
We three were held spellbound by the characters, their delema, and the heart each townsperson reveals as they try to respect a hometown reunion of two recently returned accomplished hometown adults, yet realize there is more to their own community and personal character development then they realized.
This is how small towns should react to romance when they are lucky enough to witness it happening amoungst it's eligable adults. Maybe it should be in school libraries for instructions on how to deal with homofobia and there would be fewer cases of Mathew Shepards on farm fences.
Definately a film to share with your children, your church youth education board and your school board.
The USA still remains the home of the free, the brave, right?

Summary: Why can I find a place like "Big Eden"?
Review: I love it! Please let me find you... if you walked around searching for something in woods, we cannot find you... please stay at home so that we can find you dear. Look around, you will find someone who love you dearly. Shows innocent/default love that stems from sharing life. We will find love when we will look for it near you ;)
