Summary: FROM BIG APPLE TO BIG SKY COUNTRY
Review: Henry Hart (Arye Gross), an openly gay man, returns from Manhattan into his closet back home in Big Eden, Montana after the grandfather who raised him has a stroke. Coincidentally, a week prior to this, Dean Stewart (Tim DeKay),the straight captain of the football team that he has loved for 20 years (and been through therapy over) returns to the same town with his two young sons and a different view of life than he had back in high school.

Has the world changed enough in the interim? Can they come out of the closet long enough to become a couple? And what isn't Pike Dexter (Eric Schweig) the Native American who owns the general store not telling the townsfolk who congregate there?

Sit back and enjoy a place where it's the content of your character and not your sexual orientation that determines peoples' opinions. Laugh as the clueless hero can't see or admit what everyone else has already figured out.

Featuring a strong supporting cast including Academy Award winner Louise Fletcher and TV/Film regular George Coe, this is a good looking, non-condescending gay comedy which manages to keep it's point of view from becoming preachy. The ending is a bit pat, yet no less satisfying for it. Thoroughly enjoyable.

Summary: Simply Amazing
Review: This has to be one of the most amazing movies that I have seen in a long time. It deals with subject matter that transcends the gay/straight lines. The performances are all first-rate and heartfelt. This movie gave me faith in people again and some glimmer of hope for the future of movie making. An amazing film that speaks from the heart with a simple story of coming home.

Summary: A Big success!
Review: I wasn't sure what to expect from this film but I've like Arye Gross since he played Adam, the roommate and good friend of Ellen DeGeneres in her self named sitcom. I went with a friend to catch this movie and we both said the same thing leaving the cinema----gotta have that on dvd! Bascially, this story is an old fashioned romance about a young man that returns to his home town to deal with a family matter and comes face to face with the man he loved for years but without reciprocation. The town, with its kind and accepting people, is most definitely a fictional locale but that gives the film an almost fairy tale (no pun intended) like quality. The story is universal---a prodigal son returning, dealing with family and friends and eventually finding the love that he wants, though not necessarily from who he expects. If you like a good romance this is a great pic. Perfect to curl up with that special someone and watch. The dvd also includes extras such as deleted scenes, bonus footage and even recipes from the film. This is a great edition to any dvd collection.

Summary: Breath of Fresh Air
Review: Considering all of the other movies, of this genre, out there, this one is definitely a breath of fresh air. Although the story seems to run like a fairy tale, there are heartfelt characters in this story and it gives a prime example of an environment where everyone truly cares for one another despite their differences. In some ways, it gives one hope that there will come a time when we are all accepted no matter what race/religion/sexual orientation. I don't see that happening right away, but the things worth having are usually hard to obtain. A very nice Story. 5 Stars

Summary: Very Good Movie!
Review: I really enjoyed this movie. Very well acted and great story that reminded me of Northern Exposure meets I Think I Do. Very sweet and cute! Arye Gross is very good and the supporting cast is awesome. A keeper.

Summary: Why can't the world be like Big Eden?
Review: Okay, so it's not really a believable movie! But, for two hours, it transports us to a beautiful little town where being gay is as acceptable as Grandpa and Grandma sitting on the front porch watching the sunset. I loved this film - it is warm, funny, beautifully filmed and quirky. The cast is wonderful, especially Eric Schweig as Pike (I just want to give him a big hug!) A refreshing film and I can't wait to see what this director does next.

Summary: Eden on Earth
Review: It's been interesting to hear and read comments about this film, from fellow reviewers and friends. Some of them center on "unbelievable, unrealistic, no small town in Montana would ever act that way." But they miss an important point about this film. If our goal someday is to build a society that accepts all people for who they are, then we need to support those positive images on our movie screens as much as possible. Thomas Bezucha's vision provides us a beautiful fable and beautiful images in the film called "Big Eden".

"Big Eden" is about Henry Hart, struggling to find the important things in life, realizing those things are in the community that raised him as a child. Traveling back to Big Eden, Montana, to care for his ailing grandfather allows him to confront issues in his life that he spent many years running away from. Landing back home, surrounded by people that devotely love him, becomes emotionally overwhelming for him, and his struggle only intensifies. Throw in his best friend/unrequited love, and new potential love in Eric Schweig's incredible performance as Pike. As Henry falls deeper into Big Eden's web, he finds himself discovering answers, and even more questions.

Give Bezucha credit for a gutsy script. Here is a gay film that breaks many rules of "gay filmmaking": there is no sex, there is no 20 year old cute boy walking around shirtless, no club scene, no drugs, no homophobic country hicks in trucks ready to pounce at first light. He gives us straight and gay characters who believe and act as people first, who are allowed the intimate, complex lives we all should have. He gives us a town that celebrates all the good things in life: companion, love, honesty, compassion, without fear of labels. Mostly, he gives us a story, some incredible characters that we absolutely love, and sets it in some of the most beautiful scenery captured on film in recent years.

Three cheers for Big Eden, it's one step in the right direction.

Summary: Director's Commentary a Loss
Review: How could it not have occurred to Thomas Bezucha to lower the movie soundtrack so that we could hear the commentary track! It took great effort to hear what he had to say, as every unaccented syllable of every sentence could not be heard. Isn't anyone paying attention?
